It took a moment for me to adjust my American ears but then it was fine. I understood everything you said. Though I am accustomed to hearing English spoken in many accents. Some might find subtitles useful.

You are so humble to ask us! I am American and could easily understand you. Just one tip...you used present verb tenses where you meant to speak in the past. For example, "is" should be "was" in many places. Great video and so informative!

I visited the Cathedral in summer of 1985. I was visiting my sister who was stationed in West Germany. (There was still two Germanies back then.) It was a fantastic experience and would recommend it for any American. This building has been around 500 years longer than America has. Best of luck at restoration. Commentaire formidable!

A very nice and precise report on the work being done. Thanks you very much. Notre Dame restauration / repair is a huge work with uncertainties but targeted for a partial re-opening to public of Notre Dame late December 2024. At that date, there will still will be outside work on-going and no public visits in the towers yet.
The key restauration axis is to keep the cathedral unchanged both for its aspect but also for its structure. Exat same stone type, exact same shapes, mortar like it was done at its construction on the 12th century, exact same spire as it was designed by Violet-le-Duc on the 19th century.

Unfortunately, the most likely time for an old building to catch fire is during renovation because of all the power tools, wires strewn about, the general chaos. But I remember it was announced that it was definitely not sabotage way too quick for them to know that. (I'm not sure by who at this point, if it was coming from French authorities is just someone in the media declaring it so). Despite my initial reaction being it was just another case of accidental fire during renovation, and I still think that's most likely, the kneejerk, "It wasn't sabotage!" actually made me suspicious.

If I were to rate your speaking ability based on the criteria that I use in my job, I would say that you are 85%-89% fluent. If you implement the suggestions made by viewers, you could easily bump your speaking ability to 90%-95% fluency in a very short period of time!

The fire at Notre Dame happened when a devastating fire took a beloved building from my community. It wasn't half as old as the cathedral, but it was built by the original settlers of the area. All that was left of it was just the outer shell of walls. But, with carefully planned and meticulously executed work, it has risen like a phoenix from the ashes.
I'm glad to see how the restoration of Notre Dame is coming as it's also rising from ashes.
Old buildings can be quite beautiful.

At least you have a more pressing deadline, the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna is considerably smaller and still took about 20 years to restore (at least restore the stones because of the limestone having turned black in the course of the centuries due to environmental pollution) lately (they aren't exactly finished yet)
(I mean, we obviously had to do a lot of restoration work after WWII, but that was mainly about the bell tower
