For 30 of my 42 years on this earth, I've been a metal fan. Everything from hair metal to Metallica to Trivium and lately Nightwish. Maiden still gets me like few others can.
Such an amazing song! It's about the Battle of Britain from the perspective of an ace Spitfire pilot. Hearing the Churchill speech live gave me chills then the band just exploded onto the stage with Aces High. Fucking incredible!
With all the maiden masterpieces you want pashendale? No whrthchild, no murders in the rue morgue, no the prowler, phantom of the opera, strange world, invaders, children of the damned, where eagles dare, back in the village, caught somewhere in time, the evil that man do and also my nickname..... .."pashendale"??
It's astonishing to me that you have done seven iron Maiden songs, and still haven't reacted to *_Hallowed be thy name_* (I recommend the 1982 Live version)...just sayin. I suspect you'll be steppin through that door again! lol Chur from NZL. *\m/*
Opsman Six Oh yeah definitely especially with that fucking incredible Spitfire plane. They did an incredible job with the tour. I hope they bring out the spitfire again whenever they play this song live when it’s not the LOTB tour.
YESSSSSS! I fucking love this song. I think it’s my favorite. I was excited to see that you were doing it, and then extra excited that you showed me suggesting it to you! Hell yeah!
That intro and song!... I've seen them twice live in Costa Rica, amazing concerts and great memories Hallowed by thy name, The Clairvoyant, The Number of the Beast, Wasted Years...
Watching this from a live performance adds so much to this song, hearing 100,000 Maiden fans singing this song with Bruce takes it to a whole other level.
That was Churchill indeed and the song is about British Spitfire interceptor pilots in WW2 who would risk their lives defending Britain from German air raids. As far as I know the British Spitfire became a symbol of fighting spirit and resistance during the time. Pilots with a certain number of confirmed kills would be called Aces and the song pretty much describes their lives at the time.
Churchill nope. The words are his but the speech is Norman Shelley. www.theguardian.com/media/2000/oct/29/uknews.theobserver www.powell-pressburger.org/Reviews/Shelley/Shelley01.html
Not just Spitfires, don't forget the Hurricane. The Hurricane accounted for two thirds of the kills but for some reason always gets ignored. Slower than the Spitfire but easier to fly for a novice pilot and a more stable gun platform it was the mainstay of the RAF.
@@sorrysorry1877 the spitfire was slightly faster than the mustang, look it up, both had Rolls Royce engines, anyway he only mentioned about the hurricane being a slower aircraft, both aircraft played a pinnacle role in Battle of Britain and took air superiority from the Germans even though the British planes were way outnumbered, Mustang came shortly after Battle of Britain so wasn’t in it. Sorry about long explanation just needed to be put in context.
@@sorrysorry1877 The Me262 was the fastest plane. If you don't count the rocket plane tge Nazis developed as a high level interceptor. Generally not counted as it was a rocket craft; not a 'plane, per se.

One of my favorite Iron Maiden songs is "The Evil that Men do", It's awesome! And after that you type in After Forever - The Evil that Men do (Iron Maiden cover) and you get to hear and see Floor Jansen sing it 😀
I met them all early in there career in a rock club . They where just sat at edge of stage having a beer and a chat asking us did we enjoy the show . They where great but little did we know how great they would become 🤘
Powerslave was the first LP I bought with my own hard earned money. Absolutely love this song Have not looked back since....... now it's time for some more Band Maid!!
The "life after death" album is ALL epic. Not a bad song in the whole album, all live too. Greatest band of all time with Bruce dickinson absolutely phenomenal voice!!
Iron Maiden and Motorhead were contemporaries/peers, and had great respect for each other. Game recognizes game. And both were hugely influential on the rock/metal scene of the 70s/80s/90s/today. Shit, later metal acts like "Metallica" and "Megadeth" were basically Iron Maiden + Motorhead with some input from the "punk" scene.
Probably my fave Maiden. Love that fret-work! ...but still "Somewhere in time" is my favourite album. "Caught somewhere in time"... not as strong opener as "Aces high", but very good. "Wasted years", "stranger...", "Alexander..."...
Great song. The ww2 pilots diced with death on a daily basis , bringing out their basic instincts to kill and not be killed. Once done, they would count their missing friends and then enjoy a delightful cup of tea ! Shout out to those brave pilots which included men from the Indian Sikhs, Canada, West Indies and Australia!
