Many thanks, Tony! i really find your videos helpful, especially this one where I've been quoted about £ 480 to change both rear boot wire loom. I summoned up courage and fixed these myself as you showed here. I am glad I bought an Alfa Romeo Giulietta 11' plate to be specific after seeing your videos on it. Keep the good work and thanks for sacrificing your time to do them. Thank you.
Hey Samson. Thank you for your kind words. Really appreciate it and so glad you’ve been able to fix it for yourself. Take it easy and best wishes for the new year. All the best 👍
this was the first video I saw on the fix. I also looked at the loom replacement kit. finally I saw someone pull out the grommet & feed out 10cm of cable.. so I had a go myself, these were my steps. pull out the grommet to top & bottom, ease out as much cable as possible - no tools needed, this is in fact very simple. you now have 10cm of cable top & bottom, plus 10cm inside the grommet. In my case there were 2 wires broken (black & yellow/green). strip the top broken wires 1cm & solder 30cm of 18AWG to the ends, heatshrink over the join. sellotape the ends of the new wires to a kitchen skewer and push through the grommet. (I had only two wires to identify, so the shorter one was the yellow/green). slip on the heatshink first, then solder again the wires. push the top grommet into the boot lid (very easy, no tools, no special effort). then for the bottom, feed all the cables into the bodyshell & push the grommet back in (again easy). really it was a 20minute job. I was using a gas soldering iron, so a bit more faff than it should be. Main thing is all the dash warning lights have gone now. time will tell how good the soldering was..
Thank you. I had the same issue and the front day time lights were also not working. I inspected both sides and found broken wires. Now I’m back on the road. Cheers.
Bij bij was ook de groene kabel doorgebroken en dat was van de achterruitenwisser wil niet stoppen met werken , ook de antenne was doorgebroken en nog een dikke zwarte kabel. Mooie video bedankt.👌
Hey, just did this job on mine too. The coax cable is for an optional dual receiver radio, the antenna would be etched vertically in the rear window. Also, the rubber boot on the car side is installed backwards, the arrow should be pointing toward the roof/the inside of the car. Nice job ✌️
John, thank you so much for your comment. That’s exactly what I’m hoping to achieve from these videos. By showing people the issues and and what the parts look like and the challenges in removing parts, it should make it easier for people to do these things at home and on the driveway (Vialetto). All the best.

Great video, yeah the wiper and fog lights are doing the same on mine might have a go at fixing it. I already got the gear box sensor replaced as the wiring loom was damaged
I think that on most wiper systems if the blade does not stop at the correct location it's a matter of the electromechanical switches in the wiper mechanism. Last one I did was my 60 Chevy and that was just a bit of corrosion on the contacts. I have not had that yet on my Giuiletta but you showed us the location of the rear wiper unit and it's not too bad to get to.
Hi Robert. Thank you for watching and glad you found it useful. The Alfas seem to have various causes for this one of which is poor soldering on the BCM. Hope you resolve yours. All the best 👍
Thanks for this, had an intermittent issue with my rear wiper as well, really only when it was wet. I had stripped insulation off one wire but none broken on the right hand loom, 2 broken on the left hand loom, one of which was the boot courtesy light. No idea what the second one was as everything was working! Couple of hours work and the cost of a few bits of heatshrink was all it took.

