Sure. I even made an extra video about it. It's the second one in the description with “3.5-INCH flies like 5-INCH: ” th-cam.com/video/lDPUSLaiiA8/w-d-xo.html
I feel like this is exactly what my year would have looked like if i didnt decide to go back to school and have to pay for tutition. i started on sims once i logged 43 hours bought the avata second hand have been dying to upgrade though.
Spent ~$400! Got an air 75, pocket radio and fatshark box goggles. First flight the drone crashed in a dog bowl full of water!😡😢. So lucky it worked even after turning it on three times in panic. Gave it 12 hours to dry after spraying it with air. I was so impatient and freaking out. Gees could have been a complete waste
Oh man, that sounds like a nerve-wracking experience!! 😱 So glad your Air 75 made it through! It's crazy how resilient some of this gear can be after a crash.
From countless hours of research, I found the pocket radio master, air 65, or 75, and father’s box goggles come out to be some of the best fpv tools to use
hey, thank you. I use these settings: - 30-60fps - ND filter depending on the sun - 180 degree shutter rule (1/60 - 1/120) - Lowest ISO, mostly 100~400 - Fixed white balance
Exactly the type of video I was looking for! I'm currently looking at starting with Cetus X - but I have a feeling like this might not cut it for me. Would you recommend jumping one up to a custom build drone for a beginner or stick with Cetus to catch the grips? I've got a decent budget to purchase higher end equipment mentioned right of the start but I'm not sure how much is it worth it without having any skill at all. I was also considering Avata2 but I feel like this might not give me the "real" FPV experience that I want to get to and it would make it harder to get into custom drones since it has way too many safety feature (which is nice but I really want to get into this)
If you’re brand new to FPV, my honest recommendation is to start with a good transmitter and spend some hours in a simulator. It’s the quickest and cheapest way to nail the basics without risking expensive gear. For radios, something like the Radiomaster Zorro, Radiomaster Pocket, Jumper T Pro, or TBS Tango (if you’re leaning toward Crossfire instead of ELRS) would be a solid choice. Once you’ve got the hang of it in the sim, the decision becomes more about what feels right for you. I personally started with the Cetus X, and while it’s great for learning, in hindsight, I could’ve started with another tiny whoop as well. The beauty of the Cetus X kit is that it’s ready to go straight out of the box, which is perfect for beginners. Just a heads-up-if you do go for the Cetus X, I’d recommend using the Betaflight version (I dive into this in my other video "My biggest mistake"). As for the Avata2, you’re spot on-it’s more like FPV-lite. It’s great for cinematic flying, but if you’re aiming for that real FPV experience with custom builds and less safety net, it might not be the best long-term choice. And yeah, a custom 5-inch is where most people end up eventually-it’s like the holy grail of FPV. But the path to getting there often involves a lot of crashes, repairs, and learning experiences. Tiny whoops are much more forgiving and way safer to start with. At the end of the day, it’s your journey-so go with what excites you most! Let me know what you decide on, and happy flying! 🚁😄
@@fpv-geek Thank you so much for the reply! I'm currently on the hunt for Cetus X kit (Betaflight version) during blackfriday. This was super insightful thank you 🙏
My first journey to FPV is DJI Avata 2 manual mode. just two weeks after i bought it.. i already crash it 10 times. maybe i should use Beta FPV first rather than avata..
Exactly! With a TinyWhoop, you can crash all day and not worry too much about damage. It's a great way to build confidence before stepping up to bigger quads
For the basics, absolutely! Starting with a simulator is a fantastic way to get comfortable with controls, and it’s super budget-friendly-you just need a transmitter and a sim like Liftoff or DRL Simulator. It helps you build muscle memory without the stress of crashing an actual drone. Plus, you can try out different flying styles and environments. Once you’ve got the hang of it, transitioning to a real drone becomes way easier!
I’m very deep in the hole I’ve spend maybe 6k in less than a year I’m trying to fly when ever I get the chance I have simulators in my phone ps5 and steam deck and now my gym sweatshirts are all related to fpv my iPhone case has a picture of a drone and I’m someone who’s only hobby for the past 12 years have been lifting weights

