I hadn't noticed that edging on the falloff. Very interesting. One thing I haven't totally loved about it is the quality of bokeh. It's got what many describe as "nervous" or "jittery" bokeh, which is most apparent with busy backgrounds (like foliage). I still love the lens, but it's definitely quirky.
i saw that in my copie too, that "dark" line. but honestly, i don't really find it very disturbing anyway... as you sayd, i d makes the image "Pop" more..
I guess the dark edge is an effect of the coating fuji uses to reduce CAs. I get the same effect at my 100-400, but I never had any CAs even at really high contrast subjects.
I just noticed this dark line in high contrast images taken withe XF 35mm f2! I was wondering what i was looking at. These lenses do have a very specific type of rendering going on, that dramatic, metallic look. Still, i dunno if im delighted with these lines. Two years later how do you feel about it?
So I know theres edge fall off in your images but I took a chance after seeing some other pixel peepers. Lens should be arriving Monday, thank you for the advice
Hi, got this lens few days ago but used and the aperture ring is guite hard to use. I saw in your video that you can move it with one finger. With my lens you can't do that. I never touched a new o e and I don't know how is normal.
hi there! I don't own the lens itself but those dark lines on high contrast areas looks like a chromatic aberration that has been autocorrected by decolouring it and setting it black. I'm a bit old-school at photography but I've done that a couple of times when processing, so I can guess Fuji can do the same in camera, and make it look like there's no correction. I don't know just thinking out loud. Nice video! very useful to get to know the lens, thank you!
If Fuji has a correction for CA in camera that should be the black outline in your photos man. If not i have no idea and it looks strange... Hope that is. Nice review man. Thanks
I've never seen this on any of my other fuji lenses. It has a characteristic of CA but I have no idea why it would show "corrected" in a raw file. I dont think it hurts the image much because I never see it unless I zoom in 300% . And its really rare. Like 1 out of 1000 photos might have it.
Fuji does 'bake' a lot of corrections into their RAW output. CA is one of them. Another is lens corrections. If you open a Fuji RAW file in Light room and go to the lens correction tab in the RAW filter it will have a sign saying something about the Fuji RAW. I am not sure if that is a good thing or not, but the lines are strange.
What is your basis for comparing and f/2.8 to an f/4.0? Just curious. I've recently switched from Canon to Fuji and am loving the Xt3 with the 16mm and just got the 50-140 delivered about five minutes ago!
Hı there, I had the same problem with the edges that contains light to dark transitions, I solve this problem in camera settings and switching the capture one from lightroom. So bring down your sharpnes to "0" and bring down your color to "-1" in camera and use capture one with fuji. You will notice that is the ADOBE making it harder...
I got the 50-140mm as well as the 90 mm in my bag. Wenn comparing both lenses at 90 mm und f5.6 the 50-140 stands no chance when it comes to sharpness. the 50mm F2.0 is far superior at 5.6 too. For a Zoom the performance is pretty good but can not beat a prime lens of very good quality. For that you have a lot of reach in a single lens.
very good eyes, i can agree there is an outline on some images that makes the images pop, but you really have to zoom in like 200 or 300% to notice that and it never disturbed me. shot 1000´s of images with it allready. I love the zeiss like pop. Currently working on a vlog i have shot with the 50-140 2.8 on a waterskiing event using AF-C coming soon
Hey man, awesome review...do the weird dark lines show in print as well? And furthermore, do you or would really prefer the XF 90 over the XF 50-140...or just both?
Yup, I do enjoy this lens. But I think my 90mm edges it just a little bit more. Thanks for the review. BTW, are you excited about the rumored wide angle lens (8-16mm)?
I don't know what it is, but after watching this a handful of times, my very own 50-140 is on its way! 😝😝😝😝 Anyway- fantastic review man I love your work and all the effort you put into your channel!!
You prolly dont care but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Gael Cullen thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Nice review like always. The "Dark line" might be the in camera lens correction. In Lightroom, under Lens Corrections, Builtet-in Lens Profile applied. Click it it will show This raw file contains a built-in lens profile for correcting distortion and chromatic aberration. The profile has already been applied automatically to this image.
I checked that. Turning off lens corrections still shows it. I also tried it in 3 different raw converters and all show the same thing. So still not sure if its processing in camera to the raw file or the lens is some how able to create it. I have not seen this on any other lens.
i find ALL fuji lenses very hard to manual focus. because they focus electronically or what ever it does. (they even changed a few with firmware updates) veryyyy different from my DSLR Lenses. this is annoying especially for video when you don't always want to be using AF. the distance and amount of turning you have to do is way to much.
