I am gobsmacked that Takomo are able to make clubs and ship them to Australia at an affordable price. Every other international DTC comes in pretty much at the same rate as regular consumer brands that we can at least try before we buy
Me too swapped the mizuno 921hmp for the kirklands and I'm hitting the ball better plus I got a hole in one so that's definitely gained a few plus points with me
i play abit of golf not very good at all but i have a set off facebook market place come with everything even a trolly for £80 haha probs not the best though already been told they are blades and not really suited for new players haha
Orka have some fantastic deals and British as well as custom fit to the tightest tolerance with traditional lofts and no lack of distance or dispersion.
Takomo needs to have a small store in every capital city where people can go and pick up the clubs and swing them, I like to hold and look at things I buy. They don’t need to have full fitting and sales out of these stores. Just one or 2 consultants, a place where their entire range is there to look at, a few bays where you can swing them, maybe hit a ball or 2. It would be a tiny capital outlay that would pay for itself in no time, if these clubs are as good as advertised.
I got back into golf last year after a 5 year hiatus. I looked into getting some new clubs as I said was playing more regularly, but with the mad prices I think I'll keep using my Callaway X22s until the heads come off the shafts!
As a golfer in my 50’s, my next set will be a set similar to the Cleveland hybrid iron full face groove set with 9 iron as probably my longest true iron!
I have noticed Orka being ignored in this type of video. A few of the channels have now done this in the last couple of months, not one of them has mentioned ORKA. Very strange, great clubs and as you say custom fitted foe around £650.
The Takomo clubs really seem to be the best value for forgiveness and looks. They still come in at a reasonable price too here in Australia with shipping. I would love to see a comparison with the Aussie DTC brand called Haitch. They make some pretty looking irons
I don't know if the Sub 70s are available in the UK but they are DTC irons forged, etc, irons and they are completely customizable. I got forged CB irons with lamkin grips and soft stepped Project X 6.0. Even a custom ferrule! Love them.
I inquired and they don’t sell Takomo 101T heads LEFT HANDED … they said maybe in future. If ever, I will be all over it. But without being fitted, my swing is just too erratic. 🤷♂️
@@jeffnahass8373 👍👍👍. Yes. I took your EXACT advice and did that at the PING proving grounds in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. I now have a set of i525. 👍🙂🙃
Great video James and Gaz. Both of those are amazing value and performance for sure. But I've got the Tour Edge E723 irons and for the money they are amazing performance, looks and especially forgiveness. Love to see Gaz as often as possible on the channel. Happy New Year guys.
The 101s rule. I gamed them all last year and had the best year of golf ever. The feel is unbeatable. Very forgiving even on mishits. They are staying firmly in my bag in`25.
I am in the market for new irons as I currently play with older Titleist CB's. The Takomos look fantastic and seem to be the perfect spec for me. Will be buying the 101T in the near future!
Watching from Gastonia, NC USA. I really enjoy the videos and your goal of making golf more economical. I Just turned 70 and am remaking my bag. The issue is I don't need to purchase an entire set of irons as I am switching to a 7 wood & 5 hybrid for the longer irons. Unfortunately I can't find many companies who sell single irons that are not from the high priced guys. I wrote Takomo and they responded it's something they are looking into. Any guidance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
i woulf love to see you try some maltby irons you can get a set sub 500 usd as forgiving as any iron iv ever hit and imo have some of the best looks in each catyagory only thing is im not sure they sell/ship to uk
I use the cobra xl set irons and just upgraded the driver but may stick with the irons for some time and just re grip every couple of years...always good stuff
Golf is expensive for sure and the last few months I’ve put my Titleist T100s and Vokey wedges in the garage for the Takomo 101t and Takomo wedges .. they’re pretty good and had hem custom fit with kbs x shafts.. might be controversial but the Sky forger wedges spin more than my vokeys and I’ve used vokeys since sm7 just wish they had 50,52,58 hopefully they come out this year.. I paid 2600 for my full Titleist set excluding my Scotty and 639 for my Takomo set and 300 for the wedges lol
When the grooves wear out on my 2021 Titleist T100S’s I’ll be going to Takoma’s. How can you when they’re about half the price of a full set of Titleist irons?! Incredible performance and quality
How does the Takomo 101T compare to their 201? I know the 201 is forged and is one piece and not hollow. I get the impression from reviews that the 301 is not quite as forgiving as either the 101T nor the 201. Is the 101T more forgiving than the 201? I am assuming the 'hot spot' problems with stainless steel irons are long gone. Is that true? Thanks.
As you bring up the subject of gloves, there is a new glove out on the market by a UK company Loft and Lie, they sound fantastic, but how about a review of gloves.?? I personally think it's one of the most difficult things to get right, peoples hands differ so much, majority of folk don't know know how a glove should actually fit and even if they do, it's tough to find the right glove company that gloves give the best fit. Just an idea, but I think it would make for a great video that could answer many questions about what gloves to buy and get the correct fit for.
Just want to know what others think about those who say the Takomos won’t last as long due to the metals used? I am in the market for new clubs but want them to last for at least 5 years.
If under £600 is affordable then fine. But Benross do perfectly decent playable irons from under £350 with the hollow bodied stuff from £429. And I think that includes custom fitting as well.... But of course, noone reviews them....☹️
A couple of things I don't get with Takomo. They have their Obsidian own branded graphite iron shafts. I haven't seen anyone test or compare them. Also I don't get the pricing. The 101t are $100 more than the 101. The components are the same. unless I'm missing something, tge heads are the same except for the size. if anything from a pure material cost, the small ones would be cheaper?
Normally I’d call someone out for picking their club sponsor as the best club out there. In this situation sponsored or not it’s probably accurate instead, I’ll just wish you a happy new year.
Until DTC brands have a more robust demo program it will be hard for many of us to give them a go. “Only” $600/$700/$800 sounds great compared to big brands but the lack of hands-on opportunities and limited customization (e.g, lie, shaft length, grip wraps, etc.) make it hard to hit the purchase button.
The thumbnail confused me you showed like 6 clubs and played 1 each should have been our 1 favorite value golf brands and also playing the hybrid was weird I think people were thinking you were ranking the irons just my own personal opinion
I recently have looked at Takomo and Caley, but the price has crept up. I think you may be better waiting a few model years and buying the bigger names. I fear they are pricing themselves too high to be considered budget! They are only budget compared to the current overpriced options of the big name manufacturers. I never shop for the current offering. I wait a few model years. I can’t be bothered to have the latest and greatest!! Discretionary income won’t allow it nowadays
Hey James and others! Thank you for the love❤
I am gobsmacked that Takomo are able to make clubs and ship them to Australia at an affordable price. Every other international DTC comes in pretty much at the same rate as regular consumer brands that we can at least try before we buy
I've brought the kirklands irons and honestly couldn't be happier with them. More distance and just as forgiving as my last callaway set.
Me too swapped the mizuno 921hmp for the kirklands and I'm hitting the ball better plus I got a hole in one so that's definitely gained a few plus points with me
i was going to mention the kirkland (costco) clubs because they are alot cheaper than 600 quid haha
lol I started using the Costco over my fitted cobra set to prove you can play just as well with clubs off the shelf. Spoiler alert I was right.
i play abit of golf not very good at all but i have a set off facebook market place come with everything even a trolly for £80 haha probs not the best though already been told they are blades and not really suited for new players haha