Im 2 yrs in and well into 5k easy and only have bought 3 sets of goggles....dji v2 skyzone 04x for analog and i started with fatshark scout box goggles...... i need to switch over to goggles 2 or walksnail already....switching between vistas amd 03 between quads gets annoying and the newer walksnail stuff is getting really good
If i could do it over i woulda jjst bought dki action 2 cam....no back screen to break from battery smashing intk it....and smaller and way lighter......went thru a few go pros before i chose it
There is a TPU Screen Saver for the Action 2. But I always forget to fit it. Fortunately, I haven't yet crashed the Action 2 so badly that the battery has destroyed the screen.
Haha, definitely! 😅 The ups and downs are part of the process. When the quad crashes, it can be frustrating, but rebuilding it and getting it back in the air is always rewarding. You'll get through the tough stages and come out stronger! 💪 Keep pushing, it gets better with time!

Sorry, but my Cetus X didn’t make it-it’s no longer around. 😅 But don’t worry, there are some great beginner kits out there! If you're just starting, something like the Cetus X or a similar beginner drone could be a good choice. Let me know if you need recommendations! 🙌
My first setup was a Betafpv Meteor 75 Pro + eachine ev800dm + Radiomaster Pocket. All cost me around 250$ (26500₽). Now I am smoothly transitioning to 5 inch drone based on an Apex 5 frame. Current drone was built from scratch and cost me around 160$ (17000₽). Used batteries from my airsoft AEG, just soldered them properly Later will be moving towards a digital setup, though I am still waiting for something competitive apart from DJI or Walksnail appears on the market. Gotta say it is a way more expensive hobby in your country, than here in Russia, but I love the fact the community develops and grows Keep it up!
Im in high school, just lost my meteor 65 on top of building and crashed my rc plane about a month ago... Not quite sure if I can keep up with the costs of both hobbys having to pay out of pocket 😂
You don’t have to spend a ton to have fun-starting small and working your way up is a great way to go. Like with any hobby, the costs can definitely add up, but there are plenty of affordable options to get you started. Just enjoy the journey, and the upgrades will come when you're ready! 😄
sounds like an unrealistic path tbh. you don't have to spend that much, if you don't want to. started fpv around a year ago as well and in that time i spent around 1250€ on it. a big chunk comes from the goggles i upgraded to (from ev800d to 04o pro, so around 500€ alone for both goggles). add to that 200€ for the radio that i already had and another ~100 for the charger i already had that i needed for the 4s packs and for ~1500€ you have 4 drones (mobula 6 fs, mobula 6 2024, mobula 8, crux35), 3 chargers (whoopstor for 1s, toothstor for 2s, isdt k2 air for up to 6s), 2 goggles (could use the ev800d as a screen for others), enough batteries for all drones (all gnb) and a tx16s 4in1 with an elrs module. now you could go and shave away all the things you don't need because you don't have the money or don't wanna spend as much. not buying a second mobula 6 saves around 100€, going with a radiomaster pocket instead of a tx16s saves ~140€, not buying the better goggles saves 380€ or buying better goggles from the start instead of cheap ones saves ~100€. the drones i have use 1s, 2s and 4s so you could just not buy the whoopstor (30€) and toothstor (30€) and just have a good charger for batteries of many sizes (i still bought them both because they can run off a usb powerbank). in the end you don't have to spend much more than ~500€ in your first year. your mileage regarding spare parts might vary of course
Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! 😊 Just to clarify, I never said you *have* to spend that much-it's just what I've personally invested. Everyone’s journey is different, and there are definitely ways to start FPV with much less. You could easily stick to a simulator and grab a Cetus X kit for around $250 in your first year, and still have a great time flying! 🚁 It’s all about what works for you and what you're comfortable with. Thanks again for the thoughtful input! 🙏
Ah, gotcha! No worries. 😊 I think it’s like with any hobby-it's possible to start really cheaply. Probably even less than $250 if you buy used gear. But once you catch the passion, it can add up pretty quickly! 😅 It's all about finding the right balance that works for you. Enjoy the journey, no matter how much you spend!