94 VSN it’s the same with all mirrorless cameras basically. But there are a few Fuji lenses that have hard stops and distance markers. I don’t know why they all aren’t like that. 23mm f1.4, 16mm f1.4, 14mm f2.8
panasonic and sonyi lenses are like that too? i own the 56mm, 35mm, and 16-55. i hate manual focusing all of them. it makes want to switch back to a DSLR. or get a cinema camera for video
Zed ProMedia I have Panasonic and Fuji, on my panasonic the focus system works way better, it's like using manual lenses, really great experience, Fuji is really bad with manual focus, you feel the motors you hear the noise and in some lenses you turn, turn and moves so slowly the focus
I find it much easier just to use old manual focus Nikkor fast prime lenses for video as I don't like the wishy washy fly by wire manual focus on modern fuji lenses.
Hey zed better question I wanted to ask what would be your top Lens for portraits and weddings I sold my Nikon stuff to move to fuji and wanted to get your thoughts
That hard edge is interesting/odd. I'm an Apple Aperture holdout, and am curious if Apple's raw processing would yield the same results. Wondering if you would consider sending me the raw file with the trumpet so I can take a look at Apple's raw conversion.
I miss aperture & its lightning fast processing. I have lightroom & really don't enjoy using it. Aperture is the only reason I spent over $3000 on a iMac. Shame on Apple.
Aperture still works, despite Apple only committing to support through OS X Yosemite. In fact, I just updated my 12" MacBook to the latest rev of Sierra, and it feels like Aperture sped up a little. Not a long term solution since Aperture is officially EOL, but I will keep using it as long as I can. Like you, I find it so fast for the way I work. Making my selects, managing metadata, bulk image adjustments, flexible export and sharing options... Yes, it's a shame that Apple discontinued it w/o providing a viable alternative.
I've been working with X-Pro2 raw files with no problems. There is a footnote, however, indicating no support for compressed raw files in Apple's raw processor. In my offline conversation with Lee last night, he indicated that the photos in question were compressed raw, so I couldn't open them in Aperture.
I am looking to get into wedding and portrait photography and I am thinking about the following cameras: 1. Fuji X-T2 2. Sony a7ii Can you please give me your opinion?
Mark Bromley If you need ibis and fullframe bokeh get the a7ii. keep in mind the good G master lenses are very expensive. You should theoretically have slightly better lowlight performance but I’ve never owned the a7ii. Ive only owned the a7rii and it’s lowlight performance is much better than the xt2. There is also an a7iii coming soon so maybe wait? Now with the XT2 you have a really solid built camera with much faster autofocus, awesome jpg quality and better menu layout. All the native lenses are much cheaper and in my opinion some of the sharpest glass you can buy. More than 90% of them are all made of metal. You also get awesome customer support and frequent firmware updates. The camera also shoots 4k if you need that. Good luck
Thank you Zed ProMedia. So hypothetically speaking....based on the knowledge and experience you have garnered over the years, if you were starting out right now which would you go for?
I had the A7ii and now the X-T2. I do miss the IBIS of the sony (fuji don't have a lot of lenses with OIS) but a other than that, the fuji is just a better tool. If you have the time, wait for the A7iii, if they fixed the ergonomics it should be a very nice camera, but I also believe it's going to be priced above $2000 (well $2000-2200, not more than that) and the (good) lenss for sony are much more expensive than what you can get with fuji. Never buy a good body with cheap lens, it will disappoint you.
Thanks for the video, I just purchased a like new used lens From (eBay) . there is a constant hum like there is a motor running all the time, is this normal? Thank you in advance.
What camera were you using this with in the tests? What firmware was it on? Xt3 vs Xt2 vs Xt1 is very different in auto focus speeds for example. Also with others on here stating they do not get the black lines with the same lens, do you think this could be some form of camera setting like sharpening or contrast?
Hey bro if you had the 90mm and 56 1.2 would you still use this ? I guess im trying to decided which lens to get i have the 16-55mm f2.8 90mm f2 and 35mm f2 thoughts?
I switched from canon to Fuji but i'm not not very happy with my 50-140 f2.8 IS compared with my Canon 70-200 f4 IS. I love that lens, so sharp. Comparing my new fuji 50-140 f2.8 IS to Canon i can't even get it close, images with Xt2 and 50-140 in studio shooting kids, portraits or outdoors and indoors shooting sports are not the same thing, blury and "muchy" results, i was used to sharp eye lashes and hair, now i can't get it. What am i doing wrong?
