    I have never had a chiggar, flea, tick bite me in Katy - ever. My community sprays though so that may be why. You can't really stop mosquitos, but the spraying helps. Now if you go to the north side of Houston and other areas (like a state park) you may encounter these other bugs.
    Katy is okay for food. I think the last 3 years I finally haven't had to drive into Houston for a good restaurant. Seriously, most of the restaurants are just a tiny step up from McDonalds.
    I'm not sure how you can say Cinco Ranch isn't in a high risk flood area when it flooded in Harvey. I guess that's not "high" risk, but with the extra development approved by the county inside of the Addicks reservoir there will be more flooding in Cinco Ranch.

    Galveston is a good 50 miles from Katy.
    As far as the bugs go? They're not a problem in Cinco Ranch because they spray on a regular basis. I can go all summer and count the mosquitoes bites on one hand.
    Another point..I know you cant list every Katy area restaurant but there are a shitload of them,Orleans is a Cajun place that kicks ass.

    So planning on moving there and selling my house in Houma, Louisiana by 2024 if not sooner. We’re looking at Katy, Texas heavily. A local may know better, I’m wondering if there would be any cities a little more rural that’s still close to everything?

      I"m not a realtor, but we moved to Katy last year. We have some pros and cons that apply to your question. We moved to TX to be near son and grandkids. They live in Richmond in Harvest Green. It's a very very nice community. Now the issue with that is the cost. We could not afford to live in Richmond. Nor in Sugar Land. So we looked at Katy. It was close to HWY 99, which was also close to son's home. So there's a HWY that connects us for fairly fast travel. We ended up in North Katy almost Cypress. In an older neighborhood where we could still get a less expensive home and taxes. There are a LOT of building going on here and all the homes are more then we paid for our 1800 sq ft home. However, most of them are less expensive then Richmond. So you might want to look into Cypress off 99 and west of 99. Good Luck

    Still looking for those good restaurants. Sure you are right there are a lot of restaurants, but very few are worth returning to. Also the grocery stores are very basic. Only one whole foods and it's not a very big one, one Trader Joes for miles and miles. Kroger and HEB are pretty much it and most of them are old and lack variety. HEB's especially are always extremely crowded. There's always WalMart and they seem to be on every corner. But as can be expected merchandise, customer service and over all shopping experiece is very poor. Traffic on the freeways is a breeze if you can use them to get where you need to go. Otherwise surface streets are extremely congested and drivers have an issue of understanding that when the light is green you GO. Most left hand turn lanes you are going to wait 2 to 3 cycles before getting through. Issue tickets for running red lights and using cells phones would be a start. Weather has been pretty tough this year. After last year/summer I thought "OK, I can handle this", however this spring summer all we've seen for two month are temperatures at or near 100 degrees. If this year is more the typical, I got to get out of here. After a year in Katy what do I like? 1. We could afford to buy a home 2. people are friendly 3. Utilities are pretty reasonable. As a new transplant to Katy and the Houston area what would have been really helpful was an honest guide to how to move in. Where to get your Car Registrations and by what deadline, Where to get your license, whatever is the homestead exemption?? Where to get Federal tax assistance. General rules for gunfire and fireworks because they seem to have no registration/limits or boundaries. The healthcare system has been fairly easy to navigate so far.

    • @melissas4874
      @melissas4874 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trader Joes is just junk food and not a grocery store. It's where people shop who don't know how to cook or because it's trendy. It's not a grocery store.
      The weather in TX is always this rough LMAO. Maybe you should have researched this first? I would never move to another state or region without know what I was getting into. And if this is your first year here? Did you even research hurricanes?
      Most of the questions you ask are a simple google search away. The fireworks stuff though is based on the HOA sometimes, but only Houston city limits has limitations or bans on fireworks.
      And you can't just "go" when the light turns green - as you say, the running of red lights is an issue and nobody wants to be hit by someone running a red light.

    • @Atochabsh
      @Atochabsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melissas4874 Green does mean GO. Doesn't mean sit on your cell phone until you're ready or I honk at you. Red lights are an issue you admit. In CA it's $1000 fine for running a red light. Maybe Texas should try that. I did plenty of research prior to moving. And I grew up in New England so I'm very familiar with hurricanes. The heat is the heat, but if this was normal why are all the news stations commenting on the heat wave streak and lack of rain we've had since May?

    Your data is a little dated. Katy has 8 high schools. Double that in Jr Highs, and a ton of elementary schools. Yeah there a bugs but who doesn't have them in Houston. You need to mention the price of housing. Katy has new homes from the $200,000 to over a couple of Million. Better pick fast. California transplants are buying them up quickly. By the way, if you can't find a job in Katy/Houston, you're not looking or you are head strong on waiting for that management position.
    Property taxes are high in TX, and Katy is no exception. If you are retired the Rate doesn't go up but lookout for the valuation. Another year or two, I'm out of here. Foley AL looks good to me. But if I do go, I may be looking for a one bedroom efficiency with a one car carport. If you get my drift. My wife will never leave Katy.
