It really does. I remember when Kearse made that miracle catch on the sidelines I broke down and started crying. We were really about to win back to back Super Bowls. I was still crying for awhile after, but for different reasons
Something we will never see again with the current rule changes trying to make it safer pete and the legion of boom gave us the chance to see the beauty of physicality and mental toughness and determination that we won’t see again in the same way it was very special
great interview Sherman! I'm glad to see your friendship with the coach. glad the media was wrong with all the negativity. Seahawks 2023- 2024. GO, TEAM,
They had a GREAT DEFENSE, but I think that Coach Carroll was one of the, if not the, best defensive backs coach ever in the NFL. And you Mr. Sherman fit in with it perfectly!
I remember one of the most impressive parts about that defense was how they essentially repeated and stayed dominant after losing Walter Thurmond.. man that defense was fun.. deep.. dominant..
My gosh that secondary was otherworldly. Kam calling shots, playing responsible, with the occasional crushing hit. Early flying around like a fighter jet, covering as much ground as anyone in the history game. Then you had Sherm, who as anyone knows was THE premier shutdown corner in the league for almost 5 years. 2nd to last Was BB, the the handsiest corner I've ever seen, got away with more PIs in a season than anyone else in 2012-13. Then there was Walter Thurmond III, the most underrated member of the Legion of Boom. Talk about a shutdown nickel corner, unbelievable against smaller slot guys. That secondary was just too good, during a time when the NFL was truly bought in to this pass heavy, safe leagu.concept.
As a falcons fan we were super stoked to get Dan Quinn as a defensive minded head coach. Once he was hired, everybody raved about how he helped create the legion of boom. After his "reign" in Atlanta, it was too clear that he was not the definsive guru that everyone made him out to be. I was beyond stoked to hear he was going to Dallas. In his last season in ATL he took over being definsive coordinator as well as head coach. This was my last chance thinking he was going to turn our defense around and we had a worse defense when he took over. Nice guys, players favorite coach, but not a winner by any means. And as much as it hurts to bring it up, Dan Quinn is the true reason for the 28-3 comeback loss. Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Devonte Freeman(amongst others) all did their jobs well in 2016. Bottom line is, when youre up by that much playcalling alone should keep you in the game. He completely ruined our 2nd half.
seems like an odd place to vent your frustrations with quinn. sure i understand the connection but it'a real stretch to bring a bunch of hate for quinn onto this vid where he's not mentioned once.
I think Quinn is a good example of the kinds of stress society puts on people. He was great as a DC: but we had examples like Bill Bellichick whose ego demanded more & got more credit than he deserved. (He _never_ learned to scheme offenses At All for instance but wanted to be an HC, not merely a DC. So he just cheated). So I think Quinn was asked by everyone "why aren't you {"MORE"} yet?" I think that everyone in the NFL has made it About Appearances. There are almost Zero Really Good HCs. Bill as I said, Andy Reid hates running the ball & the short pass game & has been bailed out by High-End Talent his entire career. HCs are over-worked & can't actually do all that their jobs entail. Look at McVay, possibly The Best of the bunch. But he couldn't _make_ Jared Goff learn what he wanted him to & other players have demanded trades etc. You can't please everyone. Stafford does better under his schemes that allow for some freedom to adjust, Goff needs the more complete structures of a Ben Johnson where he doesn't have to innovate. We're all different. Even what Sherman is saying here speaks to this: "we bought in to your philosophy." I myself will _never_ do that. Nothing in life to me is so simple as to be encompassed by One Man's philosophy. But I'm not the majority. Most players feel a _need for_ having something like that spoon-fed to them, can't play for the Greater Whole of The Team _without_ such a thing. Motivation is something I have to (I've coached) bring in a different way. We're all different. Quinn should make a Conscious Decision to remain a DC & consciously decide he is happy as that. _Then_ he will start innovating again. But not until he does those conscious things.
I love the Brandon Browner him and Bam Bam put the fear in every receiver coming across the middle, lol, and allow sherman to optimize his specialites as the brain, and browner was the bruiser! I feel like Witherspoon is PC's browner with way higher football IQ, and Tariq is his Sherm, and our defense is about to catapult into top 10 this year 100%. Will never be LOB 2.0, but crazy to think OG Bobby Wagz is part of the next special young, hungry unit of freshman and sophomores PC has been craving for years, as his program is really ran like a college program...
Sherm was a great tackler, look up the Cowboys game his rookie year, or what he did to Goff. ET3 was a heat seeking missile. Ask gronk. That was the Legion of BOOM, the young hawks are the Legion of ZOOM. They aren’t allowed to hit like the old gen, this team is built on speed. Zoom zoom! Go Hawks!
Cant believe we got rid of Pete. With a damn Winning Record?!! I am very excited to se what McDonald does, but damn I miss Pete! He's HOF coach and the GOAT of football on general. Like college/NFL hes massively successful. A true football genius!!! Miss you Pete!
Single season I 'd say 85 Bears and 00 Ravens get the top spot but 13 Seahawks aren't far behind. Longevity wise that era in Seattle and 70s Steelers could be the top 2.

Oh they can definitely touch those teams. We completely dismantled an historically great offense with Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl. The hawks also led the league in points scored against for 4 years in a row, which had never been done before.
The Hawks did it during an era that placed structure and rules to help offense thrive. Plus, the Hawks did it for 6 years.... Like Pete said, numbers don't lie.
They led the league in fewest points allowed (231), fewest yards allowed (4,378), and most takeaways (39). They were the 1st team to lead all 3 categories since the 1985.
The statics do not back up your claim. Not only that, but the Legion of Boom played in the player safety era. Can you imagine the legion of boom being allowed to hit and lay out receivers like the Bears and the rest did? Kam might have murdered someone!
Great interview. All these years later that SB loss still hurts so bad.

As a long-suffering Seahawks fan, watching Pete and John tear that atrocious roster apart in 2010 and rebuild it was amazing
This defense had an amazing run. Fast, physical, and smart. Numbers dont lie. Pack of Wolves!!! LOB

Dam they were fun to watch
With that defense and offense should won more championship should had went down as a all time team
Rivals that 2000 Ravens D & those legendary 80s Bears defenses (though I wasn’t alive to witness those 🐻 teams)

The real MVP of that defense was the syringe that juiced all those secondary players up
What's it like being paralyzed from the neck up?
Dude killed the Seahawks run when they were barely taking off. I Ain’t even a hater y’all were too good for just 1 bowl.
Bra it was a mob call 💯no way Pete wanted to throw it on the 1 with 2 timeouts left and 30+ seconds😡

did you know he was old lol
Yeah this definitely was a kid that made this comment
Nah duh n****
Was outta his prime going against a receiver who was getting his career started. Don't blame him for retiring after having a HOF career.

Orange Crush, Steel Curtain, Tampa under Dungy, Bears defenses, etc, etc. The Legion of Boom wasn't even close
