A huge amount of kudos for your ingenuity in creating such a useful and functional cost effective mini watercolor paint kit. I'm so impressed that you managed to utilize the available space to the fullest, congradulations! If I may make a small suggestion to help you evolve it a little further. I use the brown paper sacks from the grocery store, I cut them into useable sizes and make sketch books similar to the watercolor version you made. The bags make excellent quality paper for sketches in pencil black and white and that mid brown gives the art work a great mid tone to work from. May I also suggest that you consider painting your mixing pad mid tone gray as this makes mixing the correct color and tone easier and aids you the artist in identifying them more readily. I thought your use of pill pans is simply a genius idea, almost weightless, compact and big enough for most mini projects. Overall I found your presentation and your mobile watercolor kit impressive and I am not surprised that many others here, do also. Keep painting and enjoy. Big thumbs up and subscribed.
Pill pans! What a great idea! I've always wanted to take along my watercolors when I go to a café. But, all the palettes I found were way too big. This Altoid set is the perfect size. Thanks so much for sharing.
I was interested in making a traveling kit (I might end up using another similar small container, but in general the same concept) but really having trouble in thinking what can I use for keeping the paints inside without actually buying something, and the pill stripe idea is BRILLIANT. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
WOW You are amazing. I commend you for your ingenuity and creativity. You be well and keep em coming. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day. bye now
Great idea! I've been using the round "Ice Breakers" empty container for holding water. It's not liquid tight but it works for me at my desk at work. During lunch of course.
This is such a GREAT idea!! How creative. I am going to make this paint kit for myself asap. I just love how portable this is. Thanks so much for sharing this invention!! ; )
You can use bottle caps in that Altoid tin ... 6 in the bottom ... Layer of plastic or credit card and 6 more caps ... Some water bottle caps are shorter than others ... Great video ... Thanks for sharing!
Brilliants! After seeing so many Altoid tin "survival" kits, it's a joy to see an Altoid kit that gives me a reason to survive. The pill pan is true genius, btw.
brilliant idea! As it happens, I purchased a metal container of Sucrets for a sore throat this week. I thus have the materials for the carry case and the pan for watercolours. Guess what I will do with these?
I did the same thing but put my paint into small bottle caps. I dig the little book though, I may have to make some with my little brother sometime soon. =)
I may never throw away another pill burst pack again. I love this idea. I may make gift sets for the artists I know. I think it will be a terrific addition to their paint collections and maybe the most used!
I've been looking for a way to carry a larger number of a small bit of paints and thought about using bubble wrap, but the pill sheet is absolutely brilliant. I love you notebook too. You know someone said, if you get good enough at anything, someone will pay you for it. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if that happened to you. Best wishes and thanks for this.
Thank you I just did your idea for the Altoids tin that a friend had come back from U.S.A and I scored the tin from them lol . Anyway it looks fantastic thanks again Gail Adelaide South Australia
It's so cool that you thought about the mini traveling art set. For extra money you should make some and sell them around your campus; an art student like myself would find that really helpful. :D #winning
Good idea. He uses pill pans as wells, I was curious about using the plastic from a gum pack, like dentyne ice or trident. The wells may be larger. more paint, but less variety.
Thank you for the video, I really liked the box! Its a great idea! One suggestion - look for "coptic stitch" tutorials on TH-cam next time you want to make a sketchbook. I think it's the best way to make a really strong, pretty and useful sketchbook. made one myself without any special tools (just a regular needle and thread) and I really like it :)
Decided to watch your vid cause I was thinking about doing an Altoids box myself. I have a W&N pocket plus, holds 12 half-pans and a brush with several mixing areas and fits in a pair of cargo shorts great but I want a back-up. Pocket plus is under 20bucks as is but I like DIY stuff so thumbs up. One thing, if you by your watercolors in half or whole pans you can just toss them in your box, mix it up depending on where your traveling, what your painting like Earthy colors for outdoors etc.
Brilliant!! You know those icy breath drops...the liquid ones? They come in a TINY dropper bottle. It would fit. Also, a 3, 10...even possibly a 15 ml bottle that I use to hold e juice but they can hold water well, use them all the time. They would probably fit.
Serious. Thanks for the tips. Doing the same thing, but with 6 water bottle caps glued in to hold the paints (someone else's idea). But what six paints should I use? hmmmmm....
oil or acrylic paints or alcohol based ink solutions will all just harden. this will only work for watercolors or watersoluble crayons or watercolor pencil pieces.
Acrylic and oil pan palettes are so rare because they have to be in an airtight pan. Oil and Acrylic will dry up and crack and it becomes difficult to rework them. However, if you are interested in an acrylic travel kit, Mijello Artelier Air-Tight Palette is something that can hold oil and acrylics.
You can use a TV -antena "Y" (Those ones that you can expand i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/274217852/Antenna_for_radio_aerial_factory_.jpg ) and cut it and put one brus on the top. And like this you have one small brus that you can expand with the antena mechanist. :D
The pill palette was ingenious. How creative!!!

Do you by chance attend one of the Art Institutes?

Question can you also do this with acrylic paints are will they just dry out and harden?