Paulo Parreira that’s strange. Maybe you have a bad copy of the lens or an issue with it. Mine is very sharp. Sharper than any canon 70-200 I’ve used (f2.8 or f4)
Paulo, does the 50-140mm handle well against the primes you own, in low light ? I find it to be very fast in AF. I just think that f2.8 is not that fast, in terms of aperture, for low light, iin the fujis. Of the 3.. which do you prefer for low light ? I'd really like to have the 90.. but , without OIS.. i was thinking of going for the 50-140mm.. (tb falas português ?) ;)
V4D2 Após uns meses de uso aprendi a dominar melhor a focagem da xt2 e da lente. Neste momento faço todo o trabalho de estúdio com a 50-140 e tudo bem. Sim, sou Português 🙂
Paulo Parreira Obrigado, Paulo I ended up getting the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 for my Nikons. huge! but awesome. i don’t regret it at all. Still, the 50-140 is a really good lens. Not surprisingly i had the same learning curve, u seem to have had, when i got my Fujifilm camera. Mirrorless is different.. to say the least. It takes time..getting the hang of it. ;)
I'm coming from a Nikon D810. I like the Nikon 70-200 for the background separation during portrait sessions. Which is why I was going to pick up the Fuji lens.
I wouldn't mind to try out the 90mm but the 80mm is coming out this year so I want to save up for that instead. As for the 16-55 I'm not sure it will be any time soon. No $$ haha
Hey bro been following you for a while I got a question I sold my Nikon d750 coming over to fuji for portraits maybe weddings what lens and flash do you suggest for high speed sync
Any lens will work with highspeed sync (56mm, 90mm, 50mm, 50-140mm) . And the there are some nissin flashes that apparently work with hss outside of the fuji efx500. I dont do much hss sync so I just use cactus v6ii triggers when I need it.
Brilliant video, stunning images. I am just wondering how you compare this up against the 55-200? I have had the opportunity to use the 50-140 on several occasions, but never the 55-200. I am on the verge of purchasing one or the other, but not sure which to commit to. Obviously, the 55-200 is a fraction of the price so that is a tick in the box. Cheers Graham
I had the 55-200 and just sold it for the 50-140. Some of my favorite images have come out of the 55-200 including portraits and casual wildlife. That lens, when stopped down, can be very sharp. It feels very lightweight for the quality and zoom range- perfect for travel or hiking. The OIS is also outstanding (I can get ~1/15 at any focal length). But the auto focus is just ok, variable aperture, barrel extends while zoomed, it can hunt in low light, and it is not weather sealed. The 50-140 improves on everything except weight, size and of course cost. The bokeh is noticeably better, but it’s not the bokeh monster that I see in the faster primes. My arms start to get tired holding it up after several minutes. I also miss the 200mm zoom, but I can live without it. I needed the upgrade for wedding ceremonies indoors (not my main job). Hope my experiences help.
Nice Video as always :). One question... I have the opportunity to get a new xt2 for a Low Budget... I have a xpro2 atm... Would you change it for the xt2?? Just your personal oppinion... Greets tom
Zed ProMedia hmm I only have money to keep one of them. I want the best Fuji offers. Would you personal say the Evf of the xt2 is a bigger advantage or the more resolution vs lower quality display on the xpro 2? And of course the ability to tilt it. Thx :-)
brilliant review, thanks If I was on the fence with 56 apd, stunning images but that cartoon effect would have really annoyed me...Do u think the 56 would be able to obtain as nice potraits?
Awesome video as always! I've went from Canon, to Sony, to Nikon, to Fuji, back to Nikon, and now back to Fuji for good. As much as I love full frame, I find I miss the Fuji shots I've taken with the XT1 (XT2 was released after I made the switch). Hoping to get the XT2 in a couple weeks. Have you shot with the 16-55 f2.8? I'm hoping this is a good equivalent to my Nikon 24-70. Another question, are you based out of Toronto?
Once again Thanks for an honest review, I own this lens I checked all my raw files and I cannot see any of the lines you have in your files, I agree with you 100% on the built quality and sharpness of this lens, but as you said it cannot be compared with my Canon 70-200 2.8II.. is just not there for me, I'm still not convinced on the bokeh this lens produces, another thing that bothers me about this lens is the noisy IOS and the internal parts moving when the lens is carried in an horizontal position...
