Steve Harris is easily one of the most under-appreciated songwriters in the 20th century. You can tell when a band's songwriter is a bassist because it thumps.
I grew up with Iron Maiden, dad would blast this all over the house/garage in the early 90's and throughout my teens. I will forever be a an Iron Maiden fan.
NEM I remember going to my first Maiden concert in 2001 in Vancouver. I was 18 and it was the first show that I went to on my own with or without my parents permission. I’ve been an Iron Maiden nerd since I was 14 and even now they still hold the same magic live as when I first saw them. The ban and their music will always hold a special place in my heart🖤

Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner.(Live After Death version]. It's long, but so worth it. The Flight 666 live version is more theatrical and worth a watch also.
Not only one of the best metal bands of all time...they always had some of the best (I feel the best) album cover art of all time. I couldn’t wait to see what each of their album covers were like. That double guitar work is so great. IMO....Bruce’s voice (along with Halford) are the two best male voices in metal ...ever. Keep exploring them you won’t be disappointed 🤘
Seen them live twice in the past few years and considering they're all effectively pensioners now, they've still definitely got it and would easily run rings round a lot of newer bands! Please do more Maiden reactions!! The Trooper, Run to the hills, fear of the dark to name a few!
I saw them in 2017 for the Book of Souls tour, I was exhausted looking at Bruce Dickinson, they can still do, it was an incredible show that they put on.
What really makes this song work as an early(ish) headbanger is not only Nicko's wicked drumming, but Steve Harris' absolutely charging bassline. Watch whenever he is on screen, and all of his right fingers and just galloping across the strings. Then add on the dual-axe attack, with Bruce wailing above it, and you have, my friends, an Iron Maiden song :P
Every freaking time I watch or listen to this song I get so emotional, it's crazy. Not just because of the lyrics, but mainly because of how ridiculously good this thing is written and performed. Truly a dream of a piece.

One of my favorite songs. I saw them on this tour and they melted my face. They are one of the best live bands I have even seen. Clive Burr (RIP) was a monster on the drum kit. If you want to go on a rollercoaster ride, give Rime of the Ancient Mariner a spin. It's a long song and it is epic. Also, their first two albums with Paul Dianno on vocals are two amazing albums. I recommend Charlotte the Harlot from their first album or Murders in the Rue Morgue from the second album. Actually, any song you listen to on these albums will not disappoint.

Saw this show in '82 and then '85...88......92. had a life and then some, married divorced. 2021 new wife new life and I took her to see them last year 2022. Wife is not a metal type but she was so impressed by their stage presence and theatrical show...SHE LOVED IT!!!
I saw them last year for the first time and man do they put on a great live show. Even as old men they're running around the stage climbing up to the second level of the stage and Bruce had a flamethrower and was shooting off flame bursts into the air.
I'm with you. I didn't get into Iron Maiden until relatively recently. I was lucky enough to get to catch them on their tour last year and they were incredible! Easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. Hoping I get to see them again someday and I hope you do too!

I saw them live in Vegas last year. I am 30 yrs old and that is the first time I have ever shed tears of joy. My girlfriend came with me and she had never heard a song before, she was completely in awe as to how anyone can sound that amazing in a live show. It was a religious experience. Now another suggestion : Sign of the cross live in Rock in Rio. That song wasn't sung by Bruce on the album (it was Blaze Bailey), that was when he temporary left the group, but this live version is amazing ! Both have such different voices, but he nailed it. Up the Irons !

This song has one of the best buildups in any metal song anywhere. It's a great song to use to introduce people to metal because it takes a little time to get going.
If someone asked me to pick one song to explain heavy metal, it would be Hallowed Be Thy Name. Where to go from here? The Trooper, Fear of the Dark, Wasted Years, Infinite Dreams, Number of the Beast. And the wonderful thing is they're still just as good, though thankfully with less spandex.
Saw them twice in the early 1980s one time opening for Judas Priest what time as a headliner here in Syracuse New York I had a Jean jacket with a kiss patch on the front and an iron maiden patch on the back
It took me ages to really find Maiden as well. Been into Sabbath and Metallica for 25-30 years but not Maiden. Strangely, it was hearing Fear of the Dark by Van Canto that made me listen to the original Maiden version. My appreciation grew from there.

So lets reflect that this is over 35 years ago and this band play this song with as much punch today as they did then and they are still bringing out heavy as hell, first class new music as well.

Bought their first album because of the album cover when I was 15😂...still holds up after 40 years(and many haven’t).

I saw them that year (1982) touring as the opening band for Scorpions on their Blackout tour. What a concert!
