***** Fair enough - you are right! I can be a bit snobbish about these things as someone who plays the viola and violin, but that's no excuse for condescension. I like your avatar, by the way!
flyforce16 Cool, a string player! I'm a saxophonist myself, although I do play electric bass and dabble in upright. I think the more impressive thing about this syncopation is that he was able to record those not only syncopated, but as 16th notes at that tempo. That would throw most people off. I'm interested to know how many takes that took.
Sometimes I wonder if the videos of him that we see are actually live caps of the song he's recording, or if he makes the audio tracks beforehand and records himself after strictly for theatrics. It's amazing either way, but if he honestly is able to maintain that sort of focus and perfection while making faces and playing with his cat, that's ridiculous. When the hell does he even breathe on some of these tracks??? Smooth is the man.
I can already tell you by the way his voice changes into smurf mode on the high pitches that he completely edited these tracks. As you do not hear any heavy breathing and other forms of noise from his cat, he completely edits it. I wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't sing just one part of it. This clip is only for show.
ShibbyDaisy Well, there is no doubt that a degree of post production goes into these mixes. Editing is a part of all professional music. I'm a little confused what you mean by "smurf mode," however. You're suggesting that he digitally altered the pitch of his voice or used autotune? There's probably a little compression and reverb, but I'm fairly certain that's just his actual falsetto. I'm not blowing my own horn here (as I'm nowhere NEAR as talented as him), but I'm capable of reaching most of those ranges in falsetto myself--they just wouldn't sound as pretty. I think you're cynically taking a little credit away from the man. Smooth, like any other artist out there, clearly uses some post-production editing tools, but to say he couldn't even "sing just one part of it" might be a bit ludicrous. Whether the videos are just for show or not, I would say with little equivocation--both as an artist and a someone who has produced music--that what we hear is a product of his own vocal chords.
frozenaorta Uhm what other word captures smurf... chipmunk! His voice goes into chipmunk mode. That's not possible when you sing normally. The only way to get it into chipmunk mode is to sing it lower and then try to pitch it higher. It basically means he cannot sing the actual piece, else he wouldn't have done so. He could've chosen to drop the song a little bit, but nope. The degree of post-production is so high, you cannot call it singing anymore. I even asked him several times just to sing one part live on his streams to convince myself that he has the talent. He has NEVER done so and simply ignored it. He didn't even bother to prove himself. We hear a product of very altered vocal chords; it's as real as Hatsune Miku.
ShibbyDaisy The "chipmunk" or "smurf" tone to which you're referring is know as falsetto--it's when a man uses the upper, pre-pubescent ranges of his vocal chords rather than his full voice. When someone is able to do it well, these amazing pitches you're hearing are perfectly achievable. Listen to some Frankie Valli or The Beach Boys for some early examples of singers making wonderful use of falsetto. As far as your "proof" that he isn't singing because he doesn't respond to your individual request to sing one part live--I don't even know how to address that. Of course he's not going to do that for you personally. That's absolutely absurd.
What you have created here is a masterpiece. A challenging peice that sounds like flawlessly executed. Thank you for all these videos. You are a gem beautiful man.
Well if you say so...just don't let Satan catch you watching Jesus' videos. He'd be mad as hell....get...get it? For Christ's sake, I'm terrible at this.
That's how most music was composed for the NES and Famicom, due to space left on the cart after graphics and programming. Makes it even more impressive I think
thatsimonpeter Yeh, I know, and I think so too. I cant imagine how hard is doing a song in those circunstances. Specially with the preassure, I mean, songs are really important, nobody is going to play if its a bad song or annoying and they're going to hear it all the time
UriclubTK Except it's a minute and a half long (with repeating bridge sections, granted, but they serve to let your ears rest). I don't find it repetitive at all and could listen to it for hours, personally! Zelda 1's dungeon music, on the other hand, though very moody I find incredibly grating after a while. It's only 20 seconds long and has constant fucking arpeggios... Luckily you don't spend too long in the dungeons.