my first drone i bought BNF 6 inch, after almost 1 year i upgraded my 6" to 7" drone.
just have 1 drone and i'm very limited time to fly make my skill stuck😅
can't build by myself, can't do tricks like you, and yeah sometimes fly but everyday just looking another pilot flying drone😅
Thanks so much for your words, I really appreciate it! I checked out your videos, and I have to say-they’re seriously impressive! I’m also a bit jealous of those amazing locations you get to fly in. 😄 Keep it up, you're doing great!
@@fpv-geek thanks dude, but belive me! locations is never move, Volcanos can't move and you can buy ticket to go everywhere you want.. BUT skill? i can't buy ticket to got those skill you and other great pilot have!
that's why i'm so jealous with who can build drone and who can flying great, smooth and very skill full..
i live in home of Volcanos, Indonesia. 🙏🏽🇮🇩
so how much have you spent in total?
It's around $4000. I forgot to mention a few things (like the simulator) and didn't mention some things twice, like batteries that need to be replaced more often. Also, spare parts here and there, etc.
Okay, me to, used a bunch of money and have them all, DJI, Walksnale and analog, help,,, where will it end? ❤
We not stoppung till we see 10s
What is your favorite?
This video is real af
enjoyed whole video
Can you share what motors you put on the 3.5 inch to make to fly better? I too feel super dissatisfied in performance of my 3.5 inch compared to my 5 inch freestyle.
Sure. I even made an extra video about it. It's the second one in the description with “3.5-INCH flies like 5-INCH: ”
th-cam.com/video/lDPUSLaiiA8/w-d-xo.html
just started today, with dji neo motion combo+rc3, maybe in a few days will do manual after get use to remote 😂
Nice! Have fun and I hope to see you again for your first (5-inch) FPV build.
How much do you spend trough the whole year?
Great video bro 💯
NICE BROTHER I LOVE DRONES ❤
I subbbed. I thought you were a big youtuber when I subscribed. Your videos are very high quality. I'm uploading a fpv drone video today.
Thank you very much
I feel like this is exactly what my year would have looked like if i didnt decide to go back to school and have to pay for tutition. i started on sims once i logged 43 hours bought the avata second hand have been dying to upgrade though.
Is the avata good? And what would be a good deal if you buy it used?
How you are getting that awesome motion blur in dji action 2
hey, thank you.
I use these settings:
- 30-60fps
- ND filter depending on the sun
- 180 degree shutter rule (1/60 - 1/120)
- Lowest ISO, mostly 100~400
- Fixed white balance
Buy a radio, use it with a sim. Build or buy a 2nd hand basher, lipo and charger, fly LOS for a bit. Buy some goggles, you’re up and flying FPV.
I actually forgot to mention the sim in the video, but yeah, I definitely picked one up too.
Started in August 2022 with the DJI A1...Now I am here...spent towards the 33-35k😂 Totally worth the experience though!😊
33-35k? Wow! What kind of stuff did you treat yourself to? 😄
Yea you should practice a tinywhop like mobula8 to get familiar with freestyle acro
Exactly! With a TinyWhoop, you can crash all day and not worry too much about damage. It's a great way to build confidence before stepping up to bigger quads
is it better to start on simulator?
For the basics, absolutely! Starting with a simulator is a fantastic way to get comfortable with controls, and it’s super budget-friendly-you just need a transmitter and a sim like Liftoff or DRL Simulator.
It helps you build muscle memory without the stress of crashing an actual drone. Plus, you can try out different flying styles and environments. Once you’ve got the hang of it, transitioning to a real drone becomes way easier!
Great video!
That's awesome! Sounds like you've fully immersed yourself in the FPV world. It's amazing how a hobby can take over in the best way. Keep flying and enjoy the journey!

