    You're, again, listening to exactly what I'm thinking. I'm in the hunt for a 911, with some "candidates" off the list. The point regarding the Carrera is noted. I'm seeing prices/models all over the charts. It seems that Porsche liked to make 20 different models, each with various differences, in the span of 5 years. But $110k (US) supercars, now in the $30k range. But the cost of the E60 M5 has been dropping like a rock (subjectively).
    Still trending to Porsche, timely article!

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Thomas. They are all great cars and the 911 is superb an many ways. The E60 M5 is a great all rounder but the Porsche is a Porsche. I have noticed the Generation 1 991's are dropping to a reasonable price these days.

    • @thomashelm6931
      @thomashelm6931 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECPP I concur. I've seen some attractive (pricing and looks) 911 for "around" $30k US.
      Age, around 02-06. I believe that these, arguably, have deprecated to a maximum amount. Arguably.
      Although the IMS issues amount to about a 5% failure rate, it's too much for me to chance.
      I'm requiring the Tiptronic (sp?) Transmission because I'm older than shit. Any model of the 991.1 that you might suggest? I'm not a fan of the convertibles. I believe that they are unlawful in Seattle. Or should be.
      Thanks for your time, as always and your patience. I could talk all day. Great videos!

    If you're buying a car, buy it pre-owned into the 2-3 year mark (cars usually have a 3-7 year window until they start changing their style). The mileage counts and the color makes a difference. A creme gold sports car will have more difficulty reselling than a black or red sports car. Buying a pre owned certified from the dealership than a private owner may give people some confidence because an extended warranty is optional but speciality car models and most high performance are usually ineligible for extended warranties.
    Cars that have cult followings don't depreciate badly (Fourth generation Toyota Supra, Honda S2000, 1st generation Acura NSX).
    Also a speciality model of the vehicle depreciates slower (BMW M Series, Mercedes AMG series, Audi S and R series). An M3 BMW E46 coupe is more desirable than a BMW E92 3 series regular coupe.

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can share I’m more detail later but in general, stay away from all naturally aspirated 996 cars and early 987s. Later 997 Carreras were apparently slightly improved regarding IMS bearings. Turbos are generally more robust and a 996 Turbo is a solid machine with no IMS issues. I personally love the 991 cars the best especially the gen 2 cars when they put in the turbo engines for the Carreras. Fast. Time will tell on the durability of late 991s

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny you ak I just had some time in one and I will say they are awesome proportions and size with a wonderful look at sound. They are also very affordable these days. 325 HP in this car feels like more than it is and I would probably consider buying one but just be aware of the cylinder scoring issues from fuel washing on the S models and all of the 996 and 997 generation cars had IMS issues as well as Boxsters and Caymans so it was a bit of a gamble albeit not as serious or frequent as forums suggest, there were some catastrophic engine failures. It seemed like cars that got driven more often were more dependable. Either way, one of the best modern 911s and best value yet since the first gen 991 is still a bit pricey. That being said if you can budget and afford it I would go first gen 991 as they were vastly improved.

    Hey Exotic Cars Play Place what do you think about “electrified” luxury and exotic cars like the i8, Panamera SE Hybrid, and the new Mercedes-AMG E53 with the 48-Volt electric supercharger? Like in terms of reliability and resale value? I think I already know your answer on the i8 as it’s horrendous from that resale and reliability perspectives but what about the Panamera Hybrid and the E53? I mean these electrical systems and lithium batteries are proprietary in design so it’s not like you can really get an aftermarket replacement. Plus they degrade significantly over 7 years and anything beyond that is probably not worth owning because of the replacement costs. And unfortunately it seems that every ICE car now will be replaced with an electric or electrified version in the coming years so it’s not like we’ll have much of a choice anyway. Can only imagine the planned obsolescence on that!

      Not sure about Canada but in the US insurance is based on: driver age and history (obviously) but also on the accident data and number of claims paid out on the specific car you drive. You’d be surprised that higher end vehicles are not much more to insure than a more normal car. Case in point: my E92 was steadily increasing in premiums over the years because of the accumulated national claims payouts for that E92. When the E60 first came out in 2003 (as a 2004 model), they were relatively cheap to insure. That car had an aluminum firewall and they were at the time extremely expensive to repair because aluminum bonded to the steel chassis was so expensive to repair correctly and so few repair shops that could do it that it was common to total loss the car just because of damage to the firewall. So E60 insurance costs started to rise dramatically over the years because of that. Now about the insurance costs to insure higher end vehicles. When I got a quote on an $80K new M3 a few years ago, it cost about the same as my E92 does with same coverage. Also my car new was about $55K and at the time was probably worth about $22K so if you really are looking to get into an exotic and you have a decent driving record, I’d get a quote. You’d be surprised. Also if you drive a lot, and you want to get an exotic, you’d be wise to get another cheaper car as a daily driver because you will kill any resale on an exotic with very high miles.

    • @zxtenn
      @zxtenn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably wouldn't hurt to wait for a supercharged version but for that price hard to resist now, top speed is still 193 but not up to ZR-1 standards though acceleration is at least equal, hope there is room enough for a supercharger? I used to love the early 80's 911 Targa back in its day.
