Charlie, you are a true treasure to those of us who are trying so hard to become satisfied with our artistic adventure. Thank you so much for Reasonably Fine Art Talks.
Thank you Charlie. It’s truly amazing to hear your beautiful stories and memories you shared with Richard Schmid. So sorry for your loss. Richard is truly a loss to the entire art fraternity around the world. I loved him too. Never had the chance to meet him but felt his generosity through his online demos and his generous book. Your tribute is beautiful. Could feel your heart cry. You seems to be an amazing person yourself. Thank you for making us part of your precious journey. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Thank you! Who doesn't like Richard Schmid stories! Anyone who met an painted with him were given a true gift. I wish I had had the opportunity. Enjoyed!
I was just re-reading one of my Artist's Magazines(Jan2000) with an article about Richard. He's always been one of my favorite artists. I couldn't remember when he had passed, so I ran across this video while Googling it. Thanks for a lovely look into that side of his life!
Just came across this wonderful eulogy to Richard Schmid. Wish I could also have known about him sooner. Book tour will help keep his memory and instruction alive. I have his Alla Prima ll
This was beautiful, I hung on to your every word about the wonderful man that Richard Schmid was beyond being the master artist that he was in our lifetime. I always wished that I could've been privileged to have met him one day. My condolences to us all, a great one has transcended.
His light will continue to shine. Your heartfelt tribute is so appreciated. Your bookclub idea is a generous gift of his legacy to those of us who did not have the fortune of his company. Thank you!
Hey Charlie, great talk about Richard...thanks for sharing. I send you, Nancy, his daughters and all those saddened by Richards passing my love and condolences. I met Richard when he painted the Captains portrait at SVAC and he autographed Alla Prima for me....he also encouraged me to squint when painting....
Love your Bridge painting 💕… it’s sounds like being in the Putney class was a once in a lifetime experience and opportunity that was priceless. I came across Richard’s artwork a year ago and found his art interesting and wish I came cross out sooner.
Just want to say I love your talk shows Charlie. I bought Richards book about 4 yrs ago and did the charts with his colors he used. I got stuck and ended up e-mailing Nancy which helped me understand a little more. Well we ended being facebook friends and that's when Richard requested to see my artwork. I was crazy and scared to death to show him. So I faded out and read his book which he made me laugh a little and did he have a sweet tooth. Richards work is wonderful and amazing. So I so wanted to meet the both of them and thought that if I did I would bring Richard strawberry shortcake. So 2 or three days ago Molly sent me an e-mail and told me about Richard I was very sad to here and also thought about Nancy and the family. So needless to say I sent for a couple of other items which I will enjoy. Thank you Charlie for speaking of Richard and the time you had with him. All the Best Deborah
Thank you for this insight. I only discovered Richard's work about 10 years ago and it's had such an impact on my art. I was lucky enough to receive his Alla Prima book as a gift a couple of years ago and there's probably not a week that goes by without me referencing it. He sounds like a wonderful person to have known and will be missed by so many - but what a truly phenomenal legacy he leaves behind!
I have just come across this and want to thank you, Charlie, for sharing your feelings and memories of your time with Richard. Of course, I love everything Richard Schmid so this was a delight to find. Thank you.
This is really a heartfelt tribute to a man who valued intelligence. I would be honored to become part of the "book tour"....and I will commit to doing the dreaded color chart. Thanks for being Charlie.
Thank you Charlie for sharing your experiences and honoring Richard. I have been a fan for many years and am fortunate to have met Richard on several occasions. I have and treasure his books and videos. You are so fortunate to have known him so well.
I admire your honoring Richard Schmid with this Tuesday's "Reasonably Fine Art Talk." Well done, and I am sure it has been comforting for many of you who were/are "Putney Painters", who knew and painted with the great artist. Wonderful remembrance the good times shared.
Was fortunate to meet and talk to Richard at the RCVFD art auction the last three years he was there. I have a signed copy of Alla Prima and yes I have done the color charts. :-)
WOW, thank you much Charlie! It was a SHOCKER to me to find out about Richard's passing because I just found out 2/3 days ago! I had no idea! I had the opportunity to meet the master back in 2008 or so when he came to Atlanta, for an art conference. I was a member of the Portrait Society of Atlanta then. I have recently renewed my membership. I missed the date to register for the conference and BLEW THAT CHANCE! He is a GREAT INFLUENCE in the way I go about art. I have his books and videos. Charlie, I want to thank you for giving me some COMFORT about his passing. This 30 minute post here, has eased my grief enough to where his demise is at least somewhat...PALATABLE. I want to thank you for it. I also want thank you for sharing some stories and pictures in the life of this MASTER OF PAINT. I salute you Charlie.
Thank you for giving a fan of Richard Schmid a intimate view into the life and company of this great artist. If it’s not too late for me to enter the book club and the opportunity of receiving the Alla Prima Part 2 please count me in. Thank you Charles…
Thanks so much Charlie. You really brought Richard and the Putney Painters experience to vivid life in your stories. Which is exactly how we keep people like Richard alive. ❤️❤️❤️
Wendy - go to the 'contact' form on my website (www.hunter-studio.com) and get me your email address and I'll set up getting you the floating copy of Alla Prima II.
Just a note, Alla Prima 2 is available directly from Richard Schmid, or now from Nancy. I bought it directly several years ago instead of lining Amazon’s pockets. Thank you Charlie for giving us more great stories of such a wonderful person.
That’s such great news. The used books outlets & sites are all going off Amazon who is allowing scalpers to rip off their customers for massively huge margins. This should be illegal!! But I digress. I’m so glad to hear there’s another way. I’ll have to look into that.
I now is painful to remember …and to quickly is a great regret…teacher can change our lives, because my father was a teacher,a great man .I heard your soul crying to.Remembrances is heaven, a lonely place in the world where we can,t be pitching out .Sorry for my English.I’m a debutante,I’m soooo scared,I’m to old to begin properly to painting and and I have the right hand with some on problems but I’m stubborn too .Before I find you i watched a video Dennis Sheehan and Stuart Davis.I can copy almost everything because I have patience but of course I’m not satisfied,I lean after TH-cam mixing color and I buy some books about composition by Ian Roberts and I try to understand. I’m glad o find you.
I think the book club is a great idea. Funny thing I was watching a TH-cam last night on various studio set ups and that book was in a studio and was highly recommended. I had written the name down. So sorry for the loss of your friend.
please consider me for the book tour, my signed copy from his presentation in Evanston, Il I think it was in the 90s.... disapeared from my studio during an open studio. But... HA my name is in it.......
How does one do the charts for the book if one does not have the same paints as he used? Is it a process adaptable to any set of points? I see that people who have made the charts sometimes keep them as a valuable reference, but then one is stuck with the same paints for ever, and not everyone does that, nor do you.