I've never seen this on any of my other fuji lenses. I dont think it hurts the image much because I never see it unless I zoom in 300%. 1 out of 1000 photos might have it. And yes the OIS makes a hissing noise if you are using internal mics on the camera. You can actually hear it in my focus test. Its louder than the focus motor haha
Zed ProMedia cartoony edging is a sharpening artifact in ACR and capture one. I've seen similar with other ridiculously sharp glass like Sony 55 1.8 - you get a subject with harsh pop. I tend to reduce sharpening radius in ACR to counter. The glass is already razor sharp and doesnt need significant capture sharpening. Something that Tony Northrup noticed comparing 5dsr and canon 70-200 2.8ii combo to the xt2 50-140 combo, the Fuji combo is actually a sharper! petapixel.com/2016/09/14/fuji-x-t2-sharper-canon-5ds-r-preliminary-side-side-comparison/
I haven't seen this with any other lens that's why I assume is specific to this lens. And this is the raw file without anything applied. I guess I can try some other editing software to see if it also shows in them as well.
@@d4rks33k3rz lens itself is awesome. However, if you are event shooter, you may need a wider lens to accompany this one. Shooting group photos especially on the indoors ain't easy with this (minimum focal length issue). This is excellent for candid, portraits (adds distance between the shooter and model), landscape and anything else thats not a group. I use it for events, portrait's and landscape and yet to find an issue with it (except shooting group on indoor)
@@rhonaldjr I currently own the 16, 23, 35 f1.4's and the 56 f1.2, looking to mainly expand my focal range, had a zoom but my primes already covered that zoom range so I'm looking for a new zoom. This might be it
Hi, great review of the Fujinon XF 50-140 f2.8 lens. I'm a Scottish professional photographer, and I noticed the same artifact that you refer to in your review. The same issue appears in the Hasselblad Phocus software as well (free!). I mentioned this to the Fuji people at the recent 2018 UK Photography Show, in Birmingham, England. I was told nobody had heard of this issue. I discovered your channel when looking for others who might have spotted it too. I intend to show this video to another professional videographer, and well known blogger friend of mine. This should help prove my argument! Thanks. 😉 I've subscribed! 😎
Hi! Just stumbled upon your review and gotta say, it's pretty good. very informative I would say. so, I was wondering if I could ask for some advice, I've got the X-T2, with the kit 18-55 and 16mm 1.4, however, I am really missing a portrait lens with good aperture, so help me out here please! do I ditch the 18-55mm with 18-135mm? or keep the kit lens and get the 50-140mm, but it is hugely expensive and out of my price range. how about just adding the 50mm f2 to the collection as a cheaper option for portraits? or do I even wait for the rumoured 80mm? you can see that I'm deadly confused! so, ..., any thoughts !!
same here.. divided between the teles..for my Fuji. I also own the kit lens, the 16mm (and the pancake 27mm). What i really wanted was the 90mm .. but its got no OIS.. I've tried the 80.. Its good.. but not a game changer, for portraits, imo. Since i've got an 85mm for my Full Frame Nikons..i am divided between this fuji 50-140mm and a Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 for the DSLRs. What did you end up getting ?
Jose Gallardo it's the only lens I've seen it on but other people are saying they have noticed it on other lenses as well. So it's hard to say what causes it.
Hi! Really like your videos, gives me a lot of inspiration!! I have a question: Do you use back button focus?? If yes, why do you think that is a good thing? :)
If you could do a comparison of the exact same shot with another camera like your Sony with a similar lens I think it may make your claim more valid. Maybe that was just the lighting you were dealing with.
I'm talking about the odd characteristic of this Fuji lens. How would taking the exact same photo with a Sony camera and different lens prove that a Fuji lens has this weird dark outline on hard edges? It only happens like 1 out of 1000 images in specific lighting. Super weird
Heya, given that the X-H1 and the XF 80 has been released, what do you think of the XF 50-140 as a portrait lens? Would you take it over the 56/80/90 with the X-H1? Thanks :)
Sana Kim김사나 For a portrait lens I’d rather have slightly slower autofocus and a lens with more magical characteristics than a faster autofocus lens with less character. The 56mm is also my favourite lens of all time from any camera system
Another great vid. thanx. I like the xt2 so much, but every time we shoot something at work for clients or us, (antyhink I need to do quickly, 100% acurate and serius) I switch back to 5d3. Its just so much faster in fashion photoshoots with 1500+ shots a day, and much more responsive with optical viewfinder. And with raw files i feel 'safer' i think. but for personal stuff i so much prefer the fuji. just point, shoot and get the JPG ready instantly. DO You ever 'look back' to some DSLR gear?
yo zed thanks man. this video covers a lot about this lens. This lens has made me to decide not to go for Fuji. 70-200 is the workhorse for sports to wedding and every thing else.
