I hate when people compliment me because I convince myself that they are either lying or saying it out of pity. And when I say I am ugly and they say no you're not I know they're lying.

One of my friends (I dont like calling or referring to her as a friend bc shes never done anything to deserve that title for me) made a whole album of pictures of me (it's the type of pics when you dont give someone your permission to take a picture of you.) I remember the day she told me about the album after school, I was crying and felt mad/annoyed at her. I remember being in such a bad mood and it bothered me so much. I told her to delete them and she didnt. I dont have the condition btw it's just I hate the fact that she has over 100 pictures of me showing my early teen stages to my older teen stages and I cringe at how chubby I am in the pics and my ugliness. It ruins my day seeing pictures of me aswell ugh :(

We grow with these beauty standards and we are shown that, on ly people who look a certain way are beautiful. But in reality, "beauty" is subjective, because one person may think someone is really pretty and another person may think the opposite. Wich does not mean one is right and the other is wrong. So technically no one is "beautiful" because that is not a fact, it's just an opinion.

This was so painful to watch. I literally despise looking into mirrors. I find it increasingly difficult to not be entirely appalled by my looks. I can’t accept compliments, I can’t be in videos, I walk with my head down in public, and my confidence is non existent. Some days I stare at myself in the mirror and just cry my eyes out. It sucks and it’s genuinely one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through.

@@charismamina8461 What life have teached to me is: the label "you are ugly" is too easily given and often falsely given also.
      Our judgments should always be:
John 7:24 KJV Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. Lets analyze the judgment "you are ugly" - 1stly it is judgment towards a being, This world sees females as sex toys not as human beings. If the real you ain+t known, then there is nobody to judge.
2ndly - it is judgment towards appearances, we all age every second, what is therefore there truly judge? and what John 7: 24 says? And have we forgotten who we are? DUST, we are dust, directly formed from it.
      Genesis 3:19
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
And to be hurt or not about others opinions = false judgment, about you, you 1st make sure you know from where they take their “judgment”. Often and by many it is taken from movies, from magazines, from hollywood. Well, lets hurt everyone a little more, Hollywood club is filled with “transgender's” who even shave off their own bone anatomy.
And normal human with sober mind should not find any living soul “attractive” or we`d be paedophiles, are you?
Being single gives us the full freedom to get right with GOD, to build into existence once lost relationship, between GOD and creation, between PARENT and child.
      1 Corinthians Chapter 7 KJV
32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife. 34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
this world presents love as lust, and if you`re not always touched, then you are not loved = lies and fear propaganda. All of it because the MK ULTRA PROJECTS from masons.
John 15:13 KJV Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
And being ALONE (not on your own) does bring forth sober mind.
What I have witness in my short life so far is, souls get together for money and because they are bored and the 3th reason is, the pressure of peers and older generations. “People around me repeated daily, get married and have children and move out, so I did. Am I happily living after? NO, i`m bitter, angry, sad, broken, in fear, heavy leaden, in darkness, always in somewhat contests with people around me, who has something better, something more and so on…, I succumbed to the fear of the opinions about my life of others, thats the hurtful truth.”
We start feeling lonely, because we are on our own, lonely comes not from BEING ALONE. We all suffer of something and as we like “diagnoses” then lets diagnose ourselves: too often in the company of people, leading us to fear ALONE TIME, which each soul needeth. The cure for all of our problems are: ALONE TIME AND BIBLE. Hollywood has teached us how to live and love, way too long, lets risk with all that we have and give chance to GOD through His word.
      KJV Bible says;
      Matthew 6:31
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
      Luke 12:22
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
      Matthew 6:25
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
      Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

This generation is soooo broken. If you don't meet a person requirements when it comes to your face you are defined as ugly. My self-esteem was ruined at age 11. Being called ugly by my friends and others. Even if they are just joking. It still hurts inside. Today I have to cover my face everytime I smile or laugh. It still hurts thinking about the fact that I am ugly. The worst thing is that we are still judged just because we look different. You simply start to feel alone. And no one should feel that way. It's just so unfair.

Because he is a bit anxious and introverted. Although he's attractive, not just to me, but generally, he isn't Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp. I sometimes think he just settled with me because we were really good friends before we got together. And that I'm actually truly ugly. His sister is so pretty like.. why would he want ogre if he's seen attractive people in his life? His parents and family are attractive

Endomorph body shape where I gain fat everywhere. If I gain weight goes straight onto my face. I have small eyes and low brow line. I have perpetual lines on my neck, even when I have lost weight to a healthy size. Even when I was fitter and did kickboxing and trained hard, I have an over hanging belly, back fat, saggy but enlarged chest, hyper pigmentation, no real curves. Every wide shoulders and chest awkward hands. Basically an ogre. Don't even need to describe it. What can anyone say if I already know. What difference would it make?

