We find out in the Sarah Jane Adventures that the 10th doctor actually looked in on the lives of every past companion right before regenerating, not just the ones we saw here. I found that really touching.
Seen this episode a million times since it originally aired and the ending with the song and the doctor saying I don’t wanna go still gets me every time
In my mind that line was ad-libbed, though I know it wasn't, but I want to believe that Tennant had changed his mind last minute and didn't want to go...
also the Jeffrey Noble part. That’s Donna’s father, he appeared in the runaway bride briefly but the actor playing him died. So instead of replacing him with a different actor, they established that Donna’s father died in the show as well and replaced the ‘father figure’ role in Donna’s storyline with Wilf. So the scene at the wedding was a nice tribute to the real life actor and Sylvie’s deceased ‘husband’ in universe. A really lovely ending to the Doctor and Sylvies love/hate relationship.
What they did there, with making Wilf (who was just a background character at first) her grandfather after the actor who played Donna's father passed away was (and still is), one of the best ideas that I've seen in film and TV. They could've gone for the simple method(s) of recasting or entirely writing out that kind of character for Donna but they didn't do that and it was fantastic because of it, in both serving the story better but also paying great respect to him
And to clarify even further, because it was Geoffrey Noble who gave the quid the Doctor used to buy the lottery ticket, it was Donna's dad's final gift to her. The script also clarified Donna and Shaun work with a lot of charities and their money would in part being going to those.
They shot the hilltop scenes from "Partners in Crime" with the original actor who appeared in "Runaway Bride" but in the intervening time between the two episodes cancer had grabbed him. They had no idea how ill he was until he showed up on set to shoot the stuff on the hillside and he dropped off the twig soon after. They included some footage on the original DVD release. Poor guy does look not long for this world. :( As others have said, they knew they would need Donna's dad or someone like that for later in the season and they had just worked with Bernard Cribbins in "Voyage of the Damned" and adjusted their plans and massaged a few things so that he could come back and play Donna's grandad. RTD and Moffat after him were phenomenally smart about planning extensively and meticulously while also staying loose enough to take advantage of neat actors they stumbled across or new ideas that occurred as production went on.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: I f****ng love the fact that you don't try to be all "I won't cry on camera" when you're really feeling something. For me series 5 is very special, certainly the one I rewatch the most. I hope you'll love it too.

That Geoffrey Noble thing always gets me, too. To make what could have been a very impersonal gift (a lottery ticket) that much more special and personal, he bought the ticket off of Donna's late father, Sylvia's late husband. That's why she reacted that way. It's such a lovely touch that RTD was sooooo good at. I miss those little touches. One other nice little touch is that the brick wall he's leaning against when he visits Rose is exactly where he landed the TARDIS in his very first episode, The Christmas Invasion. It all came full circle.

I think at 5:04 the point is that he's not conflicted at all, he's furious that after everything he's done, all the people he's saved it all converges on a point in which he HAS to die because as soon as he heard that knock he knew there was no way he could ever let Wilfred die, so in effect he literally cannot escape this ending. Even though he could as he states 'do so much more!'

Tennant, for me, is the absolute best Doctor there has ever been. I haven't watched Classic Who, but for me David Tennant didn't have 1 single bad performance. He didn't even underperform by his own standards. Even in the worst episodes of the worst such as Fear Her that most people regard as bad, Tennant doesn't miss a beat. He'll always be my Doctor. One of the most emotional reactions to this part of The End of Time I've seen yet. You're right. Tennant had a great run. It's good that he had the opportunity to go out on a high note.

