    Those are larval flukes, sometimes called yellow grubs (Clinostomum marginatum), harmless to humans but gross looking. Often found in bass, bream, and sunfish. Earlier this summer we caught some small mouth bass that were full of them. Still ate the bass after cooking thoroughly. The grubs dissolved with cooking and were undetectable. The fish was delicious, though the though of those parasites is still unnerving.

      It's estimated that 80% of the people on the planet have some kind of parasite inside of them. In some ways the Bacteria in our guts are also parasites. They found the most common parasite in humans recently are a type of mite that lives inside our skin's pores, they estimate nearly all adults have them. So in a way 99% of humans have parasites.

    You sir, just earned big fan (and a subscriber...)
    Almost 20 years ago, while i was just a kid, u used to catch these frogs and every now and then fried up pair of legs for giggles...
    I liked the taste but i enjoyed process more... i never removed those you call flippers instead, used them as holding bit. I fried them on stick, above flames, and this video returned me to those days and i am grateful on this reminder! i always remembered how unsalty they are after finishing them...

    I've watched your glass knapping video on making the arrowhead. Looks like it works great on frogs and doesn't break easily on their soft bodies. If you have tried it on deer, what was your results? It's pretty easy for me to hit bone on a deer. Maybe that is because I'm not a good enough shot to hit frogs in the head like you are! If I could do that I could drill my arrow right where I wanted it in a deer. BTW, I shoot a 45 year old traditional 50 pound recurve and really want to try the glass arrowheads but I don't want it to just break off and wound the animal. What's your recommendation?

    the worms in its legs is called Spirometra

    • @warmfreeze
      @warmfreeze 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Edward Marshall One of the most horrible parasites infecting frogs so far is a species of tapeworm called Spirometra erinacei. It becomes a breeding adult once it has been picked up by house cats. Larvae are passed to wild (or your wild caught) frogs when the cat leaves them behind on soil. The worm then migrates through several internal organs in the frog, causing extensive damage as it passes through them. Eventually it digs into the frogs' muscular tissues in his thighs.
      Symptoms
      Once the Spirometra makes it into the muscle, it begins "eating", or liquifying the tissue, even causing the pelvic bone to become brittle and break. The frogs' immune system is attacked here too, because he has several lymph glands in this region of his body. The worm(s) then affect the skin surface of the poor frog. This weakens of course, allowing more pathogens to infect the frog.

    • @edwardmarshall2035
      @edwardmarshall2035 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      warmfreeze Interesting read, but these look nothing like the pinkish tapeworm, Spirometra Erinacei, and everything like yellow grub trematodes.

    • @warmfreeze
      @warmfreeze 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Edward Marshall I took that into consideration but Trimatodes burrow in from the outside and usually leave massive lesions on the skin of the animal... Spirometra are typically whatever color the the material turns when they are digesting...not necessarily pink and burrow from the inside out..

    Shawn,
    Always look forward to your videos!
    For the sinew, take you pine pitch (small amount) and boil it. It will become more liquid like and less solid, however it will cover the sinew binding with a thin layer of waterproofing. This pitch will not be strong after boiling, but it will waterproof.
    You could also try submerging the whole foreshaft in rendered deer tallow. Haven't tried that yet but will soon.

    There are so many different styles of frog hunting. Good shooting and that was interesting about the sinew that it comes apart when it gets wet, I'll have to remember. Maybe try coating it really well with bee's wax but the bee's wax will eventually wear off if shooting a lot. It was cool that the arrow head held up for a while though.