I have BDD since I was in my pre teens. It is hell. I am 25 and have a relationship for the first time because before I was too mentally ill to let anyone in cuz I thought I was so ugly. One time I even referred to myself as human waste during therapy and he was shocked. A lot of people have told me I am beautiful, but I thought they were lying to me because they felt sorry for me. I am much better than how I used to be, but the symptoms are still there. All thanks for extreme verbal and emotional abuse as a child.

You are very young at 17, go get the help that you need as soon as possible. Don't underestimate your needs and don't be ashamed to ask for a specialist's help. Not even loving, caring friends can fully understand this phenomenon. And neither internet alone will help. Go see a doctor, it would be a shame not to take advantage from everything therapy has to offer. Twenty years ago they wouldn't even get the right diagnosis. Good luck and never forget you are not alone!

a lot of people don't believe that BDD exists so I don't talk about it so of course people feel even more isolated.. but it is a very real thing and often starts in childhood, A key classic feature is a crippling shame about your appearance - like when one of the women said "I don't deserve to be among people" they really believe that in their worst moments.
I remember when I was only 7 I told my friend that I didn't deserve to come to school because of how awful I looked.. of course totally irrational but at the time I really felt like I was grotesque and should be hidden away. this is a learned behavior in a lot of ways and can be unlearned.. these days I battle BDD everyday by challenging my thoughts and fears around my appearance - facing them is the only way to overcome them and to understand that no matter how you look or think you look you still have the same rights as everyone else. It is obviously a mental illness and needs to be understood and taken seriously

I have tried what your saying before, and it does help at times but it is truly a constant battle,. I just wish we can send a memo to each and every one of us that it is okay to be ugly! We are human beings, no one is perfect but we've all been lied to from a young age and have been misled to think that our worth is measured by our beauty on the OUTSIDE. This pressure used to be mainly directed to women, but Ive noticed that men are now falling victim to this BS. We just need to stand up against it, but it is challenging!

I suffer from 4 different mental disorders (BDD,OCD,ADHD,APD,) BDD is by far the worst one. I always am having these battles in the mirror, always looking "different" everytime I look at the mirror, and it REALLY sucks, it is an obsessive behaviour that ruins any chance of me ever having a girlfriend or a stable group of friends. I also constantly compare my face to other people (Real life or online) it's a pretty sad existence if you have this condition, and it has left me depressed and tearful. Really hope any guy/girl can relate to what I said, cheers.

This is exactly how I feel!! It is like I have a record constantly playing in my head telling me that I am ugly and no one wants me all the time. So when I do 'find' someone and it doesn't work out, I take it so bad because I feel like they and the situation are validating my thoughts and that I really must be ugly worthless as they have realised that I am not 'good enough' and not 'worthy' enough to be with anyone because they rejected me.

Its actually nice to see people who are suffering from the same thing as I. I thought I was the only one in the world suffering from this. We have the face we were given and it is what it is. The only thing we can do is move forward. Thats what it means to be humans. You have a life and you are obligated to make the most of it. You existed as a human in a universe absolutely devoid of life. Your existence is worth something. No matter how insignificant, it was never zero. Live life. Move forward. What better way is there to live.

I think I had that for a long time - the feeling of thinking that I was better looking than I was. I would look in the mirror and be like “oh, I look pretty darn good today” of something, and when I was younger there would be guys I’d like, and I’d think that I was pretty enough to be liked by them. But they would never like me back. I remember playing spin the bottle with my friends, and I’m surprised at how I still managed to think I was even slightly attractive when the guy it landed on practically retched at the thought of having to be kissed on the cheek by me.
It was relatively recently that I suddenly realised that I wasn’t pretty. I don’t know if I’m truly ugly, as everyone is too nice to say anything, but I’m very, very plain. I think it started to hit me when I would make a passing comment about how awful I looked, and no one would correct me. Like you know how teenage girls are like “ewww I look gross today” and their friends are like “nooo you’re stunning”? That never happened to me.
So now I’ve switched to “traditional” body dysmorphia. At the moment, when everyone is talking about the people they have crushes on etc or the guys they are dating, I keep quiet. I don’t tell anyone who I like, because I know their reaction will be pity. Not for me, but for the guy I might like. I know they’d feel sorry for anyone to have to know that they were liked by me, that they would be disgusted. Because who would want to be crushed on by someone as hideous looking as me?
I’m not fishing for compliments. I’m not trying to get pity. I’m just saying my personal experience.