I'm going for an Iron custom fit next week. £399 full set FITTED.... Unreal!
15th January for me. Offer too good to miss 👍🏻
Prices are out of control. I went with Maltby TS3. Every bit as good as my Titleist TMB’s.
Great review. Thanks
I just picked up a set of TS3's 5-PW with Nippon shafts and The Grip Master grips for $330 Canadian. I can't wait to get them out on course.
@@uNkLeRaRa4you’ll love them! They are superb!
Went 4-GW. 4 is pretty forgiving. GW loft is same as old PW loft. I have a really high ball flight so it works. Great clubs. Hope you enjoy yours.
Maltby is the most underrated clubs on the market!
@@uNkLeRaRa4 what a steal!! Did you get them off eBay? I've been constantly looking for a set of used, since new is $820CAD.

You guys should bring a 20 handicap to also compare those clubs. Throw the kirkland and maybe another brand in as well.
I love the look of the Takomo 101T irons and I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase them the next time I change my irons

With the current VIP offer they're even better value. 5-PW, plus a gap wedge iirc for only £400 fitted. I'm booked in for a fitting 15th this month 🙂
Doing a deal now, full set of irons CUSTOM FITTED FOR £399......Im booked in for after the next weekend. Insane deal.
Maltby KE4 MAX are great performing irons and extremely affordable. Nobody ever mentions them.

How do these compare to the Caley clubs
Hi, have you tried the Rife RX7 irons? I bought a set and my mate has also bought replacement for his Mizuno. He plays off 5!
Strange that RAM never gets a look in? They've got hollow back irons £299 and forged at £399 would love to see them reviewed on TH-cam.

Gary has a shop eh? whats the link for second hand clubs, for me the best way to buy stuff, please advise, cheers
James great content, How does the Takomo 201's compare to the Titleist T200? Which is more forgiving?
I wasn’t really a fan of the 201 tbh. The T200 is more hollow body design I think probably comparable to the 101T

Not too worried about $1500-$1800 for irons, it’s paying $1200 for a driver that stings and $700 for a fairway wood. $2600 for 3 sticks.