what LEDs are those at 6:08? They look sick! 🤔

Hi, wie ist das mit den dronen in Deutschland in öffentlichen bereichen?
Ist in der EU-Drohnenverordnung geregelt.
Nice video, Can you made a video, how to pid?
Thanks! 😊 I'll definitely make a video on how to set PID values in the future. Stay tuned! 👌
Im 2 yrs in and well into 5k easy and only have bought 3 sets of goggles....dji v2 skyzone 04x for analog and i started with fatshark scout box goggles...... i need to switch over to goggles 2 or walksnail already....switching between vistas amd 03 between quads gets annoying and the newer walksnail stuff is getting really good
Yeah, switching between O3 and Vista is such a hassle. 😅 It's crazy how long it takes to switch.
Cool so there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m right in the middle of the frustrated stage. I bound and determined.
Haha, definitely! 😅 The ups and downs are part of the process. When the quad crashes, it can be frustrating, but rebuilding it and getting it back in the air is always rewarding. You'll get through the tough stages and come out stronger! 💪 Keep pushing, it gets better with time!
How much did you spent in the first year in total?
It's around $4000. I forgot to mention a few things (like the simulator) and didn't mention some things twice, like batteries that need to be replaced more often. Also, spare parts here and there, etc.
@@fpv-geek i am flying since august 23 and i am at the same price range. But i bought a lot of things i dont need anymore XD
so..... what's the total?

can i have your old cetusx
im new and dont have any drones and have only ever flown a sim on my phone and ipad
Sorry, but my Cetus X didn’t make it-it’s no longer around. 😅 But don’t worry, there are some great beginner kits out there! If you're just starting, something like the Cetus X or a similar beginner drone could be a good choice. Let me know if you need recommendations! 🙌
Does flying fpv make you feel sick?
I have tried vr, but it leaves me feeling bilious. This is what is putting me off (apart from the cost - obvs)
so I don't notice anything when flying FPV. I think it also makes a big difference whether you are sitting still or on the move.
Used batteries from my airsoft AEG, just soldered them properly
Later will be moving towards a digital setup, though I am still waiting for something competitive apart from DJI or Walksnail appears on the market.
Gotta say it is a way more expensive hobby in your country, than here in Russia, but I love the fact the community develops and grows
Keep it up!
Yes, tech stuff is really expensive. it’s great seeing the FPV community expand globally. Thanks for sharing your FPV journey
Iam just going to get the avata2 with the care refresh then iam done 😂😂😂😂
Haha, sounds like a solid plan! But I bet we’ll catch you again when you decide to dive into your first 5-inch build. 😜
@fpv-geek i just thought that high number might scare people away from starting the hobby so wanted to make sure to show that its not necessary :D
Ah, gotcha!
So... Did you say the total and I missed it?
I'm lacking Rainman skills.

Wait so in total how much lol.

I think im in the 5 grand region
That's a solid number! 💪 What kind of setup do you use for your FPV flying? Always curious to see what other pilots are flying with!
@fpv-geek mostly orqa analog and some goggles x walksnail and many different quads currently my main flyers are a quadifier diamondback type f 5in grinderino demibot and tanq s 5in runs 1500 6s and my 3.5s running 850 hv demibot and tanq s are walksnail and quadifier and grinderino are analog but I have a bunch of different cinawhoops and a 8x and so tiny whoops chilling that I don't fly as much
Just to be clear when he says new motors at 5:50 for $25 that's totally unrealistic. You're lucky to find motors for $25 EACH.
the Emax RS1606 motors in the video are on sale for $7 each
I actually got the Emax RS1606 motors for around $6-7 each during a sale on AliExpress. In the video, I show the costs I paid at the time, which were based on those deals.
Very exciting and informative 👌🏻
