    Day 1 - Asheville to Telico Plains
    200ish miles and 10 hours
    We finally have a weekend where we can do a TAT shakedown with the Smokey Mountain 500. Been looking forward to this - and it didn't disappoint!
    THANK YOU to Andy and whoever else planed and shared this route. It is a breathtaking work of staggering genius and the hard work is very appreciated. Check out the route and info at:

    I'm only about 2/3rds of the way through this video, but I absolutely love this video, and can't wait to watch the other ones. The chill music, beautiful scenery, and easy tone of your voice make this easy to just zone out to.
    Really makes me want to get a CT125 or a Yamaha TW200.

    • @ericwilliams626
      @ericwilliams626 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do not think its wise to use the CT for traveling. If you wish to use a small bike to travel use the TW200. The only issue with that bike is long term use on the carburetor and if you want to fiddle with that issue. I was considering it but I have something in a larger form factor that is similar and I like the Honda nostalgia of the CT for around town.

    Excellent episode and I'm ass backwards. I watched this one episode AFTER #2 & #3 and watching your super awesome EPIC TAT ADVENTURE. I'm actually glad I waited to watch this as it gave me my Ang & Pow fix. Your personalities and style are both so down to earth and genuine it makes it a pleasure to watch your content even more. Thank you both 👍👍

    That first water crossing looks like the one everybody on the TAT says keep all the way to the left. glad ya'll made it. Was looking at doing this on my 790 after it warms up. But so far looks like I could scout it out with My Excursion.

    • @SomeGuyRides
      @SomeGuyRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup - there are a bunch of shared roads between the TAT and the SM500 in that area... I know people do it in 4x4s - check the FB page and I'm sure you'll find some info... or on ADV Rider...

    • @JohnnyPowRides
      @JohnnyPowRides 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the same crossing - but here's some trivia - the "normal" routes of the TAT and SM500 you do Whitt Road (where the water crossings are) from different directions...

    Just contacted some dealers some locale some within 80 miles for one of these. Have a Kymco like 200i a 2012. I am 78 and these have caught my imagination, this is what I have been looking for and will order it . Just what I need and can handle in my old age, young in mind. Have fun while you can life does not last forever. All my friends are gone and may meet someone out there I can get along with. Believe me most old people suck big time. Need to meet some younger people who still have that imagination of adventure. Have fun.

    That’s an awesome ride and story. It’s actually very cool to hear it because it’s SOOO close to mine and probably many others. The bands I was in didn’t have the popularity that yours did. My 15 minutes of fame was opening for Johnny Paycheck in the early 90s. Then marriage and children came into play. Lots of calls to play with other groups but the fun became incredibly exhausting work and I was already working a full time construction job.

    I learned riding the tat from Damascus Virginia to telico that trying to keep everything charged is a chore. And almost makes the ride not enjoyable. I would recommend getting several batteries pack to charge stuff like you already have then stopping and doing a cheap hotel every 2 or 3 days. It can be a pain in the ass to video it all, but you do an exceptional job at it..... also I'm not sure if you carry a firearm. But I would highly advise it. Me and my dad ran into a naked man in north Carolina on the tat who had been shot 5 times and left for dead. He had been there 3 days laying in the ditch.
    It was extremely nerve racking because neither of us brought our pistols and didn't know if someone was up in the woods trying to jump us or not. He ended up getting life flighted out of there. Drug deal gone bad.

    I have not done any long distance riding, but have done lots of trail riding across many years; many XR’s, KDX250, and a CT90.
    I’m here because I’m interested and kicking around the idea of doing the TAT.
    One thing about your situation and bike selection is that there are two of you… two people can team up and wrestle a couple of heavy Enfield’s through the truly difficult spots while still being comfortable and having abundant power on the other 98% of the trip.
    So far I’m considering a XR650l.. lowered w/ a different seat.

      Check out the TAT videos if you get the chance - we ended up taking the CT125's. I did half the country solo and it was great. Then I hooked up with Johnny Pow in Colorado to finish - and that was also great. Hope you get to do the TAT - you won't regret it. I've done some overnights with the REH too and I love that bike - but it probably would have been too heavy for me on the TAT. Would have really liked to have the speed of the himmy on the slab though... (and the comfort and better luggage setup options...)

We were sweating and just dying and going so freaking slow. Then from above us comes five school girls whizzing down wearing flip flops. It was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. I still have no idea how it was possible!

    Most roads like that were originally game trails and followed by American Indians. As time progressed they were widened with horse and wagons with the early american settlers.

    Amazing videos! I just got a CT125 and can’t wait to do rides like this! I am very inspired by you, C90Adventures and Itchy Boots.
    What is your complete bike setup? Things you changed from stock, bag set up.. any other advice for a new adventure rider (experienced woods/dirtbiker)

      Thanks for checking out the vids! If you go to the channel (and if you have the time) - start at the very beginning. You'll see the whole process I went through to figure out a setup and what I ended up with. I went completely stock including the tires. Links to gear lists and stuff at: linktr.ee/SomeGuyRides

    I really like these CT125s but it would be cool to do it on a TW200 cause you wouldn’t have to rev it out quite so hard on the big road sections. I will do this one day!

      I'd worry about the 13000+ ft elevation playing with the carburetor.
      I'm only at 6000 and I have troubles with hills from time to time. Though I guess if you're dialed in with field tuning you'd be alright?

    Why not get a motorcycle rack for your car, drive to the beginning of the trail, unload, ride & then double back to the vehicle?
    It's what I do, the highway / expressway / northern & southern state here are too damn dangerous in a car so I sure as hell won't chance it on a motorcycle.
    I've got a 1st gen Forester & it hauls the bike around just fine

      one place there's a house with a giant white dog that ran out and acted threatening (but just barked and chased us) - it looked like the trail was taking us up a driveway but we ended up going around the house on what looked like new gravel section. I think the gps track went straight but we went around.
