I just started learning to watercolor and a travel set like this would be perfect! Now I need to find an awesome container like yours. Oh and using magnets to hold the pans is genius!
Yes, keep your eyes open and you'll be seeing potential travel cases all over the place! LOL! Thanks about the magnets - it makes sense right? Not sure if they will stay in place if I drop them - that's what the elastic band is for ;)
Oh thanks - the sketchbook is just for ideas - the paintings are just rough drafts really. Can you believe I try not to tan?! I hung out under the trees, wear SPF 50 suntan lotion and wear a sun hat! The sun rays always find me.
Nice knees. There must be 10,357 videos on YT showing just about every watercolor sketchbook and plein-air/travel/pocket/thumb kit possible. But not one - not a single one - in which the artists shows her/his setup in use. I swear, the paintings shown in all 10,357 of those videos were done in the studio/kitchen.
I have a travel kit so I can create art at a different location. It may be in a hotel room, our condo in Palm Springs or somewhere else. Travel kit just means a smaller subset of something. :)
I really love your magnet idea! Silly question but where on earth did you buy so many flat mini-type magnets for you pans? I don't think I've ever seen them at Walmart or Target? Did you special order them or something? thanks! :)
Is your sketchbook ideal for watercoloring? the pages look like they couldnt handle well the amounts of water, your sketches still look gorgeous tho, but they would show up much better (and last much longer) if you use the right paper :)
+Cielo Ramírez de Arellano - I don't use a lot of water for my sketchbook watercoloring otherwise the paper does start to give way (like wear away). I do own a few watercolor paper sketchbooks - but I'm 'saving them' until I feel better about my watercolor skills. I did get a great travel journal from Anthropologie - it's suede and the paper - although isn't watercolor can handle more water than the one I bought at Michael's shown in this video. I bring that along and write about my vacations and illustrate in it. :) I am going to one day make my own sketchbooks using watercolors paper.
I love that you're just starting out too. and I love love love your uncomplicated paint kit. I'd use it all the time. so compact and practical.
Exactly. No fuss. Grab and go.

Mike L I find painting indoors more comfortable and convenient. :)
Then why bother to show a plein air/travel kit at all?