The first time I realized I'm not really as good-looking as I thought I was was during highschool.
I was talking with my mom about a bunch of stuff and we brought up a friend who is a neighbour of mine who was so pretty. I asked her why people kept flocking to her even when she doesn't approach them, and my mom just stared at me for a while and then said awkwardly: "Well, your beauty is the sort where you the more you spend with the person the more you see it, your smiles don't hurt either."
I was honestly shell-shocked since it came out of nowhere and just tore my self-confidence to shreds. I think now that she saw I was delusional about my looks and wanted to snap me out of it.
Anyway, even if it really hurt me at that time and the following years too, I think right now I'm more grounded in reality and more confident about myself since I know what to expect and not put myself in embarrassing situations: No more daydreams about hot guys or expectations of getting tons of likes of my photos on IG etc.
It's honestly liberating to be one with yourself. That's why I hate people who comment that 'eVeRY onE is BeAuTifuL' bs. They just make people more delusional OR in my case, plain angry.

I relate to the second woman. I get so annoyed whenever someone tries to convince me that I’m not ugly or at least not as ugly as I perceive myself to be. It usually feels like a lie because they’re taking pity on me, which just makes things even worse. I don’t know if it’s dysmorphia, but it’s a feeling I’ve struggled with my entire life like so many other people. Hyper-fixating on every little flaw rather than taking in your whole image makes you see yourself as a caricature of what you actually are, and even while knowing that, there are so many days when you just can’t overcome it. You’re convinced that everyone who even glances at you is thinking “how disgusting/ugly/funny-looking” when in reality they don’t give two shits about what you look like. And then when you try to explain this to other people, they tell you that you’re lying for attention or you’re fishing for compliments, when that’s actually the last thing that you want. You want no comments on your appearance 9 times out of 10, and you want to just put it out of your mind completely. Occasionally the compliments do make you feel a bit better, but a lot of the times you just don’t know how to take them- if they’re genuine, if you’re being made fun of, or if you should change out of whatever they complimented you on because you don’t want to draw attention to yourself. You just want to blend in and know that you’re blending in instead of being constantly aware of yourself and anyone who passes by. I don’t post selfies anywhere, I don’t even add a profile picture of myself to anything. I’m 22 and I’ve never been in a real relationship because I isolate myself sooo much and I think I push others away as soon as they try to get close. I have 1 friend that’s been with my my entire life, but I have no others because of this. I don’t go to the gym or shopping because I’m terrified of someone looking at me in places purely meant for your body and thinking “she shouldn’t be here.” It’s caused me to miss so many amazing opportunities and even drop out of college a couple of years ago (only to basically live as a shut-in for nearly 2 years after that). I’m tired of this issue but I don’t know how to overcome it- therapy and medication didn’t work, and I haven’t been able so far to switch my thinking myself through positive thoughts, but I’m trying.

I struggled w BDD and an ED for years, but it’s way better now... what helped me was focusing externally on other people, the environment, and getting out from self focused thinking. Also you can train your mind like a muscle to discard negative thoughts and replace them. I used to stare in mirrors for hours and obsess over flaws but now I generally avoid excessive looking.
Also perspective, think of all the people with severe deformities and physical disabilities, I feel grateful to be alive honestly and want to help others.
It’s definitely not easy and I still get self conscious thoughts, but this disorder CAN get better

The only thing that gives me some hope is watching BBC docs . They have shows that make me laugh, cry, and feel something. They have stories that inspire me and challenge me. I am married now to a good looking man. I have nothing good to say about my appearance and I have often wondered why my husband married me. I have a ton of great qualities but where I lack in the looks department I make up for in personality....had to...I needed something to offer and put on the table. I go unnoticed, I am not desirable and men never look at me. My husband never compliments me, only when he wants to be intimate...other then that...I never receive compliments. But I sure can cook well, make people laugh, smart and work hard.

We are not bad, or vein people, just damaged and inflicted by a terrible condition and an overactive imagination. One thing that helped me a lot, was being able to express my feelings through poetry, I had an ocean of tears, built up inside of me, I released them through my words.we may not Al. Be poets, but expression can come in other forms. Through my words, I cleared years of wrong thinking. I also through my own experience, helped so many others, because I had empathy and experience I don't want a medal for this, or appraisal. All, I'm trying to say is, my suffering for a reason I felt was to help others. Without my suffering. I may have never been in such a position. Your pain is my pain too. Love to everyone.

So I’m new with BDD, been struggling in silence for 20 years. But before I explain anything else I do want to say it’s made me so incredibly strong, nobody can bring me down because nobody hates me more then myself. I actually believed everybody went through these feelings, I’m NO where near as severe as these lovely souls but for me It’s with my weight, to be honest I’m going on week 2 of not leaving the house. Every flaw I have is Magnified, I will look in the mirror and see my body in a certain angle and think in my mind “this is how I look” but when other people take pictures of my body or I catch my refection I think oh, I’m actually way way way bigger then I was thinking in my head. It goes back and forth non stop.. And it’s throughout the day. Every single day I am confused about how I look. I don’t know what my body looks like. There’s so much more to it but I tried to simplify it, it’s amazing to find people going through what I am going through & maybe vice versa.. my goal is to leave the house tomorrow(it’s nighttime now) and stay out for as long as I can & keep my mind busy & away from negative thoughts.
