    Found this in the owners manual:
    Disabling Keyless Unlocking:
    With the vehicle off, press and hold [LOCK] and [UNLOCK] on the RKE [REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY] transmitter at the same time for approximately three seconds. The turn signal lamps will flash four times quickly to indicate access is disabled. Using any exterior handle to unlock the doors or open the liftgate will cause the turn signal lamps to flash four times quickly, indicating access is disabled. If disabled, disarm the alarm system before starting the vehicle.
    Enabling Keyless Unlocking:
    With the vehicle off, press and hold [LOCK] and [UNLOCK] on the RKE transmitter at the same time for approximately three seconds. The turn signal lamps will flash twice quickly to indicate access is enabled.

    I'm going on my 11th year with my Nissan Leaf (bought new for around $25.6k with all the rebates). I bought it because being retired and only doing short trips it is all I need (Long Trips - I take my Harley). Maintenance-wise EVs can't be beat if you take care of them (my total maintenance cost over all is less than $500, incl. a flat tire replacement). Batteries still give me around a mid-70s range from the original 105 mile range, because despite being passive cooling if you never keep the vehicle fully charge for long periods of time and garaged, the batteries last. I expect to get another 5-10 more years from the original batteries.

      Same here. Bought my Leaf SL new in 2011. Now has 40,500 miles on it. Battery capacity is down to 5 bars. I can drive only 30-40 miles on a full charge. Car always garaged and in a moderate climate. Nissan recently quoted me $13,500 to replace the battery. No way. I never got 100 miles on a full charge when it was new. 80-85 at most. This Bolt EUV looks like a good replacement for my falling Leaf.

    • @madmotorcyclist

      @@wmalden My Leaf has one third your miles and I still can fully charge and can make about 70 mile range. I kept my battery happy by never leaving it fully charged for long periods of time (usually and hour or two) and it was garaged. Just recently the only high cost maintenance item that hit me was a water pump going out. I expect to get several more years out of the car.

    Good review of your Bolt EUV. I was an early adopter with a 2017 Bolt EV Premier and it has been the best car I have ever owned. I haven't had any quality issues, especially like the ones you mentioned. I absolutely love the rearview mirror video and one pedal driving. I do wish it had adaptive cruise control, but not a big deal. I also wish it had an option for all wheel drive for Utah winters, but with front wheel drive, it performs as well or better than any other 2 wheel drive vehicle. I like the looks of the EUV better and wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I needed another vehicle. I get about 300 miles of range in summer and 200 miles in winter if fully charged, though I typically only charge to 90% to reduce wear on battery.

    • @Kimmer
      @Kimmer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@robertfaulkner7152 The EPA rating is based on average use including city and highway driving as well as winter and summer driving. It's actually a pretty good estimate as a yearly average. However, my drive to work, for example, doesn't require me to get on the freeway where I typically would drive 70 to 80 mph. I go on roads with speed limits between 30 and 55 mph which greatly improves the efficiency of electric cars. So, in the summer, I get over 300 miles of range typically when it's warmer. The cold decreases battery efficiency and I only get around 200 to 230 miles range in the cold winter months in Utah driving to work. We often drive however on freeways when going to events on weekends which decreases the potential range. So, overall, the EPA range is a good estimate of what to expect with normal driving throughout the year, but it can vary a lot depending on driving technique, temperature, and speed. By the way, these ranges were with the older battery, so I expect a little better this summer with my new improved battery.

      You do know your electric vehicle is worse than a gas? The vehicle has more poisonous material in it than any gas vehicle.. Your batteries are so poisonous we have no means to dispose of them. On top of that in about another 4 to 6 years you're going to have to replace those batteries. It will cost you the same as the vehicle. Worst of all, they have to mine 10x more area just to get the rear Earth materials to build your car.

    Thanks for the review! I ordered my Bolt EUV last week (no estimated arrival time) and going to trade in my 2015 Sonic LT. The Sonic has 130k miles on it, and unfortunately starting to get regular repairs and maintenance done. I figured I should put that $1000/month toward a car I’ve been wanting for the last few years instead of keeping this car running. The dealership already had the car ordered, last week was the last day they could customize it. They have no idea when it will be built and when it will arrive, but they assured me it wouldn’t be canceled because of the discontinuation later this year.
    A lot of the negatives you brought up are just little things that I sort of gotten used to with Chevy over the years. A minor thing breaking here or there, or whatever. My old Cavalier had a lot of these issues too.
    I take the best care of my Sonic as I can, you’d think it’s brand new just by looking at it, inside and out. Thankfully, I can (hopefully) charge at home. My garage is all set up, but I still need the electrician to come out and make sure an install can actually happen, my breaker is in the basement, so I hope it doesn’t go too far over what Chevy is willing to cover.
    My Cavalier lasted my 9 years, my Sonic just hit 5 a month ago. Ideally, I’d love the Bolt EUV to last me ten years. This is the first car I’m buying brand new. Any used car I was looking at was over $20k, so I might as well get a new car.