SiGhast I dont know why I find it so repetitive, but yeah, you are right. Also, Zelda was always (almost always) fucking amazing with music, not like other unknown games (I'm looking at you, Exist.)
Fascinating how you separated that difficult arpeggio to perform select notes, then it synced back together! (a subtlety I hope everyone realizes is INSANEly awesome)
Ninja Gaiden 2 wasn't that hard to me. and the darksouls series is usually generally pretty challenging, but all i'm saying is that video games aren't as hard as they use to be. take Aladdin, a nightmare on elm street, friday the 13th, Lion King, and Jungle Book for example. Even the Ooze. Hell, even Dragon Warrior. Dragon Warrior you had to grind for hours, or you had your ass handed to you.
well grinding and being hard from bad controls (Friday) doesn't necessarily count as "challenge" all I'm saying is not all today's games are easy and I can even say that alot of old school games sent challenging either my opinion tho
At first I didnt believe that the part that the faces on the left and right did at :058 was him. It sounded artificial when mixed with everything else. Oh, and great work on this, Smooth.
Sometimes, when I hear Smooth, he goes so high he sounds like Elmo to me! XD Doesn't mean he's bad though, it,s just WOW! It's amazing how high he can go!
Quelqu'un peut dire aux zarb de la langue anglaise de se taire avec leur gammaire de grand-mère? (je m'étonne à la simple constatation que l'anglais est une langue.)
Hey Smooth another great Acapella (Charl obviously imposes some sort of supernatural singing magic upon you)! It would be great if you could do "Strike the Earth" (Plains of Passage)" From Shovel Knight. Thanks for reading. Tacos.
Am I the only person in the world that actually feels Zelda 2 is an enjoyable game to play? Heck, I downloaded it on 3ds so I can relax and power through it.
No, not at all. Zelda 2 is great. Most people hate on it for the dumbest of reasons. It's either too hard. Or it doesn't follow the same formula that all the other Zelda games follow which... by the way... was not yet established, so it couldn't have followed the trend that all other Zeldas followed, since they didn't exist yet.
No, 2 is probably in my top 5 LoZ games. The major reason people complain is because of its "difficulty", which was about on par with some other games of the time. Modern gamers have been pampered too much, that they don't even TRY anymore. It took me less than half an hour as a kid to figure out that attacking midair will kill 99% of all enemies - once you master that, the game is actually very easy.
I am watching your videos right now and Man you got MAD skills bro! Everything I've seen so far has been wonderful!! this one is one of my favorites because it reminds me of a time when things were simpler
I ordered this game online. It's the real original NES version, the only thing that could make it more authentic is if it was the Famicom version. I gotta say, it's really not as difficult as people say. Death Mountain is extremely easy, and the overworld and palaces are both usually easy to navigate. It only really got hard for me after I killed the River Devil (very late into the game), but that's predictable, since it's near the end. I still haven't managed to defeat the Thunderbird, but I'm workin' on it.
Death Mountain is only hard if you dont know where to go. The hardest part is the last section leading up to the great palace and then the great palace itself.. The other palaces are.. mostly straight forward
If you know what you are doing and where to go. Death mountain isnt hard.. but for someone playing it for the first time.. maybe a bit yes :P then Great Palace... with its " There is only 1 correct way. screw up and we send you back to the beginning" is kinda hard... Thunderbird.. not hard if you can dodge its fire.. Shadow Link... quite easy aswell... hardest palace for me... oh lets see.. Palace on the Sea or Hidden palace ( nr 5 and 6 )
it was difficult playing it as a kid but by today standards its not as hard now. The reason death mountain was kind of small was just the many nes limitations with memory and things. Imagine a zelda 2 today that could have enormous level sizes.
Well done. I spent many summer days playing this game. If memory serves Zelda 2 has a bunch of catchy beats that I would love to see you perform. Thanks for bringing back the good memories.
