Off-Grid Houseboat, Generator repair, will it ever work again?

Taking advantage of being at the home port. Harbor Freight 3500 generator needs a new invertor module and a fresh carburetor. Taking the generator apart to replace the old parts with the new. Hoping to remember how to reconnect everything so that it runs like it is meant to operate. First time in our lives seeing a Bull shark in this area. It was never heard of seeing them this for inland of back bayous. Installed a new VHF radio so that we can better contact the bridges. Also may be able to contact other boaters on the water. Tried fishing a local pond for bait to use on jug lines. Also trying out the new Set Power portable refrigerator. It makes things easier not needing ice and because the fridge doesn't need ice it leaves a lot more room for supplies.

That darn fuel we get now days, just don’t last.
I use non ethanol and marvel in it, now every month I run the generator for one hour. and run it out of gas.
I’m sure your better then myself at your maintenance, it sure looks like a great spot you have on the water for your boat.

@mrk2163 I'm a strong believer in marvel mystery oil myself, good for everything. I normally run all my engines often. Crazy thing is the gas did not go bad. Since I knew it was acting up, and was not using it, I kept forgetting to run it. Fortunately the jets on HF engines are on the small side it shouldn't take to much to clean. I had a new carb so I just went with it. Plan to keep the old for a spare, maybe, the new are very inexpensive.

Crank it and undo the the fuel line going to carb and spray carb cleaner through it while running .

@brokenarrow2835 I had run a heavy dose of carb/injector cleaner in the fuel and ran it a few hours with the choke almost full choked. It helped a lot but still had the uneven lope to it.I had a brand new carb for it laying around already, so went ahead and changed it. I will take the original carb down and clean up the jets and keep it for a spare. The jets on the harbor freight engines run on the small side, so it doesn't take much to make the engine not run correctly.

Dry gas it's got some humidity turned droplets in the carb/tank i think. Days of fog has done that to me.

@Timewalkerv I can see that happening with eternal gas. She running like silk now. I probably should have drain the bowl first before changing carbs. Next time if it does this I will definitely drain the bowl.

@@BoondockingCajunstyle I went today and looked at them at harbor freight. I’ve not made up my mind yet but I’m leaning towards the 5000 inverter/generator that’s dual fuel as I want to run it on propane.
