Thank you Sir, this vid is very much appreciated. I'm a medically retired custom knife maker., and being disabled and on a very small in come mow days I tried a florigen (chinese) clone first to see if I would enjoy it. Well, I did and looked long and hard at the Kadet Pro and the Hapstone RS.
The Rs ended p winning out mostly due to the way the rid is set up. No hitting things on the back of my bench as there is no rod that comes out of the back. of the support. I already have quite a few Venev stones both full size bench stones and 4 and 6x1" inch stones here as well.
I've already learned a few tricks that I've not seen mentioned by anyone. One, the diamond lapping fluid by Trend keeps the stones from loading at all. Well, excet the Columbia Gorge stones. They are a pita. Money wasted for my use.
More importantly, a quick way to obtain a full mirrored edge with the 800 grit Venev stones on the sharpeners. Once the angle is set and the 800 grit stone is finished, rather than the forward to rearward strokes, change the movement of the stone left to right with no pressure with the stone dry. No water of fluid at all. The stone will quickly load and impart a full ultra bright mirror finish. I then raise the angle one degree and use the norman strokes very lightly to impart the mico teeth for good bite. If I use a strop at all, only one or two strokes very lightly with 1 micro. Any more and the micro teeth are compromised and the aggressive bite is minimized.

I've had a KME and currently have the K03. The KME is a very capable sharpener, but I struggled with the angle adjustment and the clamp system didn't fill me with confidence. The K03 is at a different level in terms of design and build quality. It's much more precise than the KME. Gritomatic sells L-Adapters for the K03 than allow the clamps to fit flush against each other without putting them on one side of the center line. You can also reverse the adapters if you need increased distance between the clamps.

@Stassa23 no you were very clear and threw in some tips and tricks. You've had experience with most of the sharpeners out there and to hear that this is the best is exactly what I needed to hear. Jerad obviously does good with sharpening stuff but this was the most clear and well thought out review for sure. Idk man, like I said, you're a knife guys knife guy. You aren't trying to sell anything or push products like most reviewers do...and I get it....but you are actually telling us what we need to know with no BS. I appreciate all your hard work brother. 💪 Seriously. Your content makes life better.

I currently have a KME and I have been considering a Kadet Pro for a while now. This really makes me wanna take the plunge, but my wallet doesn't agree. I've already sunk some money into extras for the KME, and I'd be doing the same all over again for some of those items again with the Kadet Pro. Great video though, certainly appreciate the perspective and the pluses/minuses compared to other systems!

KME has recently released a new system that runs 6" stones. Cool thing with it is that you can use all your extras from your OG KME on the new system. It can run 1x4 up to 1x6 stones, strops, etc.

    • @airadaimagery692
      @airadaimagery692 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I agree. The Hapstone appears to be a viable competitor amongst the rest. It’s the stones that can set you back a bit, if you choose high quality ones. But at least you can purchase the system for less money than the competition, and then you can always pick up different stones later on.

I have had a KME for yers now, but more often than not, I do freehand instead. I just decided to upgrade. The black friday sale was awesome, but I waited tolong and the pro sold out, so I bought the Kadet Nero instead. Not much of a difference. Can't wait till it gets here. The KME works fine, but it's only takes 4" stones. I have 4" Venev stones, but it looks like I'll be buying a set of 6" now

I have this setup and love it. But I do not like the diamond stones it comes with. I use gritomatic whetstones instead. May move to Shapton pro in the future.
Also, the wooden ball handle on mine has fallen off. I have glued it back on several times now, but it won’t stay on. I think I’ll drill it out and insert a small roll pin.

Why do you have the two clamps at different depths on the blade? Why would you not clamp the blade near the back, evenly (so the blade is straight across)? I would REALLY like to know. I’ve only used the Precision Adjust and the Professional Precision adjust systems, and I’m thinking about this system. Thank you! ;-}. MM

    Hi Stassa,
First of all, I love, love your videos and value your comments on the various knife and equipment reviews!
I myself purchased and use the TS Prof Kadet sharpener (Nero model)…. But I have a question about avoiding scraping the claps while sharpening my folding knives and your technique/method of sharpening….
    1. Can you tell me how you are able to avoid scraping the claps while sharpening??
Is there a technique or positioning the blade in the clamps to help me avoid scraping the claps??
    2. When sharpening the blade and as you go through the different stone grits, what is your method?? Example: do you apply the same amount of passes on each side of the blade for each grit or do you change the amount of passes and lessen the amount of passes as you go from lower to higher grits?? What is your approach/application to sharpening while going through the different grit stones??
    Thank you for your advise!

Filet clamps are thinner need to get a set of those or I put the stock clamps on the belt sander and took down the leading edge by a mil or 2. Basically whatever I needed to get a 15 degree on the blade.
