the harpsichord cadenza/solo is played so intentionally. not overly virtuosic, or showy, or fast, just sweetly played. you can hear the notes and phrases. and it included the trill at the end! i once heard a version that didn't include it and was disappointed lol. love!
APOLLO'S FIRE Orchestra and Jeannette Sorrell have done justice to this great work of art. When she played the cadenza poco con rubato it's just right and adds to the expression and excitement of it. Old Bach listening to this wonderful performance would jump for joy.

Only in the last 100 years. Not so much before. His style was not really revolutionary but more the closing of a musical era in terms of the styles he used. CPE Bach, his son, was more of an innovator and a source of inspiration to his contemporaries
@@gsm2424 Don't get me wrong. I love J.S. Bach!. But I am also aware of how W.A. Mozart did consider his son CPE Bach as a source of formal inspiration not the father. I agree that the work of J.S. Bach is monumental and deeply involving. I have nothing to repent from, at least on this count.
Why apologies for your beautiful harpsichord solo??? Whilst the whole piece is fantastic, Your Harpsichord solo is easily for me the most wonderful part of it, you say hang in the rest will return? I honestly wanted the Harpsichord solo to go on for ever! It's a piece straight from heaven! You should play it in cathedral! 😥😥😥😥😥 Tears of pure Joy! Thankyou 💖
Stunning performance. I love watching the look on the faces of you artists as the movement progresses...the energy, and the obvious love you have for what you are doing. Also, Jeannette, the expressions of your face as the harpsichord goes “at length with no regard for the other instruments” is great! Thank you all for your love of the music you play. It is a pleasure to both see and hear. Keep up the good work.
So beautiful to see musicians who truly love this piece and understand it well. I loved the pacing, that it was lively but they were lingering carefully to build on the feeling. Bravo!!!!
Very good. Really. Since I have a harpsichord player (There are not many of them in Sweden) in the circle of friends, I am very spoiled and picky when it comes to interpretations. Again. highest rating.
Of course..Music matters...Excellent playing! But those people look so happy and friendly...And you can hear that in their music! Should like to dance with the first violist , but I am stiff now! ( 81 years old)
A AL, despite a few technical errors, I also think Richter's cadenza is better than this one. But only the cadenza! Otherwise, Richter's Bach performances are of little interest to those of us who believe that it is important to restore the old music. Trevor Pinnock also play the cadenza very well.
Love her comments at the beginning. This is a particularly musical performance, not at all hurried. The engineers have achieved a nice balance between keyboard and the other instruments, not easy to do.
Did I see this correctly? Is this harpsichord made by Martin in Pennsylvania? I have a D-28 acoustic guitar and a Martin Custom which I gave to my son. Martin has crafted such great instruments. This is the first Martin harpsichord...incredible sound!
Am I the only one that hears the feedback noise? At some stages it is very audible, like at 3:57, also very present right after the cadenza at 11:22. Bummer.

Great interpretation. To fully realize the complexity of the harpsichord playing of this movement, watch the performance of Karl Richter, one of the greatest performers of Bach of all times at th-cam.com/video/xZiFRSofF7w/w-d-xo.html Instrument wise it is a denser performance and keeps a strict beat along the whole movement, nevertheless the performance is beautiful, and the fingering of Richter is indescribable.
A few words about the cadenza: It sounds like she is struggling, but it's not meant to be in a cadenza. On the contrary, when a musican performs a cadenza it should sound as if nothing is difficult to play.
Well Jeanette...it's not a race..Bach had plenty of time. He lived in a secure world guided by his profound sense of the almighty. I don't sense Bach in your interpretation

Agree. The cadenza is delicious and every note of it should be heard.

One of the finest of the Brandenburg concertos, and played with such expertise and feeling! I'm sure Johan Sebastian would be proud.

This is the sound I've been looking for in classical recordings.. what an amazing channel, Jeannette Sorrell and all the performers are fantastic.
omg feel so lucky to find this - very rare gem - what a performance and sound engineering - thx 4 sharing!

Merveilleuse interprétation ,BRAVO + de 10 fois ;-)
That harpsichord solo / cadenza is pure show off! Sheesh!!🔥🔥🔥

Loistava esitys, paras Brandenburg 5 mitä olen kuullut. Kiitos Videotuotannolle, ja erityisesti Audioinsinööri Tim Martynille, erinomainen äänitys!
My favorite of all!♥️🌹
Eccellente!
Great engineering too. Not easy to get this balance.
Do you ever wonder how Bach had this music in his head and then transcribed it to paper?
Both a mathematical genius and a romantic idealist

8:00 to 11:20, wow!
woua ! comment elle gère au clavecin ! Magnifique
Bach must be proud...
Delicia escucharlos for sure, and just plain good.
If I conducted and arranged this, I would include 3 cellos, and make them crescendo greatly.

From Music to Sex: Bach was madly inspired, period.
Great introductory remarks. Perhaps Jeannette took a course at UNSNDatH?
The solo is amazing. Especially the last part of it when you come back to main theme!
Jeannette Sorrell is considered one of the world's best living keyboardists.

He was very good at them, yes

Jeanette, you've got to speed up the Cadenza (8:00); your performance is to chopped up!

So much tenuto and rubato makes the line seem choppy and disconnected. IMHO. Also, the tempo seems a tad sluggish.
Too bad that in this presentation, the sound of the keyboard is barely audible most of the time.

TOO FAST! Where's the fire?
The playing is great but the changes in tempo are unforgivable the tempo should be strict.
Inappropriate and unwearable rubato : definitely awfull 👎🏼
On the contrary. The rubato is what keeps it from being metronomic.
Nice performance, mediocre harpsichord. What a shame.