    Leased my 2022 Bolt EUV Premier about 5 weeks after you got yours. Currently have 5491 miles on it. Definitely recommend the adaptive cruise control, will never own another car without it. Also will never have another ICE car! After 11 months of driving, I'm averaging 4.8 miles per kWh. Charging to 80% gives me an estimated range of 233 miles. Most of my driving is around town, resulting in an average of 5.0-5.2 miles per kWh. Until a recent 2200 mile trip, I had a lifetime average of 5.0 miles per kWh (at 3200 miles on the car). During my road trip, the car only averaged 4.5 miles per kWh. Back when I could still charge to 100%, I was seeing an estimated range of 320 miles (the range estimate proved to be quite accurate). I found the leather seats to be very comfortable throughout a day of driving. Enjoyed having the ventilated seats, very cooling when it was hot out. So far I haven't noticed any of the problems that you brought up (keeping my fingers crossed - LOL). Thank you for a very informative video, looking forward to watching your follow-up video.

      @@stefanbololoi7110 I am not an expert on car suspension systems but I didn't notice the Bolt EUV being too soft or bouncy compared to other cars I've owned over the last 60 years. Granted, I'm primarily a Chevy man, I've had a few Buicks and a Cadillac that I wasn't impressed with compared to the Chevys of the same era. The Bolt EUV is a nice solid car. I will say that it is much more of a daily driver for around town use compared to taking it on long trips. Not because of the ride but because of the slow charge rate (even using DCFC chargers) and the lower range you get during expressway driving (not much chance to use the regen feature on an expressway). I did accumulate about 340 extra miles from the regen during my 2244 mile trip but I can consistently get about 50 miles of additional distance around town during 200 miles of driving (same rate on the trip would have added over 500 miles of free regen mileage).

    I have the 2022 premier edition and I just put on 20k. This has been an awesome purchase as gas prices soar. My only issue is that the supercrusie stopped working around Thanksgiving or about 6 months ago. The dealership is trying to fix it but is waiting on a cable that is now on two months; I didn't really miss supercruise driving in the snow. GM dealers need to get their staff trained as this is the future. However, it seems they are selling a product that if best a dozen people in the entire state knows how it works. Hopeful to get if fixed before I get the new battery.

Did you routinely exhaust that range? Obviously savings are directly related to the price at pump and miles driven. So I am looking for the specifics when I asked one of the posters in this thread.

    Good Video. If i was to get the car it would be the LT2. Shocked with all the little issues you have not taken it back under warrantee and had them correct. It would be great to hear how GM took care of the issues and if the repaired parts hold up or still break over time. I also suggest signing up for a Bolt users forum. lots of cool information there and Im sure you will get the answer to the lock question. Again thanks for the Video, and get the stuff that does not work corrected for free under warranty. Then do another video on how that experience was and did they fix it or does it still break. Also How many real miles are you getting and real charge times and how many miles do you get. Real information for us. Again Thanks, use to own a Volt close to going Bolt.

    Thank you for such an eloquent and informative video!!! I have a question for your next one: How does using the regenerative braking feature(s) impact your battery range? You said you drive exclusively in one-pedal, but it sounds like you’re having to charge every night. Do you just drive a LOT each day or does the regen braking not charge the battery much? I’ve driven a friend’s Prius and the battery would typically charge itself fully over maybe a 30 minute ride. Though this is obviously a different system, I was hoping the Bolt would be similar.

    • @chmd22
      @chmd22 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Regen braking can only recover a portion of the car’s kinetic energy. It can’t put back in more (or even the same) energy than what was used to accelerate the car in the first place. It greatly improves overall efficiency, but does not create energy from thin air. Your friend’s Prius was recharged by the gas engine (directly or via regen), which the Bolt obviously lacks.

