    Must be capillary action that gets the trans fluid up there. Couldn't be pressure because there's a vent on the outside top of bell housing. Very strange how some do and some don't have this problem. Buddy of mine said he just pulled tcm out and put it back in upside down to prevent this from happening. My E320 wagon trans went south so I found one for $600 locally in wrecking yard. Had "Genuine Mercedes Rebuilt" placard on it. I put new filter and new cond plate in it and new gasket. Replaced radiator, hoses, water pump, serp belt, idler and tens. pulleys. Changed passenger side motor mount. Driver side not yet (can't get hand in there let alone wrench, and the non dealer shop wants $385 just for labor!) but at least have one motor mount and trans mount fresh. Trans shifts nicely, it's just that Now my car sounds like a combination of a Cessna, a Volkswagen, and when decelerating, a commercial jet with slightly out of sync engines. (you've heard that if you fly much...its a low freq out of sync rumble sound) Thinking of trying old torque converter, as even tho old trans slipped a lot, at least it WAS very quiet compared to this trans. Used the Valvoline synthetic trans fluid also. So far so good after 1000 MI.

    I've had this exact thing happen on my 04 C230. Wicked it's way all the way into the cabin and to the TCM. Pulled back the carpets and BAM. lots of fluid

    This type of problem might be starting to occur once exceeding 80,000 miles?.
    So replace transmission oil, filter & this adaptor c/w two o-ring at every 100,000 miles?. Though transmission oil & filter best be replaced at every 50,000 miles?
    Some Mercedes had the TCM behind firewall at the lower part of foot well.

    Honest guy here in video.
    I'm no mechanic, fixed my c240 transmission. Replaced conductor plate, new plug/connector, filter ,inspected TCM, the real problem was the sensor on shifter LOL. All good now. Used Valvoline maxlife full synthetic to refill.
    When I was done I forgot to plug tcm back in wouldnt go out of first.Almost freaked! Quickly solved it though.
    Getting a good scanner that reads tranny codes helps, which I didnt have.

      Can you explain more about when you said sensor on shifter? What sensor you are referring to?

    So what was the outcome of the video? Did the cleaning work or did you have to replace the TCM? Also did you still need to replace the conductor plate or was it just the TCM???

      @@GaryFerraro The plug was full of oil, after clean all electric and replacing connector all start working fine. Next day P240C back again. Then now I am with TCM, oil was all around the connectors. After good clean - still the same (inside TCM no oil). From this place i can check all solenoids and resistance is ok, only not showing anything for TFT sensor. I have service book for this gearbox and in chart of errors the letter C in error code is mean TFT sensor (or I am wrong???)

    gary, great video now thats something i did not know at all. this only happens with these models ? or can it happen with 98 ml320 trucks? i have a question regarding this transmission, just want to know your profesional answer, i have a ml320 right now at my shop, and i had codes for input speed sensor codes, so i changed the conductor plate, and no more codes except right rear wheel speed sensor. symptoms are, first test drive the truck shifts smoothly, really good, no problem at all, so if you keep driving the truck for a while lets say 20 min, and you stop and turn the truck off, then turn the truck on the truck goes into limp in mode. and wont shift past second i believe. you have to turn the truck off for at least 10 min then turn it back on and it works great again, unitl you cycle the keep off and on again. question is, will a wheel speed sensor affect the transmission and cause it to go into limp mode? or am i dealing with another problem?
    codes are 022, 041, 118 and 137 thanks in advance gary.

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ok, So if the truck will not shift past 2nd, sounds like it's stuck in first gear, anytime I had a Mercedes stuck in first gear it was always electrical problem. When you get it not to shift, clear the code and see if it shifts. I would say that a speed sensor may affect the way the trans shifts. If that code is present in the trans module I would get that fixed. You really have to fix that first to see if anything changes

    • @arturocortezsantana99
      @arturocortezsantana99 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GaryFerraro alright I Will check that out, and yes the wheel speed sensor code is present on the tcm module. But it starts off in second and wont shift, I believe its second cause it starts of sluggish. Thanks Gary.

      @@GaryFerraro just wanted to get back to you about the ml320 that was setting abs codes, so I changed right rear wss, and all I had left was transfer case code, took the transfer case motor, opened it, and found a plastic piece that was causing the gear to stick, I didn't know where it went, but I just took it out, put back together and no more codes, went for a test drive and boom! It was fixed, so now I understand that even a speed sensor code can cause the trans to go into limp mode. Thank you Gary for your help. Really great videos. Keep it up.

    Those who have a TCM full of fluid, you can open it up and clean it better, even tho it's not designed to be opened easily. Unfortunately for me, it didn't work. I had to replace it.
    Also replaced the conductor plate and electrical connector.

      You could start by changing the connector and blowing air down the wire harness to try to clean it, try that first

    My 97 E300 D wouldn’t shift out of first among a bunch of other funny electrical wonders. All it was that my alternator was giving out to much voltage and needed to be replaced.