5:05 what i love about this comment is, he's not conflicted. not even slightly. He's trying his best to be conflicted. The whole rant was him trying to convince himself to just walk out and leave him. but he and we both know better, and even he realises it wont work. This is where he dies, and he accepts it. Alone, no one to comfort or impress, The Doctor shows his true feelings as he dies and says "I don't wanna go" truely heart breaking and beautiful
How the Doctor says to Wilfred “you were always this, waiting for me all this time”. You can see how destroyed he is. All his fear about the ‘end’, how it is probably the Master or the Time-lords, he’s going to get killed. But it was just Wilf, always Wilf, waiting for him all this time. Devastating.
It is whoever you want it to be however I have personally met Russel T Davies a few years ago and he told me he wrote it to be his mother ( I think he said it in his book the writers tale too). He told me that his inspiration for writing was "When your at your end of your life who would you want to see to guide you?" That's who he intended it to be but it's deliberately ambiguous and it can be whoever you want it to be. Honestly that day the man was a saint & a joy to meet, he was just there to have an interview on stage but he stayed more than a hour after talking to fans. So long in fact that Steven Moffat got wind of it and he turned up and said "What's going on here then?" (There was an interview with Doc 12 and Moffat about 45 mins later) It was all in good fun! 😁
@@revolg9 Because that's one less ally of the Doctor living with them. Furthermore she didn't have a set of regenerations. She was considered lower class. How would she have made it into the High Counsel of Gallifrey?
The singing voice of the Ood is Mark Chambers, whose voice is so hauntingly beautiful and perfect for this send off of Ten. The last song you hear is Vale Decem which is Latin for Farewell Ten 😢
I remember watching the excellent Manly Tears during the ill fated reunion of the Doctor and Rose at the end of Stolen Earth. I wondered what impact "The End of Time" finale montage would be, and I was not disappointed. Massively grateful for the fresh look at Tennant's run.
I felt so bad for the Master. His own people were the ones who made him crazy. That's just not right y'all. 👎👎 Oh before I forget, the average run for a Doctor is 3 years. Eccleston's run was not the norm.
Come to think of it, the Master could almost be an allegory for American Vietnam vets. He was made what he is by his "nation", who then looked down on him with contempt and sought to discard him after they were done with him.
This episode kicked my damn arse the first time I watched it, I was a mess by the end of it. It still manages to choke me up from time to time when I rewatch it or watch someone react to it.

Yes, she did. She says at the end of an episode where 9 was having trouble, that she remembered him in that entire encounter, but we only hear the beginning of it. It also explains why Rose fell in love with 10, and her refusal to stay in the parallel dimension. Because she fondly remembered that encounter, but did not realize that it was the Doctor, until she saw him regenerate from 9.
Team Theme wha? You mean when Ten regenerated, or when Nine regenerated _into_ Ten? The first is from The End Of Time, and the second is from the season 1 finale.
Saw this when it came out, cry every single time I re-watch it and when I watch it with friends it never seizes to fail where they are Dumbledore and I Snape. “After all this time?” “Always,”
A trio of references in Jack's scene that you seemed to miss. 1. The humans covered in Red and White were patients at the hospital on New Earth. 2. 'Alonso' is midshipman Alonso Frame from Voyage Of The Damned. 3. The song playing in the background is My Angel Put The Devil In Me, the song Tallulah sings in her stage show in Daleks In Manhattan.
I remember when I finished this episode I was so ready to never watch the show again, because Tennant was my Doctor, but I really liked Matt Smiths Doctor. A very very different doctor and writer who both set a very different tone to the show, but he’s now one of my favourite doctors.
So this may have already been mentioned, but the moment with Jack takes place right after Children of Earth (Torchwood). This is the Doctor forgiving Jack for what he did.
@@johnking5174 why would he be so emotional then toward the end of his life? Why would he lie about his age, yet keep it consistent. Also, I’m 99% sure that RTD confirmed that the 10th Doctor only lived for a short amount of time. Also, the “Rule 1, The Doctor lies” mainly was towards the 11th Doctor’s incarnation but even if it wasn’t The Doctor may not always be lying especially in this case where he has no reason to.
@@bcwgames1083 It is a sci fi show. People can make their doctor into anything. If you want him to have just lived from December 25th 2005 until Jan 1st 2010, that is up to you. I believe he had more fun. It is a sci fi. Not to be taken too seriously.

20:50. Ironically, when the episode was new, Rose & Jackie, looked older than they should, for that stated date, because time had passed. But now, even after more time has gone by, by comparison, they still look young enough. Better then when they tried to pass off, Deanna & Will, as being younger again, in the series finale of, "Star Trek: Enterprise". So, bravo to the cosmetics and hair teams, for helping the cast look their best, continuity-wise! 😎
What a lot of people missed because of the emotional sendoff the tenant, is the fact that Matt Smith (the 11th) had to do his first seen as a monologue on his own in a burning said, not bad for a 27-year-old actor

I like that when 11 appeared on the Sarah jane adventures, they made it canon that he went back and checked in on EVERY companion he'd ever had not just 10s
The four knocks that had been in the Master's head since season 3 culminated in that twist of Wilfred's knocking on the glass door. You would thin that the two part crossover finale of season four was special enough, but the tenth doctor visiting his friends one last time was a special moment.