New subscriber. Your vids are great, man. [Edit: Also, my guess on the focus ring is that it is designed for the mode on cameras like the XT-2 and X-Pro2 where you can use auto+manual focus together, so you would be making micro adjustments with the manual ring.)
Your findings of the jacked edges has nothing with the lens to do. It's X-trans artifacts which shows both in Adobe, Iridient, X-Former, C1, On1, Luminar etc. etc... just that you don't make wrong conclusions it's and optical phenomenon. :)
Gerner Christensen As I say in the video I’m unsure if it’s processing or not. It shows in every editor I’ve tried even turning off lens corrections. And I’ve never ever seen it on any lens that’s why I brought it up in this video. I mostly just hope someone else has seen this as well so I don’t look so crazy haha
I've seen the same edge effect on my X-T2 with the 18-55. I only notice it when pixel peeping - when viewing normally you don't see it, and the overall image is awesome.
Hi there, I hope this email finds you well. We are a very small startup company based in Berlin. At this very moment our photography and video productions are out sourced, we like to change that and looking for a perfect camera which will help us to develop brilliant product photos, mostly still. For sure we also like to start with 4K. After spending quite much time in research what the best is I found the following ones: GH5, Alpha 7Rii, Fuji X-T2 and last the Olympus OM D E MII. Do you have any suggestion which one tom take? Thank you so much for your time. Andy
For us Fujiusers this is the second fastest afwise lens and i think its place is more at sports then portraits. For portraits are more the 56 or the 50 also the 90......maybe the 16-55 too I use it for Dogsports with an X-T2 and for this there is not a better lens in the lineup ...90 for sure if u get closer. Also theyve a very high quality 1.4 Tc which i use often for it and the 100-400 which give u more reach and costs u only a stop. Good Reviev like always ! Nice Greetings from Austria !!
Close your eyes. Relax. You lay at a beautiful beach at the edge of a beautiful blue sea. The free sun is in a blue sky shining on everybody. Everybody is happy, happy. Everybody has found out that the free sun is for one or the other reason not there anymore. Everybody has noticed that the free sun after that was replaced by a beautiful starry heaven or something and sometimes also with a big something what the people are calling “moon”. Everybody is thinking it is weird, but we get the whole thing for free, so what the heck. Imagine that on every beautiful star in the beautiful starry heaven with everybody in a free show is exactly happening the same: free sun, free beautiful stars in a beautiful starry heaven or something and sometimes a big free moon. Everybody until the end of times in the beautiful Universe happy, happy. Open your beautiful eyes. You see beautiful people who are until the end of times in the beautiful Universe happy, happy. You see at the beautiful planet Earth for instance beautiful people with beautiful eyes who have a little box or something that has a button or something that they press with their hopefully not greasy fingers. Nobody knows why, but the beautiful people are with their beautiful eyes and their hopefully not greasy fingers happy, happy with it, so what the heck, live and let live. It is obviously for the happy, happy people something that they like to do. Also it becomes clear that the happy, happy people are using one or the other system of a happy, happy internet, where they are studying at the happy, happy internet academy at the very interesting lessons of the professionals in order to do something what they like with the box in order to be even more happier, so at the beautiful planet Earth in the beautiful Universe until the end of times two thumbs up for everybody at Zed Pro Media at the happy, happy digital internet!

8:42 mark...In a high contrast situation as shown, it seems to be common issue even with Sony. Adjust your focus settings.
Nice video and great images! I just checked some test shoots I took with the XF50-140mm f2.8 and I don't see that black line... that's weird!
Hi, got this lens few days ago but used and the aperture ring is guite hard to use. I saw in your video that you can move it with one finger. With my lens you can't do that. I never touched a new o e and I don't know how is normal.

That portrait in the woods is amazing

Daniel Cabral the thing is I’ve never seen this from any other lens. It does seem like a processing thing though.
In Capture one you can dail back the Fuji correction, in Lightroom this is not possible
Yeah, Fuji has an element devoted a removing CA in that lens.
you ever find out what the edging issue was??