It’s funny how we all have the exact same issues. I’ve just bought a 11 plate JTDM-2 and mine is the same. I’ll give it a go thanks to this guide mate. One question. Which tools did you use to take the trim off? Or was it a bit of brute force
Hi Dom. probably best to use some plastic pry tools to avoid marking the trim etc. A bit of brute force is required for sure too. Thanks for watching. All the best 👍
Hi thank you Tony the Video is very clear, My nearside and 3rd brake lights are out having been advised to look at them after my MOT I brought new lights thinking I could fix myself. I changed the 3rd brake light on the hatchback but the light still did not work. My husband thought it may be a fuse problem but we could not find a fuse for these lights. After searching the internet I found your video and am going to have a go at repairing. Have you a video showing how to repair the hatchback light ?
Hi Julie. You’ll most likely find the cable feeding the centre brake light (hatchback) is one of the broken cables too. I believe this comes from the left hand side loom. The link below shows how to remove the light though which may help; m.th-cam.com/video/LgLCJKiW27Q/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching. There’s loads more videos on the channel (over 100) so have a look through and you may find more things to help. All the best 👍
Hey Toni, Cheers for your videos. Really nice explanations and filming. I guess it will help out a lot of people save up a lot of money. Although I have one improvement to your repair method. I would rather put into the flexible some new wires and clip it before and after the flex tube, so you don’t stress the soldering joints that much and maybe have to redo the job in 1-2 years again. (Been there already myself with a Skoda Superb 😅) But beside of that really nice explanation and walk trough in detail and also the reminders for those specialities for the Giulietta. Hi Thomas. Thank you, always appreciate the feedback. I fixed the other side about 8 years ago now in the same way and it’s been all good since. I may have been lucky, but I’m going to argue in my favour 😂👍. Have a great day and stay safe. Thanks for watching. All the best 👍
I have the same problem, do you think it’s possible to fix this problem without removing the panels in the boot lid? Also with the heat shrink tubing do you use a heat gun for that? How do you know what wires go back together? And was there anything you’ve done to prevent the problem reoccurring? Apologies for all the questions 😂 would appreciate any reply if you can. Very helpful video! Thank you!!
Hi. Removing the panels will make it easier otherwise you won’t get the slack. Heat shrink I used a lighter I think (carefully). Sometimes the wires are numbered on the sheath, and also some are different thicknesses. Where they snap they may be different lengths to others too so that helps. Not done anything more to prevent it happening again, but all is well. Hope that helps. All the best 👍
Thanks for this. My left rear lamp works, but when I go over road bumps, sometimes it flickers or dimps, which sets off the warning light. I thought it was a loose wire or something.
Really glad you like the video. Hopefully it will help. That’s exactly what I want to be able to do with these videos. Loads more planned and coming up. Thanks for subscribing (if you have) 😉.
Hello, thanks for the great video. I want to ask you, how to fix the left wiring loom? I tried to follow the same technic you showed in your video but i don't know how to uninstall the rear wiper washer in order to loosen the wiring and have access to the broken cables. Thank you.
Hi Thanasis. Good question. I can't recall actually. I released a video about changing the middle brake light at the top which has some more detail on the rear wiper washer. That may help, but i never removed it completely. Perhaps i'll try harder this weekend. Sorry i can't help more. Thanks for watching, all the best👍

Hi. Does it do it both on left and right? May be that it needs taking off and just it’s fixed position changing by undoing the bolt and turning it a bit. If it does it both sides then sounds then sounds like the mechanism needs replacing. Hope that helps. All the best 👍
@@vialettotony Thank You Tony! Unfortunately we tried to "adjust" it by the way that you mentioned, but with no succes. Now it is fixed in an "Italian way", i unpluged it, till i wont find a good mechanism.
Hi Tony, I used this video to help my repair the right reverse brake light on my Giulietta. Massive thank you for the upload. However whilst doing so the connection for the heated window has come off the glass. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Hi Ash. I believe the terminal is soldered on to the copper conductors of the window. Short of attempting to resolder back on to it, I’m not sure what other options there are. With this option, there’s a small risk of shattering the glass due to localised heat, but as it’s tempered, it should reduce the issue. Let me know if you give it a go and how you get on. All the best 👍
Was just wondering how you figured out which ends of the broken wires were the correct ones to join together. I have a similar issue and have discovered 5 broken wires. I spent an hour just by process of elimination joining then re-joining different permutations of the wires in a temporary way and thought I had solved the problems, but then the 'check running lights' fault re-appeared even though all wires are now joined together, be that temporarily for now. I don't want to go ahead and permanently join the wires until I am certain they are the correct joins. On the upside, my rear wiper was not working also, but it is now and even resets back to its original position when I switch it off. So I'm sure that they can't just be re-joined any old how.
Hi Peter. The cables in mine were numbered on the left hand side if I recall from years ago. I had to strip it back quite a way and it was quite feint, but it was definitely there. The ones in the right were all of a different gauge and it was fairly evident. Hope that helps. All the best and good luck with it. 👍
@@vialettotony Thanks, will take a closer look for those numbers. Also, like you say,, they are of various thickness, which has helped reduce the permutations of what connects to what.
@@vialettotony Thanks for the guidance. All working and no warning messages except for a problem with passenger rear fog light not coming on. Nothing wrong with the bulb so suspect it may be a problem with the passenger writing loom. Gonna save that for another day.