In my opinion, this was the saddest new who regeneration, kinda fitting seeing as he was the most dramatic (in a good way) New doctor.
Completely on his own in the end as well
I won't accept it. He wasn't able to feel happiness at least in his last seconds
The Ood song never fails to make me cry, such a moving piece of music - Murray Gold is truly a genius
Always have and always will love Ten. God bless David Tennant.
I 💗💗 Tennant!!!!! His departure hits me in the feels every time I watch it. There's some really good stuff coming up in the seasons that follow too of course, but Tennant will always be my Doctor.
10 will forever be my Doctor! But as the Ood said, this song may have ended, but the story never ends.
Fully agree. 10 is my Doctor & will be forever but a song has to end at some point :-(
It should have ended here that way we can look back at how good the show was. Moffat ruined it by the next episode
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144
i disagree, i think the moffat era is so much better than the RTD era
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 No. While Moffat had a... fluctuating accuracy... when it came to hitting the target for Who episodes, but the next episode (The Eleventh Hour) was not one of them. Plus, we got an Empty Child, and the absolute masterpiece that is Heaven Sent.
The doctors story will never end I'm certain the world will revolt if it does
One of the most emotional reactions to this part of The End of Time I've seen yet. You're right. Tennant had a great run. It's good that he had the opportunity to go out on a high note.
You are going to love Matt he is cool. He is a old man in a young body. Love your reactions. Keep going more tears to come.
I thought I disliked Matt Smith. Then I realised it was the Ponds. They’re so ungrateful and always blaming him for something 😂
@@davidm7847 the ponds are the reson i enjoyed 11's run as much as i did. their family dynamic is honestly one of t he most touching relationships in the show, for me at least
Damn nearly 10 years later and I still absolutely sob my eyes out
5:05 what i love about this comment is, he's not conflicted. not even slightly. He's trying his best to be conflicted. The whole rant was him trying to convince himself to just walk out and leave him. but he and we both know better, and even he realises it wont work. This is where he dies, and he accepts it. Alone, no one to comfort or impress, The Doctor shows his true feelings as he dies and says
"I don't wanna go"
truely heart breaking and beautiful
I still wonder about rose and tentoo
You're thinking of the Lone Ranger and Tonto.
@@ajivins1 nah he means ten 2
@@FlamingoSundew pretty sure he knew that lmao
How the Doctor says to Wilfred “you were always this, waiting for me all this time”. You can see how destroyed he is. All his fear about the ‘end’, how it is probably the Master or the Time-lords, he’s going to get killed. But it was just Wilf, always Wilf, waiting for him all this time. Devastating.
" This song is ending, but the story never ends" 😢😭 always makes me cry that part 😢
18:40 I've seen this scene several dozen times and this is the first time I noticed Matt Smith spitting everywhere😂😂😂
The popular theory about the Time Lady is that she was his mother.
My favorite theory is she's Susan the Granddaughter
@@revolg9 how did she get back to Gallifrey?
@@christianschoff2490 She could of been taken back by another time lord at any time. Why would they let her stay?
@@revolg9 Because that's one less ally of the Doctor living with them. Furthermore she didn't have a set of regenerations. She was considered lower class. How would she have made it into the High Counsel of Gallifrey?

Goodbye to the best doctor.
The singing voice of the Ood is Mark Chambers, whose voice is so hauntingly beautiful and perfect for this send off of Ten. The last song you hear is Vale Decem which is Latin for Farewell Ten 😢
1:15 I never noticed that the Doctor's mother signaled to The Doctor (with her eyes) what he should do next.
Oh before I forget, the average run for a Doctor is 3 years. Eccleston's run was not the norm.
don't tell him that. now he'll know what to expect, take this comment down
It's not real, Amy.
@@Ben-ky8yb It's not real? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Come to think of it, the Master could almost be an allegory for American Vietnam vets. He was made what he is by his "nation", who then looked down on him with contempt and sought to discard him after they were done with him.
Apparently Eccleston left because he had issues with the way the production team were doing things
This episode kicked my damn arse the first time I watched it, I was a mess by the end of it.
It still manages to choke me up from time to time when I rewatch it or watch someone react to it.
RIP Bernard Cribbins.
Came here to see Whales reaction to Wilf at the end again and I’m now emotional as hell.