What is your basis for comparing and f/2.8 to an f/4.0? Just curious. I've recently switched from Canon to Fuji and am loving the Xt3 with the 16mm and just got the 50-140 delivered about five minutes ago!
I agree with everything you said in the video. I did experience the video jerkiness when panning. But overall I love it when paired with the 16-55.
Hı there,
I had the same problem with the edges that contains light to dark transitions, I solve this problem in camera settings and switching the capture one from lightroom. So bring down your sharpnes to "0" and bring down your color to "-1" in camera and use capture one with fuji. You will notice that is the ADOBE making it harder...
Thank you for the review...The metallic build is so beautiful from fuji lenses...Definately ill buy this alongside the XT3

the 90 is far superior in its focal length, far more sharper, but 90mm is all you get compare to 50 to 140,
Yup, I do enjoy this lens. But I think my 90mm edges it just a little bit more. Thanks for the review. BTW, are you excited about the rumored wide angle lens (8-16mm)?
I don't know what it is, but after watching this a handful of times, my very own 50-140 is on its way! 😝😝😝😝
Anyway- fantastic review man I love your work and all the effort you put into your channel!!
You prolly dont care but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Declan Kristian instablaster ;)
@Gael Cullen thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Gael Cullen it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you really help me out :D
@Declan Kristian No problem :D
awesome job on the review
Thanks dude
agree
Nice review like always.
The "Dark line" might be the in camera lens correction. In Lightroom, under Lens Corrections, Builtet-in Lens Profile applied. Click it it will show
This raw file contains a built-in lens profile for correcting distortion and chromatic aberration. The profile has already been applied automatically to this image.
I checked that. Turning off lens corrections still shows it. I also tried it in 3 different raw converters and all show the same thing. So still not sure if its processing in camera to the raw file or the lens is some how able to create it. I have not seen this on any other lens.
Oh, interesting. Well I don't have this lens, I could skip the "keyline" effect. :-)
Fuji in camera sharpening, CA correction? Is a raw file really a raw file? Also some kind of internal lens creep. Great lens and great review. Thx!
i find ALL fuji lenses very hard to manual focus. because they focus electronically or what ever it does.
94 VSN panasonic works great in manual focus!
I find it much easier just to use old manual focus Nikkor fast prime lenses for video as I don't like the wishy washy fly by wire manual focus on modern fuji lenses.
Is the noise normal, I hear fan like sound when the camera is on?
Hey zed better question I wanted to ask what would be your top Lens for portraits and weddings I sold my Nikon stuff to move to fuji and wanted to get your thoughts
Cant go wrong with the XF56mmf1.2
That hard edge is interesting/odd. I'm an Apple Aperture holdout, and am curious if Apple's raw processing would yield the same results. Wondering if you would consider sending me the raw file with the trumpet so I can take a look at Apple's raw conversion.
send me an email at zedpromedia@gmail.com I'll send it
I miss aperture & its lightning fast processing.
Unfortunately Aperture doesn't support RAW files for the X-T2 as far as the last time I tested it.
I've been working with X-Pro2 raw files with no problems. There is a footnote, however, indicating no support for compressed raw files in Apple's raw processor. In my offline conversation with Lee last night, he indicated that the photos in question were compressed raw, so I couldn't open them in Aperture.
I am looking to get into wedding and portrait photography and I am thinking about the following cameras:
1. Fuji X-T2
2. Sony a7ii
Can you please give me your opinion?
Fuji all the way. I never enjoyed shooting with Sony.
Hey man,
Curious? Could you turn the in-body SHARPNESS down to soften the edges of the subject?
cheers L
How is low light focusing?
What camera were you using this with in the tests? What firmware was it on?
Xt3 vs Xt2 vs Xt1 is very different in auto focus speeds for example.
Also with others on here stating they do not get the black lines with the same lens, do you think this could be some form of camera setting like sharpening or contrast?
I noticed the strange edging with my 90 and xh1! You're not alone!
That suggests it could well be camera settings rather than the lens? No?
hi, is this lens kind of parfocal ?
great video btw
Will this lease be a waste on X-T1?
Hey bro if you had the 90mm and 56 1.2 would you still use this ? I guess im trying to decided which lens to get i have the 16-55mm f2.8 90mm f2 and 35mm f2 thoughts?
Depends on what you are shooting. If its events and weddings then I would say 50-140 but if its just street and portraits I stick with the primes.
