When Koko passed away nearly five years ago, I felt as if a piece of myself died. It was heartbreaking. That beautiful, intelligent creature taught us so much. Koko wanted to be a mother very much, but unfortunately, it never happened. She had so much love to give. RIP dear girl.
Dogs learn how strong they are to regulate their strength in play to not hurt their peers. I am absolutely sure apes know that too, they are smarter than dogs. Even with other species it is reported that they are more gentle to little children, even human children.

I remember this from the 1980s. EVERYONE needs to see this and we as humans NEED TO UNDERSTAND that primates are NOT animals!!! They are humans, just like us! They need to be protected and have human rights! They should NOT be caged, locked up and put on display for our entertainment. We need to respect and acknowledge them as fellow humans!😢

I love watching koko, it’s a pity that the footage of her is, by today’s standards, lower quality - perhaps it’s because it was never intended to be viewed on all the devices we routinely use today, multi media. There’s not a lot of video footage of koko, I just wish I could see it better. ❤ She was so special.

@danielgonzalezd4343. I do volunteer care in Florida for rescued orangutans and gorillas; a gentle hug from a gorilla accustomed to people is a incredible emotional experience. Orangutans are mostly more reserved but there are some in my group who like cuddles as well 😊

We humans must finally learn to understand that every animal is perfectly adapted to its world and is therefore intelligent. Whether it can adapt to our civilization is too much to ask. After all, we don't want to adapt perfectly to life as a chicken, crocodile or fish to show that we are like them