    Great presentation! We moved out in the country and I now have a 65 mile round trip drive. I must have a truck as we have yardwork and I also need 4 wheel drive since we live on a hill and travel over other hills in the winter. I'll keep my 2012 F150 4x4 because I need it. Since gas hit 5.00 per gallon at 17 miles per gallon it's costing me over 570.00 per month in fuel!!! The Bolt is a perfect commuter car. With electricity at 0.11 cents where I live I go from spending 570.00 per month driving the truck to roughly 50.00 per month with the Bolt. That is huge savings! I test drove the Bolt yesterday and loved it. I'm going back today to place my order for a 23' model.

    I've had mine for about 8 months now. I live in a condo, so keeping the charge is the worst. With only 80% and don't go below 70 mile range, I only get about 130 mile range per charge. As well, the battery bleeds energy. My 16 mile commute, it'll bleed 3-5miles each way (6-10 round trip/per day), so I'm charging at public chargers several times a week. The fast chargers in my state charge by the minute, and have incentives to throttle my charge back to make me sit there for hours. Chevy never offered me a home install anyway, never responded to my inqueries, but I live in a condo in the DC metro area, shouldn't be this hard to find a good charger.
    Your comments about the chrager input mechanism malfunctioning is spot on, except it happens to me at least once or twice a week. Then I have to jump back in the car and hope the next station over is available so I can try it there.
    I'm in the last steps of getting Chevy to buy back my Bolt. That being said, I have no other real complaints, if you have a garage and a home charger, that's where all EVs really make their money, and with the Bolt EUV being among the best economy models in the EV community, it is a great commuter car.
    However, if you are an adventurer or in a job that requires a lot of roadtrips, EVs is not for you. Public stations just are not at the critical mass needed to support travelers across the country. Even in metro areas like DC, it is still surprisingly difficult to find a fast charger readily available. Terribly inconvenient if you travel to smaller or more rural communities. You'd really have to plan your route and trip very carefully.
    I'm gunna head into the hybrid community and hope that the EV charging infrastructure improves in the next 3-5 years.
    You might say that it is my fault for not living in a standalone home where I can home charge, and that isn't a terrible criticism. But it is am extremely privileged one when you look at the economic landscape of the generations getting worse and worse. In the coming years, young professionals in their late 20s and beyond (who would be buying new economy cars) will be living in standalone homes less and less unless something drastically changes in the housing market to transport is back to the at least the late 80s/90s.
    Long rant about charging an EV, but these are factors that need be considered when purchasing an EV. If you live in a house with a garage, you'll be just fine.

      @leonardwright2835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jesse, You have made some very spot on comments. "Public stations just are not at the critical mass needed to support travelers across the country." "You'd really have to plan your route and trip very carefully." Unfortunately we are in the Model "T" era for EV's. I guess that's what we get for being "early adopters" of EV's. It's possible to do cross country travel in an EV but it does take route planning and patience. The current charging infrastructure isn't designed for travel. Some charge by the minute (the majority of the chargers I used) and others charge by the kWh. Personally I feel the only fair way to charge is by the kW, especially since the Bolt can only accept 50-55 kW even when the charger is capable of supplying 350 kW. I understand your need to switch to a hybrid, hopefully you will be able to transition back to a pure EV within the next 5 years.

    • @jessemanchester8549
      @jessemanchester8549 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@leonardwright2835 here's to hoping. But hopefully my comments reflect that travel is the LEAST of my concerns. Chief among them is to have the avertised range (250mi) available to me for my daily commute at minimum. Which isn't the case. And GM doesn't have a timeline when they will get around to replacing the 2022 batteries.

    • @bbcooter388
      @bbcooter388 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leonardwright2835 the reason some chargers charge by the minute versus by the kilowatt hour has to do with the laws in different states. Some states have laws that prevent anybody except the utility companies from selling electricity (basically by the kwh), consequently, the DC Fast Chargers need some alternate method to charge for their service.

    15:43 Most of the complaints about the seats are hold overs from the 2017 Bolt EV's seats, which were narrower, firmer, and had a lot less padding. However, the seats have been modified several times over the years, and the seats in the 2022 Bolt EV/EUV are actually the 3rd or 4th generation seats. I'd be surprised if most of the people still complaining about the seats have even sat in the 2019 Bolt EV, let alone the 2022.
    While I don't know that I personally agree, I gave someone a ride in both the 2022 Bolt EV 2LT (perforated leather seats) and the KIA EV6, and according to them, the Bolt EV's seats were "much more comfortable." To me, they were about the same, so I think that might have been due to seating position. Either way, it's a good example of how far the Bolt EV's seats have come in terms of comfort.