when is the eleventh hour coming out? im so excited to see your reaction
Series 7.........
Your getting close to the 50th anniversary celebrations ,and your going to love it........
By the way ,really enjoy your reactions keep up the good work. 🙂
You cannot watch Tennant’s farewell w/o shedding tears.
It is not only Tennant’s farewell but Davies’ As well as Moffat takes over as head writer.
Such an emotional episode, still gets me after all these years
You ever think Rose remembered that face when the Ninth regenerated?
I was just thinking that. I hope so!
Didn't see him properly
Yes, she did. She says at the end of an episode where 9 was having trouble, that she remembered him in that entire encounter, but we only hear the beginning of it. It also explains why Rose fell in love with 10, and her refusal to stay in the parallel dimension. Because she fondly remembered that encounter, but did not realize that it was the Doctor, until she saw him regenerate from 9.
Can you name the episode plz
Team Theme wha? You mean when Ten regenerated, or when Nine regenerated _into_ Ten? The first is from The End Of Time, and the second is from the season 1 finale.
Saw this when it came out, cry every single time I re-watch it and when I watch it with friends it never seizes to fail where they are Dumbledore and I Snape.
“After all this time?”
“Always,”
A trio of references in Jack's scene that you seemed to miss. 1. The humans covered in Red and White were patients at the hospital on New Earth. 2. 'Alonso' is midshipman Alonso Frame from Voyage Of The Damned. 3. The song playing in the background is My Angel Put The Devil In Me, the song Tallulah sings in her stage show in Daleks In Manhattan.
The best 10 minutes of any TV show ever. Cant ever stop coming back here to cry again.
I've been waiting for ages for you to see the Wilf crying meme 😂😂😂
Its even sadder when you realize that this incarnation only lived for 6 years, compared to the others who lived hundreds to thousands of years.
Really, do we really know that? Remember what River says, the doctor lies. Time means nothing to him.
@@johnking5174 :/
Yesss my guy you've actually watched this show with a great open mind, I haven't really seen anyone else on TH-cam whose analysed all the aspects a shows previous seasons and giving their opinion, great video :)
waited for 2 years to say this. I find it funny how the Master stood with the Doctor here, yet later when he meets Missy and Capaldi, will state "I will NEVER stand with the Doctor!" Bitch you just did here!
19:09. It was an honor to shed tears too as you did. This episode always gets to me. Thanks. 😎
stupendous reaction worthy of this classic episode, well done son
Only three men have ever saluted the Doctor with respect: Lethbridge-Stewart, Benton, and Mott.
And Jack .... You just saw it!
@@MANB91UK I think that was more lust.
What a lot of people missed because of the emotional sendoff the tenant, is the fact that Matt Smith (the 11th) had to do his first seen as a monologue on his own in a burning said, not bad for a 27-year-old actor
when wilfred cries, we all cry
Wilf, the best companion! And the meme heard round the world!!
And so an era ends and as my childhood Doctor leaves my teen years doctor begins
10th doctor: "I don't want to go."
11th doctor: *clusterfuck*
It’s amazing watching your love and enthusiasm for the show grow across the seasons, I remember when you started watching and weren’t as into it so watching the progression now is crazy haha, I’m reliving my favorite show and all the emotions that came with it through your reactions and it really reminds me of those good times so thank you so much :)
Aaaaaand I sobbed along with you! Watching that ending never gets any easier! David Tennant will always be my Doctor.
I watched your FL for this a few months ago on Patreon. It’s nice to finally see this on TH-cam. Man what an emotionally wild end to a rollercoaster of an era. My favourite. I love how emotional you got here. :D
have you seen his reactions to any matt smith episodes?
eleven Yeah I’ve seen his Series 5 and 6 reactions. He’s currently on Series 7 now.
Once you’ve watched Torchwood we’ll give you context for that scene with Jack in the bar. Also the Doctor organizing a gay hook up for Jack is just so crazy I can’t deal 😭😭😂
No matter how many times I watch it, "I don't wanna go" sets off the waterworks no matter how much I try to fight it.
The ending to this always brings a tear to my eyes. The last 10~15 minutes or so, is extremely emotional, especially the Doctor's goodbye to Wilf and family.
Loved watching this. To watch your enjoyment of the show increase over the last few series has been brilliant. What an amazing Doctor David was and what a great show it is. I look forward to seeing what you think of 11th doctor. Let's go!
Tenth Doctor's last words: "I don't want to go".
i havent seen this episode in like 3 years and im already tearing up, not even 5 minutes in
My freaking eyes. Endgame was less than a week ago man.
Still kicks me in the feels.
I've never had a favourite doctor as I think they all brought their own flavour to the roll, but this ending rounded his time as the doctor perfectly.
I was in abslouty in tears when David Tennant left . He was my first doctor when I started to watch Doctorwho I was so happy for to be my first doctor
Oh thank goodness, I was worried you would upload this later
How the fuck can you be confused by a timelord sacrificing himself to then regenerate
I’ve watched this episode so many times and I still can’t watch it without crying!!!
Welcome, 11. Vale, Decem.
The ood are singing 'goodbye 10, we will miss you'
This finale never fails to make me sob in a way no other media ever made has.
He was and still is my favourite doctor..it was sad to see him leave ..I cried when he regenerated..:(
I so remember watching this with my son , I was a blubbering mess by the end …..” I don’t want to go “ ❤️
