    I bought the 60 2.4 with my first Fuji camera, because it was inexpensive and equivalent to 90mm on 35mm film, which was my standard portrait length in olden times.
    I've bought a sold a bunch of Fuji lenses since, but still have the 60mm. Use it almost exclusively for portraits.
    I have the 56mm f1.2 also. It's OK, but kind of big, and I almost never use it wide open. I like portraits where the nose AND the ears are in focus.

    "Sharpness of these lenses? I mean.... Who cares" -> Thank you. So obvious, yet so rare to hear

      People seem obsessed by sharpness and dynamic range as if they were the most important features in photography gear.

    Had the 60mm, loved the color saturation and contrast that lens had. For the price you can get a used one it hits well above its cost.

    This is definitely the best portrait lens comparison for the Fuji X system out there!
    I would like to se a comparison between the 50mm f/2 and the 60mm f/2.4 because they are around the same price and would definitely give us an idea of which is the best budget friendly portrait lens.

    Great video, as always! Comparing the lenses in this way is much more valuable than simply showing test sheets and technical data (in my opinion). Watching your videos makes me love Fuji gear more and more :P

    The 60 2.4 is the best for your bucks and beat all fuji lenses on the roll test. And we all need a lens that rolls perfectly.
    Seriously, my favorite lens of those is the 90mm. Its continuous AF is very reliable and silent.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. The 60 2.4 dominated all my roll tests. ;)

      But the 56 is brighter and you can also shoot slower to be less focal distance. For portrait in the golden hour or in the blue hour it is better than the 90. For stolen or close-up the 90 is incredible. I'm in love with the bohke of 56.

    excellent video andrew, I had mostly written off the 60mm years ago, I must admit I didn't test it on any new bodies, its good to hear that there have been improvements, one thing I noticed was a larger variation of contrast between these lenses; in your video, something else to think about I imagine.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely there are some contrast differences. That's a good point and worth considering for anyone comparing.

    Thanks for a refreshingly different lens test! You have just redefined the term "Test Shot" - from just-boring(-test-shot) to beautiful-and-inspiring!
    I own and use both the 56 and 60 and I must say that in my opinion the 60 is a little gem! When ever I do a shoot for someone else, I always bring the 56 (especially if I am uncertain of the venue) to be able to blur as much as possible, BUT when I shoot for myself I often use the 60 instead! I just love the rendering transition from in focus to out of focus! This little lens delicate touch to the light rays passing trough makes "true to life magic" in almost a medium format way! (Look at in focus/out of focus transitions in the wooden parts in the pictures where the glass sphere/ball rests on the bench)
    Of course the 60 blur a bit less, but to use the special out of focus rendering as part of the composition is both fun and beautiful!

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks! yeah I want to shoot with that 60 more, now that my opinion of it had improved. I like how light it is.

    Thanks for doing this; it is fantastic to get your views on each of these. Also, I think the 60mm has greatly improved over time because of Fuji firmware updates, at least that is what I perceive.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There could be some truth there. But also, I'd say, improvements to camera bodies. A lot of the not great reviews I've read of the 60mm were done with the XE1, or other earlier gen Fuji X.

    100 thumbs up for this video, I really appreciate the work you put into it. And good to see that you can shoot decent portraits with any of these lenses. Personally I went with the 50/f2 because of the small size and light weight. What I really like about the Fuji system are size and weight, so for me as an amateur who mainly takes photos on vacation or on local hikes, a 50-140/f2.8 or 90/f2 simply does not make much sense.

    I just got the 56mm f1.2 with the XT2. My camera's viewfinder freaks out and flashes around when I am focusing, especially on the 1.2 end.. The lens focuses somewhat slow and loud (motor sound). Sounds like gears running. The photos are nice once focused, but overall, I''m not very happy with this lens. Great Shots Sir. Fabulous work!

    as a portrait photographer I really dig the much faster autofocus on 35 1.4 than it is on 56 1.2. The overall image quality is for sure a little bit more interesting on the 56 but the slow performance really let me miss some good shots in comparison to the primes of 35 or 16 mm. Have you ever checked the mitakon 35 mm 0.95? My new toy with amazing bokeh but really not that easy to handle due to the xt 3 s focus peaking which is not that well working in bright light situations unfortunately.

    Hey Andrew, agree with your comments about sharpness and this was a fun review while still having some good final thoughts. Speaking of sharpness, are you not disappointed with the sharpening and details problems with Fujifilm RAWs in Lightroom? Just wondering if you have a workflow for that? I tried Iridient X transformer and the files did look better but it was quite time consuming to convert the files and after conversion the dngs were quite a bit larger in file size compared to the RAFs. While I wouldn’t say I’m a total pixel peeper since I shoot portraits too, losing some detail by using Lightroom is still a shame.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't find I need to sharpen Fuji files unless I print. So when I bring them in to LR I just turn off sharpening. Later, if I want to print, I will apply sharpening to the JPG I've already output.