You are a great guy too! Kindness is something we really can’t get enough of in our lives.

Great talk. Loved Richard Schmid style and generosity. He left us better in all things. I lift my glass while standing on the ladder of life. Bravo!
Thank you Charlie, that was very nice and comforting at this time.
Seems I share a birthday with Richard....5th October, wish I’d known of him before from Europe, would have loved the community. Thinking of you Nancy.

Love that last quote!
Thank you Richard for sharing, much appreciated. Very informative..
I want to read Alla Prima so bad. I just found out about this channel. Been on a Richard Schmid binge for about three days now, getting in all I can.
Just got mine in. If you can, get it
Thank you for this. What a great man, and what a deeply nourishing 30 minutes. In gratitude.
So very interesting talk. Thank you

Thank you Charlie 🌷
Thank you for sharing such beautiful memories of Richard.❤️🎨
Already read the book prior to seeing this but I'll be happy to accept the money. It has been the best art book I have ever read.

Thx Charlie. I’d love to read it and do the charts. But it is so expensive! Love Richard smiths work. Thank God he kept realism alive

Nìce thoughts about Richard. Ì got his book and his DVDs. He's amazing to watch. Sorry you lost your good friend. ❤
I remember him in the 60s in Chicago in Chicago
Thanks for the heartfelt remembrance, Charlie, ... and RIP, Richard. (I already have enjoyed and recommend the book.)
This Pittsburgh gal who used to go to Houserocker concerts would love to participate!!! Lovely video, Charlie and so heart-felt.

Could you please give me the address of Nancy where I can order the book direct. Thanks.

Wonderful memorial to a great man. Thanks. I would love to read the book as part of the book club. Great idea.
Very sad day for sure… so sorry to hear he has passed to greener pastures. He was a great artist 👨🎨 🎨 🖼

I would really like to read that book. As a matter of fact I’ve always wanted to read and learn from that book.
Who are some of the greats(artists/outstanding students ) from him ?
I want a relationship like Richard and Nancy have
please consider me for the book tour, my signed copy from his presentation in Evanston, Il I think it was in the 90s.... disapeared from my studio during an open studio. But... HA my name is in it.......
I'd like to read it , Thanks
I’d like to read all’s prima 2. Thank you
I just got the book for Christmas. I'm not convinced it was worth the price. Very wordy, durdy and lots of photos of his paintings.

Paints are paints. Values are values.
Oops! Sorry for the name confusion I meant to say Charlie..hope you don’t mind!