Me too. I speedrun it. *Shameless plug* lol I have a tutorial and a New game+ run at 43 mins on my channel. This video is amazing btw, I would like someone to make a hack with this as the music lol
I started playing it again yesterday, already at the final level but it's so ridiculously hard to beat! Short game but can drive you insane, and that's if you already know how to do everything! I pity the 7 year old that got this when it came out haha
My son is now 13 years old and he loves this song, I played it for him as 3 years old and the game. Its the same for me. Its like magic.. when its played for the first time its stuck in the head.
Is it weird that I've never beaten any Zelda game? for context I grew up with the Super Nintendo and N64 and my brothers beat all those Zelda games, and I've actually watched them both beat ALLTP, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask separately, more than once. As such growing up with it (at very developmental and impressionable times, in addition to them being such memorable and amazingly revolutionary games at the time) I still cite them as some of my favorite games and there's nothing that can beat the nostalgia of seeing Ocarina of Time played. But I still haven't actually gotten around to beating any myself. I got pretty close with LoZ, Halfway with ALLTP, I got like 60-70 percent done OOT and MM on multiple occasions but I never finished any of them. Actually the game I'd consider the spiritual successor to Ocarina of Time (Ookami), I've never ended up finishing either. I don't know if I should make the effort to go back and finish them or not.
Malkuth's Gaming Its tough, but its all very doable until the fucking Great Palace lol. Even the approach is a huge pain in the ass. Talk about walking on eggshells haha.
Each of your videos are quite impressive, and bring back nostalgic memories of bliss experienced with early gaming. I honestly don't know which is more captivating, your display of credible talent, or your display of adorable love and affection for that cat, lol. Either way, I genuinely appreciated these videos you've created.
Whoa, wait, hold on a sec! This amazing soundtrack is from _this_ Zelda game :O (So, emphasis on the _this_ so you dumbasses might understand I knew it came from _a_ Zelda game, just not which one.)
It's very different from the other Zelda games, and it's a lot more difficult than most if the Zelda games, but it is still a real fun game to play. Look for an emulator and the rom for this game and try it out.
This one is great!!! I mean you made it sound sooooo close to original, I'm really amazed!!! B.t.w., I love this game so much! This may be not the best Zelda game for me, but still... Brings back so much memories! First two Zelda games were the most memorizable ones for me. Because of all of this time spent trying to complete them (trying is the best word here, IMO), combined with such awesome music and classic Zelda atmosphere. Love it!

I know this would be hard to do, but an acapella of Gusty Garden Galaxy would be freaking amazing! ♪
Gusty Garden WHERE?!
YES that would be amazing
Good stuff!!
Wait, what is the Reaper doing under one of Jesus' videos?
Lol this dude makes AWSOME vids!
Well if you say so...just don't let Satan catch you watching Jesus' videos. He'd be mad as hell....get...get it?
For Christ's sake, I'm terrible at this.
Azrael AngelOfDeath Try again.
Better "cross" your fingers this time, I think I might be able to "nail" it pretty hard.
This is ridiculously unbelievable.
Everytime I hear this it brings back great memories of the gamecube and smash bros melee
Oh man!!! The nostalgia! Not of playing Link's Adventure, I mean playing Smash on Hyrule Castle :D
Thought exactly the same 😛
Ikr!!
You mean Hyrule Temple?
Yes, silly me :3
Oops didn't notice either
Love how you handled the fast runs in the middle... AWESOME.
This song is so repetitive, but I love it, is like the artist was like ''I can only do a 30 seconds long song so at least I should make it catchy
William Rowe You are welcome, Dan.
Now, let's get back to our normal rutine.

Oh, so this is where the temple theme is from lolo.
I always wondered...
Smash Bros killed our minds haha
smh kids
aragorn100000 More like opened them.

Fascinating how you separated that difficult arpeggio to perform select notes, then it synced back together! (a subtlety I hope everyone realizes is INSANEly awesome)
omg so goood
That game was fucking hard
I still have a copy. :). Games these days hold your hand way to much.
