As a hunter jumper rider in the USA, I find the way that these top dressage riders keep the horses’ chins tucked to their chests absolutely disgusting and unnatural. For those of you unfamiliar with hunter classes in the U.S., we do a course of jumps designed to look like natural obstacles one would find while out hunting. The horse is judged by its style of moving and jumping, as well as whether or not the strides in related distances were achieved correctly. Any aids given to the horse by the rider should be invisible. The whole point of hunters is to make the horse look as natural and easy to ride as possible, so the mildest bits possible are used, and the horses are allowed to carry their heads and necks in a natural position. You would NEVER see a horse in any level hunter class with its neck this rounded and its head cranked to its chest! We ENCOURAGE the horse to stretch out its neck and poke its nose out a bit. We want them to have their heads in front of the vertical and their necks in a relaxed, lower, natural position. Even in show jumping (which is an international sport, as is dressage), we do NOT want our horses’ muzzles bent behind its poll (aka behind the vertical) with its chin cranked to its chest. Show jumpers usually carry their heads higher than hunters naturally, but they aren’t forced into a frame of any kind. There is no way any horse could jump an obstacle with the super unnatural neck and head carriage I see at high level dressage. The horse needs the freedom to use its head and neck to jump. I have seen plenty of “lower level” dressage in which the horses were kept in a much less drastic frame; less curvature of the neck and the horses muzzles being in vertical alignment with -or even slightly in front of -their polls. This position would be MUCH more comfortable and healthy for the horse. I don’t see the need for the extreme head sets; horses are equally capable of performing high level movements such as piaffe and passage with a more natural frame. One of my best jumpers was a Dutch Warmblood who had a VERY good dressage education before he was imported to the U.S. I will never claim to be a dressage expert, but I managed to figure out how to do leg yields, half passes, canter pirouettes, and tempi changes on this horse, just as part of our flatwork sessions. Never once did I use anything other than a mild snaffle bit, nor did I ride him in this insane kind of frame! When my horse got a bit older and I decided that jumping was just too much stress for his senior body and legs, I leased him to a woman who rode dressage. She rode him beautifully and showed him successfully , and he never looked like he was in pain or even uncomfortable. So I know that it IS possible to ride dressage correctly without hurting the horses, and seeing this cruel method REWARDED by FEI judges makes me physically ill.
You wanna have words about how nasty hunters is? Drugged horses? Kids not warming up their own horses? Jumping in martingales (gross) gags and pelham's being used improperly (I.e. without 2 reins) draw reins and the like. You have money to import a pre trained horse so maybe you are lucky and don't see these things but I have. It's disgusting. Top level has its issues sure but most dressage rides are kind, giving, supportive people
@@NoThankUBeQuietI agree. I rode hunters for several years before getting a horse who clearly preferred dressage, and I saw much worse treatment of the horses in the Hunter world. I got out because my horses couldn’t compete against the horses that had been lunged to death before the riders got on, and/or had had their tails nerved so they wouldn’t show any signed of stress. I have also never seen boxes for needle disposal at any of my dressage shows.

@@danielabackstrom How would you know if he had a blue tongue? It didn't come out of his mouth. And yes watch the video he was ridden with the lightest of contacts the whole test.
Yes the top trainers at the top levels in western and gaited horse disiplines are just as cruel and inhumane just to win. I have seen them tie a horses head up to the ceiling for hours so they would keep their heads down in their class. Have seen gaited horses with blocks on their feet to make them lift their legs higher up. As long as prestige and money are involved people will do anything to win at the horses agony and expense. I have even seen it at cattle work practices too. It never ceases to amaze me how cruelly some people treat such a noble animal.

@@marionboucher3155I mean it has come out that she has. I doubt it happens all the time but .....she's no saint. It is entirely possible without it though
Just a query from an ignorant horse lover , but is that bouncing gait unnatural for a horse to maintain ? I’ve seen a horse bouncing around in short bursts !
The piaffe is a collected movement that is natural for horses, a correct piaffe the horse is collecting under itself and pushing from it's hind. The movement shown in tests recently isn't very natural for the horse however. All movements in dressage are meant to benefit and develop a horses strength and muscle, but you won't see a whole lot in the grand prix ring. I recomend watching performances from the late 70's to 2000.
More than just trainers whipping! Rolkur, bits, over extension ! FEI should be ashamed of themselves all round! Sadly everyone is looking up to this standard of "dressage". As well as jumping horses at unreasonable heights pulling them up by the bit to get over the next jump when they are exhausted! Bits whips spurs all deemed fine by calling it "aids". The equestrian world is warped towards tradition and ego it's mostly negative. Sports involving animals at such high stakes should not be supported because the animal always looses, always.
It's creating a full body stiffness instead of collection and flowing beautiful movement. These horses would be far more beautiful to watch without pulling their mouths off.
I am sorry, but I fınd it difficult to watch…for me the horse seems very tense especially in the neck. You can see that his mouth is hurting him with all the bits in it
How so? He at no time was resisting the bit. "All the bits"? There are only two, which he seems completely fine with! Not once did I see him opening his mouth. In fact, his lower lip was a bit loose, indicating a relaxed attitude, and his ears were also in relaxed mode. No tail swishing in annoyance. Not once did he give any indication of discomfort. Don't automatically assume a double bridle is a problem. If he was stiff in his neck, it would show up elsewhere in the body, as well. You don't get that kind of elevation in piaffe and passage with stiffness present.
You don't understand why the horse is foaming at the mouth do you? If a horse is tense their mouth dries out. The foam indicates it's mouth is relaxed and i the horse is working comfortably and correctly.