Regen is your best friend, can substantially increase your range. Learning how to use one pedal driving and the regen paddle by the steering wheel is essential for best mileage. Personally I seldom use the brakes, just try to maintain a safe distance behind the car in front of me and let regen and use the paddle to come to a full stop.

It happens to him with stations that have really heavy, stiff cables and it does it almost never if he's got some way to support the cable for the moment when the charger activation actually happens. Sometimes he can just reach over and lift up on the handle slightly from in front of the screen, sometimes it means he has to use app activation instead of the screen itself, but it makes the whole issue go away.

    I have a few questions and one piece of advice. Advice first..when they fix the rear hatch panel, I recommend telling them to first dab some new paint in the holes where the tangs kept pulling out. This will help reseal possible bare metal from the friction of the tangs pulling out, depending on how often you had to reseat the panel. If it wore the factory paint off, that's the first place rust will start to corrode if you drive on salted roads in winter or live downwind from coastal sea air. Especially on a rear hatch area where rust is usually the hardest to fend off.
    How quiet is it at 70 mph on the highway in terms of road or wind noise? I know it's sort of a subjective question so depends on what previous cars you compare it to. Even tires can be noisy though. Most mfgrs don't sell very high-end rubber like a set of good Michelin's which often are quieter.
    You said both heating and cooling was fast but I'd like you to elaborate on temp. Did it have really cold air and really hot air? I guess depends on where you live..here we have many -20,-25 winter days and summer many hot humid 80s-95s.
    Do you think a speciality stereo shop could install a CD player in a new Volt? This question is open to any experts here who may be reading. If I had to guess, my fear is that basically ALL these new vehicles, electric or ICE, are purposely designed to EXCLUDE a CD player as part of the sound system. FWIW, not only do I not literally have the time left on earth to convert over a 1000 CDs to MP3, I don't have the equipment but more importantly, even if I converted at the highest memory possible (quality) it still isn't nearly as clean and much lower distortion levels than a good ol' CD player system. You're a fairly young guy compared to many middle aged to old timers who still long for being able to slip a CD in and maybe you've not scrutinized the difference in sound quality at loud levels. I know a few young people listen to tunes using a Bluetooth through some tiny transistor type speakers and that floats their boat perfectly. I don't fall into that category however..thanks👍🙏

    Does your Bolt offer scheduling the heating or cooling, to get the vehicle to a certain temperature before you leave, and while it’s still plugged in to your level 2 charger?
    That would help some with your range.
    I know my Niro EV has that option, it is supposed to help with winter range, though I don’t use a home charger at all. I live in a townhouse, parking space is about 150 feet away, and I use local FREE charging stations.
    Very good video that I’ll share.

    How many Bolts, in total, are GM actually selling in 2022? I've heard, due to the highly publicized fires, it's no longer a desired vehicle. And, thank LG Chem for destroying its reputation if that is the case.
    When GM lost the incentive, I purchased a 2021 Kona EV. It was a very good vehicle, but was wary of the resale value due to LG Chem batteries catching on fire so traded it in for a 2022 Ioniq 5. GM needed to do two things with the updated version of the Bolts:
    1. Change the name
    2. Improve the charging rate
    3. Bonus - dump LG Chem as a supplier; instead they are used as a supplier of the highly touted Ultium batteries using 2017 technology and the resulting slow as molasses charging rate. Very disappointed with GM after such a good few years for the Bolt

      Hot climates are much preferred over cold climates. Running your a/c is about a 2% batt hit whereas the heater can be a 25% hit.
      In addition, the car can tell you what mileage it will cost you to run the ac or heater by simply toggling the ac off/on. The mileage estimator will change accordingly.

    Big price drop coming on the 2023 models of the Bolt. Living in NC, there are VERY few choices in that sub-$40k price point for EVs. I'm considering a lease on an EV as a second vehicle and Bolt EUV is top contender just based on availability. Bolt and Kia Niro are basically it for compact crossover EVs. Leaf's limited range disqualifies it from consideration and the Hyundai Kona isn't sold in NC.

    2. Come on, Ford. Work on the fit and finish!
    3. The cold weather range is a tad worrying, but for people like me who work from home, it's fine. But 180 miles of cold weather range (at 80%) would reassure you that you're not going to be stranded somewhere with a dead battery, considering...
    4. (not mentioned in this video) The car only charges at 50KW. #3 would be totally fine if you could charge at 150KW.