*cough* Ninja Gaiden 2, Dark Souls 3, Super Meat Boy *cough*
Save all the 1-up dolls for the very end, do NOT touch them before!
0:56 O.o woah... how in the... I love you smooth, you are awesome :D
Never played this game, though I definitely remember this song from both Super Smash Bros Melee as well as Brawl.
I LOVE IT :D
At first I didnt believe that the part that the faces on the left and right did at :058 was him. It sounded artificial when mixed with everything else. Oh, and great work on this, Smooth.
Smooth MccGrove can always put me in a good mood when I've had a bad day. Keep on mccgroovin'
Sometimes, when I hear Smooth, he goes so high he sounds like Elmo to me! XD Doesn't mean he's bad though, it,s just WOW! It's amazing how high he can go!
0:56 when the runs start
This is great, I just relived a classic done a-cappella style! Very Well Done!
0:19 Uhh... Why are you looking at me like that, top McGroove?

UndeadFlygon Are you alright
UndeadFlygon *you're
guys calm down, if you know anything about vega you'll know he's just kidding.
Hey Smooth another great Acapella (Charl obviously imposes some sort of supernatural singing magic upon you)! It would be great if you could do "Strike the Earth" (Plains of Passage)" From Shovel Knight. Thanks for reading. Tacos.
Or "Flying Machine." Thats my favorite
Josh Stream Exploditorium is my favorite
Mewtwo Rulz
Oooor.....

Dude you are fucking incredible. As vocal couch and 80s kid, you are now my new idol, thank you very much for being born.
I don't even know what to do in the beginning of the game, so I never beat it :P
If anyone on thinks this is difficult try getting 100% in xenoblade chronicles. It takes a while normally but 100% takes forever.
i find this game really good, super challenging and fun. i think people hates it because its not a traditional zelda.

I am watching your videos right now and Man you got MAD skills bro! Everything I've seen so far has been wonderful!! this one is one of my favorites because it reminds me of a time when things were simpler
Thanks to gamegrumps i cant stop going : do do do do do.....so stupid
me neither 😂
Lol brb I gotta go watch that to find out what you're talking about XD love Game Grumps but don't always have time to watch them.
Sqwivig oh, i think zelda 2 is one of thier best letsplay
Pooh Hardy Thanks to Brentalfloss, I can't stop singing the "lyrics" to this song.
He ruined it for me (in a good way).
Jérôme Levasseur very true, I loved it!
Getting to the great palace and navigating it is hard hard.
So says the guy who now has the internet at his finger tips to find out how to do everything in the game.
Well done. I spent many summer days playing this game. If memory serves Zelda 2 has a bunch of catchy beats that I would love to see you perform. Thanks for bringing back the good memories.
I loved that game
+raffi3o3 I loved and hated that game.
All I hear is 'Bah Bah bahs' and Brentalfloss's lyrics
Love the precision! Gave me goosebumps. Can't stop listening to it
Don't care what anyone says, but this is one of my favorite games in the series ;)
Me too. I speedrun it. *Shameless plug* lol I have a tutorial and a New game+ run at 43 mins on my channel. This video is amazing btw, I would like someone to make a hack with this as the music lol
Hardest Legend of Zelda, no contest.
I started playing it again yesterday, already at the final level but it's so ridiculously hard to beat! Short game but can drive you insane, and that's if you already know how to do everything! I pity the 7 year old that got this when it came out haha
oh yeah, easily the hardest in my opinion.
Every single song you cover that was in a game I played as a kid, sends chills down my spine. In a very good way. Simply masterful!
Put &t=55s at the end of the url to this video.
You're welcome.
Bless your soul, Patty.
Could you make Gaur Plains from Xenoblade?
BTW, Awesome work man!
If he did I would probably explode from all the awesome.
2017 here, he has has done Gaur Plain.
the future can be bright
My son is now 13 years old and he loves this song, I played it for him as 3 years old and the game. Its the same for me. Its like magic.. when its played for the first time its stuck in the head.
