    Im new to ink after 30 years ago at art school. Wow how things have moved on. I work in traditional oil and acrylic mostly. I used the ink on my canvas one gesso’d and one not I instantly loved their properties. So excited to see more from you your technical knowledge is so hopeful.

    Really nice video, thank you. I love the lines/sections you make. So simple but wouldn't occur to me!BTW, no need to shake alcohol inks unless they're a metallic, or "mixative" (as Ranger calls them) -with a ball bearing inside. I use washi tape too, or sometimes yellow Frog Tape, the least sticky of all painters' tape.

    If you use resin over alcohol inks on tiles, do you have to use a sealer to protect the ink before pouring resin or can you go straight in with resin after the ink dries?
    You’re really talented!!

    • @christinehebden4012
      @christinehebden4012 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You so have to seal it first. Not always but I wouldnt chance it, the resin will react to the alcohol inks and you will get dents and creases in your resin. I've found a regular clear spaypaint sealer works fine.

    I love the Ranger / Tim Holtz Alcohol inks that you can buy at Michael's. The nibs are tiny in comparison to the nibs on the pinata bottles. Therefore it's easier to control. Both brands are pretty similar.

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lori McGarrity you can but it will impact how the inks react to that area. It’s best to try and not over handle the paper. I’m not sure what else in an actual wipe other than alcohol.

  • @SpanishRose315

    Hi Jane, I recently started watching your videos and I love them. I am learning some new techniques and I find it very resourceful the information you have here. I also work with resin, but I am just starting and would like to use some new ways and create art, I do smaller projects. I do have a question you had mentioned the Legion paper, when using your blender and the extender, can I use this same technique you show here without the Legion paper, and use canvas for example? Not sure if you mentioned it already but when you finish your ink project using these techniques do you have to seal the paper or just let it dry and then add it to, in your case MDF, do you glue it? How is the process after creating your ink art? Thank you so much for sharing your work and expertise. xx

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      iCrafto I have e- classes coming out soon to answer all of this but yes you can use canvas. You have to prime and gesso it. As for gluing, I gave a video in mounting yupo to wood panel. There is another in sealing. Cheers thanks for watching

      MilkShimmer if you’re sensitive to smell then the clean up solution is best as it has low odour. Isopropyl alcohol can be very strong if not used in a well ventilated area. They work pretty much the same otherwise.

    Ranger inks is the other popular brand. I have used them and they have a lot more colors to choose from. There are at least 70 different colors! I believe they work the same as Pinata.

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Erika Fierce yes there are
      Actually a number of brands in the market today. I prefer piñata over ranger even with less colour option because I find them to be a more vibrant ink. They don’t run when using resin over top and they don’t fade.

    • @amorin329
      @amorin329 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JaneMonteith, Jacquard Pinata Alcohol Inks absolutely DO fade over time. Unfortunately all alcohol inks fade over time, thank goodness there are several products to seal our artwork that will slow the process, including epoxy resins that have UV blockers added which will also help to delay the yellowing of resin which will also happen over time.

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I’m just wondering if you seal your wood panels before you work on it with the inks?

    • @KiwiJane1
      @KiwiJane1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katie Spencer-Millan she doesn’t put the alcohol ink on the wood, she mounts the inked Yupo papers to the wood. Other videos explain.

    Can you use alcohol instead of the clean up solution?
    Thanks for sharing your techniques!

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Julie Rathe yes. They work the same except isopropyl alcohol has a very strong odour. Clean up solution has none.

    Hi there. Stunning videos. Just a question: is the 91% Isopropyl Alcohol something you use to get some different results from the alcohol blending solution? Or they can be used to get basically the same effects?

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isabella Resca isopropyl alcohol works the same as the Jacquard clean up solution except the Jacquard has low odour. These products work differently to blending solution in that the dry much faster and lift colour and sheen.

    • @JaneMonteith

      Monica Eggleton Hi Monica. No, not at all. In fact, I find the resin enhances the colour! 😊

    Just spray H2O on the back of a piece of Yupo, and it will not move at all...especially with a piece of plexiglass or glass underneath...will stay wet for days...you can turn and turn your piece for days.so no need for tape...unless you want borders...and then you just have to cover the edge of the paper, not stick to the backing

      Rod Templeton maybe try adding some rubbing alcohol and see what happens! I’m sure you can use them for something creative 😊

    Jane, since I discovered your channel tonight I have spent the last 5 hours watching your videos (Yes, I have OCD). Very impressive!! I have a question though. Would you consider trying out some of your techniques on less expensive supplies so that the crafters that can't afford the good Yupo paper, etc. can still see what they can get. I use glossy card stock, glossy photo paper, ceramic tiles, glass items, and transparency sheets myself but I really do dream of buying Yupo paper one day. Now it's a much better chance since Michaels just started carrying Tim Holtz Yupo paper, only 5x7 but a 10 pack for 10.00 I think with the 50% coupon it's not bad so I will finally be able to get some. Also, any particular reason you do your artwork on Yupo and then attach to the basswood versus ceramic tile which is so popular? Are you doing it because it is different or did you have a reason not to care for the tiles. Your work is gorgeous and I also just love abstract.

      Lori McGarrity thanks so much for watching!! 💕😊😘 I will probably do a video on some photo paper. But I would advise you to buy your yupo paper in sheets. You can then at Currys! Art supplies at Michaels are extremely expensive. Even with the coupon, currys is cheaper. 🙏🏼

      I have heard that sign shops have lots of leftovers you can get, for practicing and the backside of "Garage sales, for rent, for sale, etc signs are also good, very good, same as Yupo but not as thick.

      I have found working with photo paper or glossy card stock works best when you use the reverse side of the paper. I saw that on another video. And also if you spread around a few drops of alcohol on the paper before you start it makes the ink move more.

    Great tutorial! Can washi tape be applied to the artwork to do multiple masks without damage?

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Kunoff I would use 3M scotch tape if you’re doing multiple washes so it won’t break down. Washi is made of paper so just to be safe. I have a video on the best tapes to use on yupo too 😊

    • @MarkKunoff
      @MarkKunoff 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jane Monteith thank you! I saw that video too, really helpful. So, the 3m "magic" tape, or the regular "scotch"? Or, either? And, I can lay it onto cured artwork without it coming off? Thanks again for your reply!

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Kunoff yes either the magic tape or expressions tape. I would test first over a scrap piece of cured ink before trying it over your artwork.
