Daman bro, you giving me anxiety. I just hang my radio and goggles down my neck and ride my bicycle to my closest park. They just hang around and slam against each other. 😓I probably need to carry them more safely.
Lmao I mean, do you. I bang around the radio a little more than I should, but goggles are so damn expensive I try to take care of them. Some are def. more durable than others
@@DanielJohnFPV Well goggles I have Integra and it doesn't bang around that much since it's tightly hanging around my neck. But the radio is loose and it just jiggles around like a pendulum.
I am using a rubber band on all my batteries to tuck the balance cable. A sideeffect is that I always know which batteries are full, empty or on storage.
That's a good idea. There are some drone companies I know that use a color-coded 3d printed plug for the XT60/90 that corresponds with their charge level. Doesn't help a dangly balance cable, but a good idea if you have a ton of batteries.
Regarding the installation of the antenna before flying: One time I was flying my tinywhoop around the house and forgot to install the antenna on the radio. Everything worked fine and I only noticed that I forgot the antenna after I already flew four lipos. The drone never lost signal or had troubles with the connection. It looks like Elrs is such a good protocol that it even works without the antenna lol
I forgot to put the antenna on my VTX once, it still worked but the signal wasn’t great. You shouldn’t power them on without an antenna either for the same reasons as your radio, basically anything that transmits shouldn’t be powered on without an antenna, this probably applies to receivers with telemetry too.
Solid advice, especially about lipo voltage. Keeping the pack above 3.5v/cell at landing will increase its overall life. I get well over 500 useful cycles before they hit the 'cliff' and have to be retired. Been at this since 2018 and I still fly 12 to 30 times a day. Whoops are my thing.
@@DanielJohnFPV You know it. Got over 2,000 hours actual air time in my thumbs. In still air, I can put my little Mobula8 anywhere I like. I fly in Angle mode, in a small one-bedroom apartment, 3 minutes at a time. Great fun.
Nice video Daniel, I put a rubber band round my batteries to keep the balance lead in check. As a bonus it also gives some nice extra grip on the pad ;-) Also use it to keep the empties from the charged and the balanced. No rubber band = empty Rubber band round the balance lead = charged Rubber rand cross wise = balanced. Easy system and keeps me in control of around 40 packs in various Amp sizes. But I still need my battery checker ;-)
Late reply here, but agreed! I ripped off a 4S balance lead last week and I think it was a prop hitting it after running into a trailer I was trying to swoop under. JST connectors are definitely a pain, but if you are halfway decent with a multimeter and follow basic electrical safety, it's really not bad!
Thanks! I’m pretty happy with it - especially for the price. The built-in 1W ELRS is really nice. It’s a little more plastic-y than I like, but that just means you can’t really throw it around. I would buy it again. If you wanted to spend a little more money you could go for the Boxer Max or the TX 16, and if you wanted to spend a little less, I might try out the pocket. I haven’t tried either of those, but I’ve heard people I respect suggest them.
I like my $70 Radiomaster pocket more than my $200 DJI FPV3. Definitely going ELRS on my first true FPV quad. My FPV 3 will be relegated to the Avata 2 until it dies.
5:18 happened to me. Balance lead cut middle of flight, and I hear cable flying around, be careful if two different cells' balance cables contact each other in good case your battery will be burnt or in bad case your whole drone.
The radio will still be attempting to send power through the antenna. Unless you turn off TX somehow (may be possible in the menu), it's a good idea to attach the antenna. Attaching it is definitely the easier way
I made my most expensive FPV mistake 2 weeks ago. I did not setup my Tango 2 to receive telemetry. My Goggles 3 blacked out while flying a week old $450 quad and when I hit gps rescue it flew off into a mountain marsh area with super thick shrubs and grass. I knew I would never find it again but I still spent almost 2 weeks searching that area. Had I just told my Tango to discover the sensors which I had enabled in BF I would have had the coordinates of where it went down in my Tango.
@@DanielJohnFPV yeah especially a brand new one and it was the most fun quad I have ever owned. The replacement gets here next week, but think of all the batteries and the upgraded charger I could have purchased instead!
I would add to the list of beginner mistakes: When learning to fly, don't mount expensive cameras like GoPro or Osmo Action on your drones. Learn to fly first ;)
Hey battery companies I have a great idea. Remove the balance lead and put a plug. Include the wire you would’ve separate. Then it doesn’t get in the props. Or be to short to tuck or so long it’s a pain.

I turned on my boxer crush for the first time without an antenna because I didn't know it and only saw the sticker later. This was about 1 minute and I only fly the sim to gain experience. How do I know if I've destroyed something?
Maybe just go out to a field somewhere and fly it slowly and low to the ground. See if there's a noticeable difference in range. It's probably fine, though.
You are wrong at one thing....all antennas are made to remove and putback for only specific number of cycles....removing antennas for every flight is not at all a good idea...it degrades your life of antenna and radios antenna connector as well...so better use a hard case instead of removing it...