1:36 your cat
*sigh*
The only Zelda game I've never beat -_-
Even difficulty aside, I found it fairly boring as well
A comment.
jayvir6 Its okay, you should not count this as a real zelda game, even miyamoto said he disliked it...
Wow. That's no small feat to come by. Why is it the only one you've beaten?
I've been waiting so long for this...
Zelda 2 actually had some of the best music in the series.
nothing like a link to the past for me
I know alot of people hate on this game but skyward sword has some great sound tracks in it
same with wind waker
For me Twilight Princesses has the best music.
Skyward sword says hi.
Why isn't his voice a MIDI instrument yet?
If you play Starbound, it is.
You win the internet my friend
Jiehnav This is true.
Jiehnav Omg, I just saw the McGroove Mic. I need to get Starbound...
Smooth McGroove
Senpai...
I have been waiting for over a month for anything from you.
I wanna see Smooth "Break the Mold" and do an acappella with "Pas" rather then "Bas"
Proud to own the original loz 2 game and an nes and take good care of them
That makes two of us
+Fernando Almonte that makes 3, i also have the first game.
Me too TransmercuryFilms, In fact I have to Zelda 2 games, one gold and another gray.
Make that 4, I have an NES, and the first 2 Zelda games, gold cartridges
Gino McNemar
I also have an NES, and the first 2 Zelda games, gold cartridges. :D
Dude I can never get tired of this. Thanks Smooth! You're the man!
First Zelda game I played... first Zelda game I finished.. oh the nostalgia :D
Now... do a Great Temple Acapella xD
Me too man, such a great rendition aswell
The first on I played, but the last one I beat
Last? how can this be last? it was so easy?! / sarcasm off. ok fine I can understand why xD damn this game was hard
Malkuth's Gaming Its tough, but its all very doable until the fucking Great Palace lol. Even the approach is a huge pain in the ass. Talk about walking on eggshells haha.
Sakurai should use this version of the song in Smash Bros. 4 if Temple of Time stage is returning.
Or we could hack it into Project M with a .brstm :D
the first video i ever heard of you, now one of my favourite youtubers
Now I know the source of the Melee stage....
even though I played the GBA port of this it must have been before I started playing melee semi-competitively
This was what I was thinking haha
I'm tired of clicking the like button every time I watch one his videos. I need an auto-like option.
Each of your videos are quite impressive, and bring back nostalgic memories of bliss experienced with early gaming. I honestly don't know which is more captivating, your display of credible talent, or your display of adorable love and affection for that cat, lol. Either way, I genuinely appreciated these videos you've created.
My favorite Zelda game. ^_^
eu também gosto desse jogo ^_^
Whoa, wait, hold on a sec! This amazing soundtrack is from _this_ Zelda game :O
(So, emphasis on the _this_ so you dumbasses might understand I knew it came from _a_ Zelda game, just not which one.)
Kyler
I never played any Zelda game :I
I know this song from Super Smash Bros Melee.
***** And the level that has that song is zelda themed
It's very different from the other Zelda games, and it's a lot more difficult than most if the Zelda games, but it is still a real fun game to play. Look for an emulator and the rom for this game and try it out.
Sergio Payan
No shit. But how in the love of Charl was I supposed to know that it was from this Zelda game?
Dude every level has a song fro their game not w different one
This one is great!!! I mean you made it sound sooooo close to original, I'm really amazed!!!
B.t.w., I love this game so much! This may be not the best Zelda game for me, but still... Brings back so much memories! First two Zelda games were the most memorizable ones for me. Because of all of this time spent trying to complete them (trying is the best word here, IMO), combined with such awesome music and classic Zelda atmosphere. Love it!
Do the Gate of Steiner some time too :D I would love to hear how you do it!
infinite +1 for you
Zelda II The Adventure of Link Music: Palace Theme brought me here!
Now this brings back some memories... so many hours listening to this music. I can still hear the other sound effects in my head as the video plays.
I just discovered your channel.
