That’s pretty cool. Still haven’t figured out what decision left all the gear intact on the Iowa but they stripped the New Jerseys radio room. But nevertheless it’s awesome to see it operational

The BB IOWA is so intact compared to other Museum ships. I wonder if that is the reason it was named by Congress as the National Museum of the Surface Navy?

Another great video Gary, you obviously know your equipment very well. I am glad they kept that it all on the ship for the museum.

Very interesting, the way your museum uses the technical experts to present info on their relevant space. This is not to knock New Jersey's system, I love listening to Ryan there, but for this highly technical material you can see the difference your interpreters make.

We love to give them a chance to share their expertise. They work incredibly hard and are so dedicated. They deserve some recognition, even if they squirm at the thought of it. 😉

God in heaven, what a terrible fist. But an absolutely marvelous presentation by the gentleman! Fascinating amount of gear!

      Fist?

@@BattleshipUSSIowaLosAngeles 'Fist' stands for the ability of a radio telegraphy operator to send morse code manually. The oldest morse keys were operated with your hand somewhat as a fist. A good fist means that the code you're sending is clearly legible, and has a consistent rhythm. A bad fist means that your timing and rhythm are off, meaning that the dits and dahs are of inconsistent length, which makes the code very hard to understand.
I think the guy above is referring to the 'morse code' in the intro. I cannot read any of it, i have a hunch it's just 'mock morse' made by a foley artist just as some ambient noise. A radio operator will instantly pick it out, the general audience will never know, just like when you have a 2 cylinder engine noise 'pasted into' a scene that shows a 4 cylinder motorcycle.
Of course, ham radio operators are pedantics by trade, and will often give their unfiltered opinion about it. I'm one too, i cringed at it too, but i assumed it was just some sound effect to set the atmosphere and i try to keep my mouth shut if what i have to say is neither nice, nor constructive. Either way, if you ever need proper morse code sounds, just ask a random radio operator.

Great video. As an amateur I appreciate the time taken to get into technical detail. I would love to iperate from there!

The "Battleship USS IOWA Museum" youtube page does not work. If you click on the link on any of your videos you get an error. You need to talk to youtube.

It works if you search from google, but not if you search from within youtube.

Nice video. All it needs is someone who can send proper morse in the intro...
