I really like Bambi. Beautiful prose with descriptions of the both wonderful and harsh realities of the natural world.

I'm currently reading Bambi. I just set it aside because I am loving the writing and I want to soak in it and I don't have time to do so at present. I'll pick it up again as soon as some of the Chonky Boys are finished! 😂
Heather @waterbearreads just read it this past year and she Highlighted an illustrated edition in her 'best of 2023' wrap-up.

I never saw Little Women as just a children's book. To me it is a classic, an American classic. It just happens to be my ALL TIME FAVORITE book. I collect editions of it. I grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts (US). The birthplace of American independence. Concord was next door, where Alcott wrote Little Women and other bks. I have been in her home ( Orchard House) many, many times as a teen and adult. I re-read LITTLE WOMEN every 2/3 yrs. I love Anne of Green Gables. I met Anne when I bought that series for my daughters, when they were young. I ended up buying them EVERY L.M.Montgomery bk. They were fabulous😁. I bought myself her poetry. We even took a trip to Prince Edward Island one summer because of the Anne bks. I LOVE Miranda Mills! Presently reading The Secret Garden for her Cosy Book Club for this month! Next month is Anne! I didn't remember much from the Secret Garden, but it is coming back and I can't put it down. Tasha Tudor and Eloise Wilkins are my favorite children's illustrators.. New subscriber here.

    Further recommendations:
The Borrowers, Black Beauty, The Giver Quartet, Brambly Hedge, The Genius of Willie MacMichael, The Great Brain Series, Children of the Green Knowe series, Redwall (it's a 20 book series, but Redwall will give you a feel as to whether or no you want to read more - after the first one you can read them in any order really - it's the place that connect's them, not all the characters follow book to book).
Phantom tollbooth, The Lion The Witch and tThe Wardrobe, Sarah Plain and Tall, The Courage of Sarah Noble, Emily of Deep Valley, Betsy Tacy Tib Series, Aesop's Fables, Uncle Remus Stories, A Cricket in Times Square, & The Little Prince 💞

One of my favorite illustrators, Chris Dunn, has an illustrated edition of Wind in the Willows out that I have been drooling over. I have the Robert Ingpen illustrated version and I do love it. (it's just not Chris' ) Inga Moore also has one that is simply beautiful.

I love love love children's books. I've read almost all of the ones you mentioned. Have you read Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren? It's one of my favorites. In college I read several of the Mary Poppins series by PL Travers and was shocked how different they were from the movie! Enjoy your reading - I always try to sprinkle a few children's books throughout my year.

Years ago I took a class in children's lit. For the course project did a study of Newbury Award Books. I enjoyed the research very much and I learned much. Another class we read picture books. My sons were grown when I took the classes and my grands had not arrived yet. I am enjoying rereading the books ( some for the 3rd generation me, my sons and the grands) I'm also discovering new books - my 8yo grandson is interested in such a variety of things - Bees, trains, mushrooms, and the Titanic - are at the top of his list. I'm learning so much about his interests. It is interesting - he reads the books me like I read to him.
If you like Little Women - I recommend March by Geraldine Brooks. It is not a children's books but a book about Mr. March. It adds background to Little Women.
The Giver is excellent - easily appeals to young people and grown ups. I've read most all of of Roald Dahl books - I know they are the subject of many issues and critics want them rewritten to be politically correct. My sons and I read the Hobbit aloud to each other. We also read the Narnia books.
I recommend looking at the Newbury Award Books - going back to the first one - provided you can find a copy. It is informative to follow the themes as they mirror the issues and the time of their publication.

I do Love A Little Princess, it just didn't capture me as deeply as The Secret Garden. Something about the London school and streets vs the Yorkshire Moores and a hidden, forgotten garden. Sarah was an exemplary character though. If you haven't read her Little Lord Fauntleroy, I recommend it.

Louisa May Alcott has been a favorite forever. Other's of her "children's" stories I love are Eight Cousins (also called The Aunt Hill) and Old Fashioned Girl. The only (classified) Adult novel is The Inheritance and it is also wonderful.

I to am also reading with the Cosy Reading Book Club and lovely Miranda. I need to gather some more children's books, especially Charlotte's Webb and Heidi. I am not sure why but I found the Secret Garden a bit dark and felt for the 2 children. I do get the relief of the wonderful garden. It must be me taking it from today's perspective.?? Hi! I’ve also been reading a lot of children’s literature lately. I just read The Little White Horse and absolutely loved it. I think you enjoy it as well. We have a lot of the classics in our church library and I’m so grateful. Charlottes Web was a fave of mine as a kid. Sounds like it needs a reread. Oh, I just read Little House as well. My hubby got me 6 books from the Cherry Ames series and I’m enjoying those sooo much. This month I have a Narnia book on my TBR. I subbed and look forward to more of your videos. 🙂💖

Little House were regulars in our household when the kids were little.
Anne.🥰 As much as I think the first 3 books are marvelous, I think the rest of the series is just good. I have never read the final book, Rilla of Ingleside, because I know the plot beats and that it is heartbreaking and I just can't bring myself to it. However, many think it is the best of the later books!
