- Casio gets a lot more attention than some other watchmakers on the MrMobile channel, and that’s because it’s one of the few companies doing something different with Android Wear. Last year I reviewed the company’s feature-packed but pricey WSD-F10 outdoor smartwatch, and this summer’s sequel has ditched the clunky model number for a (slightly) streamlined brand name.
Much else is familiar though; the ProTrek Smart keeps the chunky frame, water resistance and the high price point - not to mention the confusing lack of both a heart rate monitor and an ambient light sensor. But there’s one major addition that puts the Casio ProTrek Smart firmly in “what last year’s model should have been” territory: baked-in GPS.

Gear S3 Frontier is the one you are looking for. The OS that doesn't drain battery and does all that casio pro trek smart does.
Nice review, I'd had this watch for a few weeks and really like it. It's my second Android Wear, coming from a Moto 360 Sport. You nailed it re: the top level monochrome LCD, that along with Casio's nice software add-ons are the killer apps for this watch. I would point out that you can use the mono LCD with *any* watch face, I initially thought it was just with the Casio ones. So if you find a third party watch face you like (I use Pear), just set Always On to off in the AW app and it will activate the mono LCD. It also has the ability to correct time via GPS and along with the built in sensors, makes a nice watch even when not connected to your phone.
Great review, this is one of the cooler smart watches I've seen. Also, what kind of boat do you have? It looked like the back of a Hinckley picnic boat.

Interesting that Casio started making smart watches.
Don't like smart watches in general, but this looks interesting, has a typical issue with these smart watches made by big name watch producers, huge af, looks unwieldy on your wrists.

Hey Michael, don't suppose you could get your hands on a 'martian' smartwatch? They're quite minimalist but I think they're kinda neat. They have some budget options that rival the pebbles that are floating around.

I was a Casio Databank user for 25+yrs. It was unbeatable for usability, reliability, durability, and pricing. If only Casio had been able to turn the Databank into a smartwatch, I would have been first in line to buy it. To me the ProTrek is entirely unappealing.

I'm curious about your battery usage, what are you doing on an average day? I can comfortably get 2 days with this watch, and can usually stretch that to 3 without too much trouble. Weekends when I walk and am tracking myself (using ViewRanger) I can easily get the entire weekend. What's an average day for you?

I still like the "transrefletive" display of my good old moto 360 sport. It's even more readable in direct Sunlight. I don't care about OLED in Smartwatches, i want THIS. But it still hasn't received Android Wear 2 yet :-(

Why i hear everywhere that smartwatch Heart Rates are inaccurate? I ve tested many time mine and it counts almost perfectly. Sometimes it is only 1 heartbeat off. For me that is accurate enough..

Interesting that it has even QZSS but almost no phone(let alone smartwatches), despite quite a lot of recent chipsets supporting, has support for Galileo. Some phones even have Beidou support, but not Galileo! Maybe it's because there are not yet enough satellites yet.
Given how small a micro sd card is you'd expect in 2019 these watches would be coming with 256gb built in! Why are you suppressing us man!!!! Props to Casio the watch looks amazing.

It's a shame about that bit of blank screen at the bottom, if it was a full round screen I may have got one.

You should try out the Nixon Mission. Snapdragon processor, far nicer looking design, keeps the ruggedness with a full circle AMOLED screen and I easily finish the day with 50% battery.