    • @JasondePlater
      @JasondePlater 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah interesting because your photos always appear sharp on TH-cam but that may be because I’m viewing them on an iPhone and they’ve been scaled down for video too. Good to know. 👍🏻

      I've heard that length is a struggle indoors but I already have the 35f2 which I adore so I'm tempted by the vastly different focal length. Also I'll mainly be trying to keep up with a kid and a dog so the speed off the 90 is very appealing. tbh I'm like a deer in the headlights and have no idea what to get. At least there isn't an 80mm to further confuse me...

    Awesome man. Thanks for taking the time to test these lenses. I can only imagine how much work it was! So, at the end of the day, do you think there is room in a kit for both the 56 and 90? Currently using the 56 but that 90 keeps calling my name!

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Man, that's a great question. My problem with the 90 is that 135mm prime focal length. A lot of times it's just gonna be too tight. I think if you are always doing studio and focal distance and low light performance doesn't matter, I'd get the 90mm before the 56. But for weddings and events, indoors, where sometimes space is tight and you need low light, I don't think the 90mm replaces the 56. For outdoor portraiture, where space is not limited, 90 might be better because of the weather resistance. What sort of shooting do you do?

    • @Chazyfizzlez
      @Chazyfizzlez 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Denae & Andrew thanks, Andrew! I mainly shoot outdoor natural light portraits, not too many head shots though. @clickcatalog on instagram if you care to look at the style of shots. Chazyfizzlez This video explains my problem everyday trying to decide which lens to use. I own an XT2 with the 56mm 1.2, 90mm f2, 50-140, 16mm 1.4, and the 35 f2. All of them are incredible! I struggle everyday to decide which one Im going to use. For just casual walking around the 16 or the 35 but the 35 f2 is actually a pretty good portrait lens for children, in which i have 2 kids myself so very handy. For headshots, definitely the 90...way better than the other 2. The image quality is better than the 50-140 and the 56 is just a little too close for me and can be a little awkward. I usually use the 50-140 for sports but I have my first wedding coming up in July and I'm prettt sure that it will be the perfect option for the ceremony. Probably use the 56 for the reception due to tbe low light capabilities. I hope this helped but probably not. In short, you cant go wrong with any of them.

    60mm is value... 56 is almost magic. 90 is fuji magic. 56APD is a rip off. 50-140mm is a different animal... almost cheating.

  • @photonephotography8596
    @photonephotography8596 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're right. 56mm f/1.2 is the worst lens of the Fujifilm. It has not just slow focus, but also focus hunting issues with an annoying focusing noise. I hope that Fujifilm comes up with a firmware update to fix the lens performance.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I didn't go so far as to say it's the worst. I love it's IQ and focal range, so it still sits on my X-T2 for portraits more than any other. But sure, it needs some improvement.

    • @photonephotography8596
      @photonephotography8596 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No doubt at all. The image quality is superb as all other Fujinon lenses (except the kit lenses). I've been a Nikon shooter since 1991, and have switched to Fujifilm for I fell in love with the colour rendition and the image quality. For what Fuji promises I feel frustrated more than normal because of the performance that I cannot get from such an expensive and primer lens. Fuji is known responsive and listen to their users-unlike Canon and Nikon. I still keep the lens although I have a cold hand for using it and only hope that the company will come up with a firmware update.

    Hello, where do you forget the 35 mm 1.4 which is also one of the best portrait lenses. And by adding 23mm 1.4 without them, your video loses half of its value. It's just not serious and professional. It's like removing half the alphabet and trying to type.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing wrong with that lens for portraiture, certainly. I didn't "forget" it. As I said in the video, this was a bout classic or headshot portraiture focal lengths. I would consider 35mm APS-C more of an environmental portraiture lens, and if I'd have opened things up that far there would have been another 6-8 lenses to contend with. Not really realistic

      Biuti. Give me some credit. I only shot fully extended at 140, as mentioned.

    • @biutichile1570
      @biutichile1570 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      only heard you where shooting wide open... and looking the pics they seemed to me quite similar angle of view to the 56mm (and wider than the 90mm) so asked to be sure... Sorry 🙏

    • @biutichile1570
      @biutichile1570 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      watching the downloaded jpgs I can see better the compression... probably on the car shot I was expecting a distinctly different crop and bigger bokeh balls for the 140, but as you didn't have space to go back and preserve the framing you shot that one at 90.6mm

    • @AndrewGoodCamera

    great Video, Andrew! I have 56 mm f1,2 and I love this lens. I could choose 56mm or 50mm f2 (I tested them both). the 50mm is much more faster, but I fell in love with the 56mm;)) I still have not regred that I bought it.