Paulo Parreira
Obrigado, Paulo
I ended up getting the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 for my Nikons. huge! but awesome.
i don’t regret it at all.
Still, the 50-140 is a really good lens.
Not surprisingly i had the same learning curve, u seem to have had, when i got my Fujifilm camera.
Mirrorless is different.. to say the least. It takes time..getting the hang of it.
;)
Great video. I was looking at purchasing that lens. Not sure about the black marks that you were referring to.
Yeah I dont see it often. But I was able to find some examples.
I'm coming from a Nikon D810. I like the Nikon 70-200 for the background separation during portrait sessions. Which is why I was going to pick up the Fuji lens.
Do you plan on reviewing the 90mm f/2 or the 16-55 f/2.8?
Godox have a whole ecosystem for Fuji now through their X1 trigger system. I’m more than happy with the results. 😊👊
This looks like CA control baked into raw files. Could you test it please without corrections? (the dark outlines)
That was the whole point of showing you in Lightroom and CaptureOne the untouched .raf files.
Cheers
Graham
Greets tom
Probably not if you're happy with the Xpro2
Zed ProMedia hmm I only have money to keep one of them. I want the best Fuji offers. Would you personal say the Evf of the xt2 is a bigger advantage or the more resolution vs lower quality display on the xpro 2? And of course the ability to tilt it.
Thx :-)
brilliant review, thanks If I was on the fence with 56 apd, stunning images but that cartoon effect would have really annoyed me...Do u think the 56 would be able to obtain as nice potraits?
Paul Chronicles Absolutely. The 56mm non APD is my favourite lens of all time. th-cam.com/video/h0NVGlxfF8g/w-d-xo.html
IOS switch on or off?
Have you compared it in Iridient?
Could it have been caused by the LMO - 'Lens Modulation Optimizer'? LMO is used to counteract diffraction, and is different for every Fuji lens.
was on the wall with this one, you just sold me into it :-) gonna get this weekend. I wonder how it performs with X-T3
and? how do you like it? xt3 user myself and looking into this lens to expand my focal range of lenses.
This might be it
@@d4rks33k3rz yep, then this lens will make a good zoom
Hi, great review of the Fujinon XF 50-140 f2.8 lens. I'm a Scottish professional photographer, and I noticed the same artifact that you refer to in your review. The same issue appears in the Hasselblad Phocus software as well (free!).
I mentioned this to the Fuji people at the recent 2018 UK Photography Show, in Birmingham, England. I was told nobody had heard of this issue. I discovered your channel when looking for others who might have spotted it too. I intend to show this video to another professional videographer, and well known blogger friend of mine. This should help prove my argument! Thanks. 😉
I've subscribed! 😎
Been waiting on this review
There will never be THE PERFECT CAMERA or LENS when it gets to technical then we lose the fun of taking pictures
Correctly put. Its the pictures and not the technical complicity.
So true!
I want this lens! Thanks for the review, love your photos 👍😉
I have the exact same lenses as you. I'm considering between the 90mm f2, or 55-140mm in this video. What did you end up getting?
same here..
divided between the teles..for my Fuji.
Why does your portraits with your Fuji lenses ALWAYS look better than everyone in my Fuji groups? Their's always look grainy
great review again man this channel is great!
This black line only happen with that lens?
Jose Gallardo it's the only lens I've seen it on but other people are saying they have noticed it on other lenses as well. So it's hard to say what causes it.
Hi! Really like your videos, gives me a lot of inspiration!! I have a question: Do you use back button focus?? If yes, why do you think that is a good thing? :)
Amazing Images! Great video. I'm a current Nikon shooter about to take the plunge into the Fuji realm. :-)
Super weird
Thanks for the review! this is exactly what I was looking for in a review.
Heya, given that the X-H1 and the XF 80 has been released, what do you think of the XF 50-140 as a portrait lens? Would you take it over the 56/80/90 with the X-H1? Thanks :)
Sana Kim김사나 for portraits I would still choose the 56mm
despite the slower AF? I guess you're saying the f1.2 is worth it?
Sana Kim김사나 For a portrait lens I’d rather have slightly slower autofocus and a lens with more magical characteristics than a faster autofocus lens with less character. The 56mm is also my favourite lens of all time from any camera system
Wow! Serious praise there. :-) Good to know! I guess its 56, 90, 50-140 on the list.. just a matter of which to buy first ^.^ Thanks Zed!
Why doesn't anyone talk about the "loose sound" when the lens isn't connected to a camera?
