Teachable moment. They completely replaced the floor because it was rotted out. However, did not address root cause, which is moisture buildup beneath the floor. They build a 5 sided box, with the 6th side just dirt. There's no ventilation, vapor barrier, or treatment. And, the sides of the box are brick, which is porous and lets in more moisture. You can see in the "new sub-floor" section of the video, the dirt is already moist inside the structure. Also, at the 0:39 mark you can see the broken floor joist. It has signs of bug damage. If they didn't spray anything to address this, the new wood they installed will get infected, even with removing the old wood. Years from now the floor will rot out again. Very cool build but this one thing can cause a lot of problems later.
Hello Yes your logic makes sense This house does have ventilation to the sub floor as required. The cause of the rot was termites not moisture The termites have been treated and concrete stumps and ant caps were used. I can guarantee you the floor will last a lifetime or even 10
It was a big team effort! Lots of help from lots of trades and people workin on top of eachother. A lot can be accomplished with the right skills and tools.
Gorgeous transformation! A tremendous amount of work, but worth the time & effort. Love the stone fireplace & mantel! Nice job outside too. The mini horses are so cute!
I love watching Reno shows like this and it was a wonderful surprise to hear an Aussie!!!! A great job, especially love the window finishes. Thanks guys.

Really Beautiful Home!!! Wonderful Job! I really like the before and after pictures of each room! Really good Video well Made! Most renovation videos won't show exact pictures of each room in order of before and after. So as a viewer we are able to see exactly how each room turned out.
This was awesome! Your video came up in my feed and I thoroughly enjoyed watching this magnificent transformation!! Gives me hope for my family's future remodel/build! Those fireplaces were on point!! Loved how the LR one turned out especially! Gorgeous!
Thanks so much, I love getting messages like this. When do you start your build? Will you do much DIY? If so checkout all the short videos I've created, if there are any missing topics, let me know
Thank you so much, it makes all the time filming and editing worthwhile. I love seeing these types of videos on TH-cam so I thought I would make my own
The house is looking good Crandell. Wish I could be there to help you. I miss painting & all the other stuff. Also if I like to wash windows, dishes & do laundry.
Hi you had a good idea but you should have layed down gravel and then put Poly on top and put weeping tile around the house outside to keep the moisture from the dirt under the floors.
I wish i had more knowledge on the subject. Things can always be tuned and dialed in with the aid of a dyno and software. The ECU definitely plays a part on the newer more electronic versions of the 1kz pump. You can always clock the pump bit by bit and test drive the car to see how it effects things
Here in Denmark , it is the cheapest to tear down and build up new. Mainly because of tons of regulations , there is also lots of things that you - by law - is restricted from by DIY. If you are a craftsman , able to do a lot by yourself ( and family / friends ) , you can renovate and get a cheap house. And an old house can have a lot of soul , that NO new house has , and NO money can buy that. In Denmark we build brick houses , and old can have realy nice bricklaying work , with lots and lots of beatifull details. Those bricklaying details would be very very costly implementing in a new house.
Plenty of information if you watch the build series, there are 12 or so episodes that take you through the renovation week by week. Roof was redone because we removed load bearing walls. We installed roof trusses to span from one external wall to another which also meant we could have a raked feature ceiling on the inside all while being able to reuse the old tin roofing.
Excellent video. I have a question. What are the sub floor slabs used in the beginning, before the final floor is installed? Something like osb? Thanx.!
You will find all of your answers here: th-cam.com/play/PLVSLJ3g7Q9rYOOWq86ztRdOWpu_h45Veq.html But if I understand what you're asking the product is called yellow tongue chipboard flooring
Renovation looks great. Not a fan of the tile combination though in the shower area, I would have used the same tile thru out. Or I would have used something flashy likes gold, silver or stainless looking tiles or just some simple bright prime colors painted on stucco. I’m commenting on it because I was really thinking for a while that the smaller tiles looked as if it was part of the before renovation.
Wood is quicker, easier and ultimately cheaper to work with. It's strong and allows us to run cables and pipes easily as well as easily and quickly being able to install plaster sheets. Labour costs a lot in Australia and that's why we use efficient building systems to keep costs down. Brick is used commonly for durable cladding but it's rare to see brick used as a structural element in most modern domestic homes.
I was thinking that the floor joists would not have been up to code, and I felt like the trusses were spaced too far apart to be up to code. At least in the states. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Mike Holmes 😂
Keen eyed viewers! I can promise you the floor and roof are up to the Australian standards. The roof trusses are engineered and installed to the supplied specifications. The bearers are a 90x90mm F17 rated timber at no more than 1500mm centres with 45x90mm joists at 450mm centres. The stairs have since had a balustrade installed but due to my employment and need to move on to other jobs I was unable to film some small things such as that.
Bricks dont need as much maintenance and some parts of the house were solid brick. it would have been a costly exercise when the money can be better spent elsewhere. Brick homes are very common in Oz and most people here have no issue with them

Beautiful. I like how they leave enough time, in the end, to view the finished product, unlike other renovations.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Amazing renovation, fantastic woodwork and space design.

The fact you did all of this work in 4 months is impressive. Renovations must be built different in Aussie Land

I just wondering would it be cheaper to build fresh from ground up?
absolutely not! Heaps of the framework, brick work, roofing and windows were fine to use along with many other things
I think not cause that brick work alone would cost more than arms & legs
Here in Denmark , it is the cheapest to tear down and build up new.

No, breaking ground and relaying foundation would already take up all the budget of just repairing lol

Well done all you aussie workers - I myself have a question, why was there not an external rail installed on the stairs ?
Didn't get round to filming it. I had to move on to the next jb before that got finished
13:37 I think that window is going to have a lot of bird striks!
Potentially! We hope not. It's quite protected by trees so not a major bird flight path

what a huge yard!!! you should've put a pool in!!!
This job was done in stages and there is a pool in the works!
Just wondering why there isnt any kind of covering or cement slab on the ground under the floor? Should that have some type of barrier?
why have a floor under the floor? what's the cement supposed to do?

That is one huge house. May I ask, why did you have to replace the roof wood? Good workers. Great job
Replaced the roof as structural internal walls were removed and we wanted to create a raked feature ceiling.
Amazing renovation. Very well done 👏 ✔️ 👍 also an excellent taste in decorating the house 🏠 😀

Nice work, I do wonder why the interior floor was done before the roof repairs, allowing weather to come in on the brand new floor.
we finished the subfloor so that we had a safe surface to work on the roof from. the roof was offf for only 2 days and the subfloor can be exposed to rain for months before it becomes damaged.
The real "brand new" flooring wasnt installed until the roof was water tight