The free walk was more like a propper frame than loose rein/ free walk imo. I agree deathgrip on dressage horses is what it is. That said this is not the worst ive seen. Would like to see changes in this sport. It would be better for the horse. It's gotten to where I'm looking more for pain/ stress signs than anything else. The more I look the more i see. Does anyone else watching have a sense that Imhotep has a problem with his left front leg, the one without the white sock? I almost wince every time he steps on it during certain maneuvers! I feel like something is going to snap, like it is weaker than the rest somehow. I wish someone would tell her!😢
With Valegro I liked her ridingstyle, but this is awful. Too short in the neck, this horse can't breath normal in this position and the horse is very restless in the mouth.
The only difference between trot and passage is the speed. The animation is the same. There is nothing natural about the gaits. Just a wooden doll on strings. And the strings have been tight, super tight. How many inches are between the horses chin and the neck? Six? Does the horse take the rein when she releases the curb? No? Why? And why are the hands "scrubbing a bathroom"? Does she know they are connected to the metals surrounded by soft tissues? And why is the horse drooling so much? Can we hear his breathing? Why not? Questions, questions...
Do you need glasses? She. never uses the curb. !! She puts her hands forward to encourage self carriage.. All gaits in a dressage test are based on movements a horse naturally does in freedom. Trot and passage. are NOT the same. Educate yourself instead of trying to be clever. Yo're not.

And half the hunters can't even be ridden without perfect prep or worse Ace.
Top level has its issues sure but most dressage rides are kind, giving, supportive people
I completely agree with you! This is Rollkur and very dangerous for the horse! These horses die way too young!

Horse's head cranked too far in, too painful to watch.
Why are the associations allowing this?!
Not cranked in at all , he is ridden on the lightest of contact.

Surprised at comment's . Wondering if ppl. Criticize Western Style Events this way .
yes, all the time.
Absolutely
Yes the top trainers at the top levels in western and gaited horse disiplines are just as cruel and inhumane just to win. I have seen them tie a horses head up to the ceiling for hours so they would keep their heads down in their class. Have seen gaited horses with blocks on their feet to make them lift their legs higher up. As long as prestige and money are involved people will do anything to win at the horses agony and expense. I have even seen it at cattle work practices too. It never ceases to amaze me how cruelly some people treat such a noble animal.
Oh truly we all are abusers of our horses don't care for them right. I'm a State Champion and hear that and more. If my horses weren't taken care of right it be hard to win any event
Am I seeing what everyone else is so excited about? For me it's unpleasant to watch. Robotic. Horse tense and not allowed to have a normal neck!
@@mills12322 he is behind the vertical, that's what she's referring to. Lewis Carrier's ride was harmonius and with a horse on the vertical, reaching for the contact. Sadly judges score more for an incorrect frame such as frames behind the vertical 🙃
@@mills12322 - It's straight up torture. A horse would never choose to do this, they are forced to by narcissistic, sadistic humans who want to boost their ego and their wallets. It's digusting animal cruelty.
@@medusaslair ur just completely ignored my point earlier and are trying to turn it around these horses are more the up for performing this level of dressarge if they hated dressarge then the owners wouldn’t make them do it is common knowledge

Amazing rider!
The horse and rider are both talented very much so
Did she beat them all?
The horse's neck is almost straight up and the head retracted as far as it will go. Does the poor thing even get enough air..? Ugly!
I disagree about the "death grip" on the reins. The manoeuvres are so complex the horse would be confused and make errors if the reins were too loose. The contact with the horse has to be firm enough for clarity of intention, simple as. I think we can rely on Charlotte to know what she's doing, her results speak for themselves! ❤

Consider deleting videos show casing Dujardin, her wins were not honorable & have sullied this glorious sport.
I hope Charlotte gets jailed for animal abuse and banned from the sport for life.
Why do they all ride with a death grip on the reins, behind the bit ..it's aweful I don't watch anymore
and also so narrow ((
Maybe they will let the horses relax if the reins are slacker . That would never do.
It's creating a full body stiffness instead of collection and flowing beautiful movement. These horses would be far more beautiful to watch without pulling their mouths off.
@@pixie706 Try watching. This horse was ridden on the lightest of contacts the whole test. S he doesn't even use the curb rein at all.
@@melly7210and why ride with spurs no matter how short not needed..
I am sorry, but I fınd it difficult to watch…for me the horse seems very tense especially in the neck. You can see that his mouth is hurting him with all the bits in it
You have quite an imagination.
People seem to think that the horse putting in any effort at all represents cruelty or something@@andtrrrot
@senna9408Shouldn't it be,"tense?"
WE WHIPPING HORSES WITH THIS ONE❤🔥
Ya well u have to ask the question now . How are they getting these horses to move like they do ?
@@predatornz.5493 exactly... tho its sad... they dont use them for what they are... but rather as disposable tools that are thrown away, rich guy mentality in all its finest
I use to think of Dressage as a test of the bond and communication between horse and rider. Now...

His stable name is Pete.. So no,he's not a mare 😂
With Valegro I liked her ridingstyle, but this is awful. Too short in the neck, this horse can't breath normal in this position and the horse is very restless in the mouth.
It's a wonder that the poor animalscan breath. Let go of the bloody reins?
How the mighty have fallen. ⛔
Yo're not.