That's some Fuji lenses with OIS. Its on floating mech in this lens. Once there is power it engages the mech and you don't hear that rattle.
Great review man! Next review... That x100f maybe vs the xf23f2 on xpro/t2. Missed all your Fujifilm content thanks for the review!
That moment when you pause the video to check out the models on ig 🙈🙈🙈
Great video though man! And as always thanks for sharing!
Best lens for travel
Nice..it is effectively a 70-200 f/4.0 lens on FF...
wrong, apsc is not the same as full frame.
It's still a 2.8, but dof is more like a ff f4
Another great vid. thanx.
I like the xt2 so much, but every time we shoot something at work for clients or us, (antyhink I need to do quickly, 100% acurate and serius) I switch back to 5d3. Its just so much faster in fashion photoshoots with 1500+ shots a day, and much more responsive with optical viewfinder. And with raw files i feel 'safer' i think. but for personal stuff i so much prefer the fuji. just point, shoot and get the JPG ready instantly.
DO You ever 'look back' to some DSLR gear?
I still shoot with a 6D once and awhile. If you check out my flickr account you'll see what I shoot with.
Cebula overdosed
happy anniversary! :D
Nice video!
Why don´t you use your Fuji stuff for youtube video?
Another good video Bro. Stunning lens for me.
Great vid, love the deep details being pointed out as it matters for this $.
worrying about way too technical stuff, photography is art man, just enjoy it. Still love your videos though
But if you zoom into 300% there's a line!
That's the point of a review... I dont want to cough up 1200 for a crap lens
yo zed thanks man. this video covers a lot about this lens. This lens has made me to decide not to go for Fuji. 70-200 is the workhorse for sports to wedding and every thing else.
Why did u decide against fuji?
New subscriber. Your vids are great, man. [Edit: Also, my guess on the focus ring is that it is designed for the mode on cameras like the XT-2 and X-Pro2 where you can use auto+manual focus together, so you would be making micro adjustments with the manual ring.)
7:00 Nikon has that issue too , but no client of yours or mine will give a f.... or notice that, because not one of your pics suck dude....
Totally OK Zed. I have seen it on each and every Fuji lens made :)
Take a better look buddy :)
I've seen the same edge effect on my X-T2 with the 18-55. I only notice it when pixel peeping - when viewing normally you don't see it, and the overall image is awesome.
Thank God a honest review for once
Hi there, I hope this email finds you well. We are a very small startup company based in Berlin. At this very moment our photography and video productions are out sourced, we like to change that and looking for a perfect camera which will help us to develop brilliant product photos, mostly still. For sure we also like to start with 4K. After spending quite much time in research what the best is I found the following ones: GH5, Alpha 7Rii, Fuji X-T2 and last the Olympus OM D E MII. Do you have any suggestion which one tom take? Thank you so much for your time. Andy
You are going to break the lens mount if you don't hold the lens instead of the camera.
i heard of that lens , yeah
word
nice review ---- I guess i need one
„it‘s more similar to like the 70-200mm f/4 from canon“ ... well, that‘s its equivalent, so of course it‘s about the same size ... 🤦🏻♂️
Fabio Mota And it cost almost double more expensive
You are the best!
If only it didn’t cost $1600...
Buy it used then, that's what I'm doing
Are you eating more? :O
lol
PD: love the channel man! haha, seriously I'm a big fan of your work...
For us Fujiusers this is the second fastest afwise lens and i think its place is more at sports then portraits.
For portraits are more the 56 or the 50 also the 90......maybe the 16-55 too
I use it for Dogsports with an X-T2 and for this there is not a better lens in the lineup ...90 for sure if u get closer. Also theyve a very high quality 1.4 Tc which i use often for it and the 100-400 which give u more reach and costs u only a stop.
Good Reviev like always !
Nice Greetings from Austria !!
When you bureau skin face, blur skin hands and arms. Otherwise They don't fit each other.
That weird effect is because of Lightroom, I think you need to use capture one
Also it becomes clear that the happy, happy people are using one or the other system of a happy, happy internet, where they are studying at the happy, happy internet academy at the very interesting lessons of the professionals in order to do something what they like with the box in order to be even more happier,
so at the beautiful planet Earth in the beautiful Universe until the end of times two thumbs up for everybody at Zed Pro Media at the happy, happy digital internet!
Stop comparing it to Canon 70-200 2.8... this is the equivalent of a 70-200 f4 on FF.
