The beautiful and relaxing sounds of the African savannah

  • The sounds of nature and wildlife in the African savanna
Once the dawn chorus has started, birdsong does not stop easily. Even in the dry season, the savannas and woodlands of Eastern Zambia are full of very vocal birds. While some of the intra-African migratory species have not arrived yet, the local ones are doing their best to fill the soundscape with their calls.
The main difference between this morning ambience and what you can hear in the rainy season is the density of the insect chorus. Most insects that survive the many months of drought will try to use as little energy as possible. Only occasionally, and only around permanent sources of water, there will be the occasional cicada or cricket that keeps calling.
On my trip to Zambia in the dry season my focus was not birdsong, but I couldn't help recording some anyway. Enjoy and let me know if you find this as exciting as the lusher recordings from Zambia that I captured last year.
Recorded in South Luangwa NP with Sony PCM A10 and Clippy EM272 microphones. Enjoying the videos I upload on here? Feel free to support me by:

    so amazing.
it is exactly what i look for.
i do wish it was longer than an hour.
i live in Rio, in the city right now, and it has been the change i needed, to listen everyday to natures harmonies.
i forgot the peace, the absolute comfort, joy, and beauty she brings to me.
    amazing work.
    joy,
    jen

A powerful body of work you’ve got here, George. Super proud of your style of work. Just listened to you on BBC Radio Sussex. I’m a Brighton-based filmmaker, happy to know we live in the same city.

My pleasure! That is probably a warthog looking for tubers and fruit in the undergrowth.
