Seeing bass playing of this quality from such a good guitarist is pretty inspiring. Most others probably would have just "played" this part without much attention to dynamics or articulation, etc. and let a bunch of the notes ring out, but he's playing all his notes really short here, to better lock in with the drums and provide a choppier percussive feel. A subtle detail but a very important one nevertheless. Nicely done!

@DaltonMunnal Actually in this case it IS a triplet - 16th note triplet into beat 1 of the repeat of the riff. So its not actually a gallop which would be a sequence of three 16th notes followed by a 16th note rest or some permutation thereof.

@Strignid Nolly is touring as bassist for the upcoming tour and is co-producing the new album. He was going to fill in on guitar but Mark got involved so took over duties straight away when the bassist left due to personal reasons. Nolly plays in PeteyG's band RedSeasFire, really worth checking out by the way.
Nolly was so happy when he first joined the band. And now here we are lol.

@choadchafer Nolly is from a band called Red Seas Fire and is a long-time friend of the band, and co-producer for the new album. The bassist you're talking about (Tom Murphy) left months ago, and Nolly has been playing bass live in the meantime.

@Shipps941 I mean really, Misha explained what it was in Djent Set. Playing a power chord with 4 strings instead of playing 3 so you get a metalic "djent" sound.
hey misha im looking for a little friendly studio tip, if you would be so inclined as to help a brotha out how do you layer your bass tracks? do you double track, or just eq multiple copys of the same track maybe? as well if you would be willing to share which amp models have you used on the pod x3 to get good bass tones?
@HorizonGeetar93 It's when you flick your fingers to hit a string, it is one of the many techniques bass players use to play triplets.

I'm pretty sure he wont reveal his exact bass settings.. On a pod he used to kinda split the bass signal and eq them differently. Other was heavy on bass and treble with nearly no mids and other was a mid heavy distorted signal. When blended, it sits in the mix pretty well.