One thing I have to ask and it may sound silly..but if one of the wires is completely broken, how do I know which wire to put it back together with?😂 Appreciate any response! Thanks again buddy👍🏼
Hi. Add a little more time as the left hand side needs a little more work because of the centre brake light. With regard to knowing which cable is which, on mine they had broken all at slightly different lengths so was able to label them up with a bit of tape and a number written on. The black cables on mine also all had individual markings on them which was a bit difficult to see. And lastly, there are a lot of different gauge wires, so different thicknesses make it easy to identify. Hope that helps. All the best 👍

Have the warning light about my running lights but its for the front. The LEDs flicker and then go off when the warning lights come on, anyway to check this?
Hi Marshall 1908, I’d say definitely get the codes read. It sounds like the unit itself, which happened to mine when I first bought it. The unit was replaced and all was okay. Hope that helps. All the best 👍
Hello, please can you recommend any ECU specialist for Alfa Romeo. I have a giuletta as well and i want to know if i can find someone who can fix something like that. Thanks
My reversing light in one side goes on and off and I'm suspecting that the white rear tail light connector is corroded. I've tried to clean it but nothing.. any chance to change that connector and if so, where can I get that?... I've found it for different Alfa models but not for Giulietta.h
Hi Marcus. Thank you. Good luck at the weekend. Can’t remember to be honest, but think it was a 1mm cable. Wanted to keep it small so it would fit inside the rubber sleeve still.
Hey man Great job Quick question the cooling fans on your Alfa does it both work in the same time or only one because when I open the hood The left fan only always spinning where the right fan I never see it spinning even when the AC is on does it this normal ?
Hey Sulaiman, to be perfectly honest, I don’t know. What I do know is that when the car goes for the MOT (annual safety test) the inspector leaves the car running so it gets hot, and then the cooling fans should kick in. I’ll have to have a look and see what mine does. Sorry I can’t really help. Great to hear from you again.
Hi Matthew. Thanks for your comment, yes, I believe you're correct with DAB. Someone else mentioned this previously. Oddly, I found the other end of it recently, which will become evident on another video due out soon. Thanks for watching, and subscribing (if you have) I really appreciate it. All the best, keep well.
Hi Georg. I sourced some from ebay. They came in a massive pack which was not necessary. You should also be able buy them from a local auto store too though. All the best 👍
I've just done mine, that coax connects to a small black box that is a second aerial in the rear window, you can see extra vertical lines on the glass, my radio had no reception at all without it.
You should really be fixing this with the repair kits as the new wiring is more flexible and will be much less likely to break again whereas your soldering will more than likely snap or crack in the first winter.
Hi Vito. Thanks for your comment. I’m pleased to report that the first side has been perfect since I repaired it in 2014, 8 years ago. The one in the video has been good for nearly two years now too. Quite surprised but goes to show if you do it properly it makes a difference. Thanks for watching. All the best and safe driving 👍
@@mrbrownz554 I've worked on the giullietta since they've been out in 2010. I must have carried out loom repairs at least over 30 times. Most of the time they've been repaired by someone already using this method and it doesn't last. The repair kits have a much better silicone wire that does not go hard like the originals. The fact is, it all depends on how much you use the boot, if it's not often then this repair will last a while. But in my experience it's not a permanent fix.

Sounds like the wiring loom possibly... Its soooooooo common.. All the best 👍
Great video!!
Hi Lee. Thanks for commenting and watching, and apologies i didn't repond before now. Not sure how the comment got by me 😉
All the best.
Really helpful video! Hopefully going to be repairing mine this weekend!
Out of interest what guage wire did you use for the repairs?
Hi Marcus. Thank you. Good luck at the weekend. Can’t remember to be honest, but think it was a 1mm cable. Wanted to keep it small so it would fit inside the rubber sleeve still.
Hey man
Great job
Quick question the cooling fans on your Alfa does it both work in the same time or only one because when I open the hood The left fan only always spinning where the right fan I never see it spinning even when the AC is on does it this normal ?
Hey Sulaiman, to be perfectly honest, I don’t know. What I do know is that when the car goes for the MOT (annual safety test) the inspector leaves the car running so it gets hot, and then the cooling fans should kick in. I’ll have to have a look and see what mine does.
Sorry I can’t really help.
Great to hear from you again.
@@vialettotony thank you 😊
I'm gonna try this! so wish me luck!!!!
Good luck. 👍
The random plug is either DAB or Navigation aerial
Hi Matthew. Thanks for your comment, yes, I believe you're correct with DAB. Someone else mentioned this previously. Oddly, I found the other end of it recently, which will become evident on another video due out soon. Thanks for watching, and subscribing (if you have) I really appreciate it. All the best, keep well.
Did you find a place to order the trim clips. The one you broke?
Hi Georg. I sourced some from ebay. They came in a massive pack which was not necessary. You should also be able buy them from a local auto store too though. All the best 👍
Which side is the wire connecting the plate light?
The number plate light is not in the boot loom. It comes from the main body. See my video for how to remove the rear bumper. All the best.
That big Coax cable is probably for DAB, if its not plugged into anything you probably don't have DAB, in which case no worries :P
Ah, nice one... Thanks, that would make sense. No DAB here so no worries.
I've just done mine, that coax connects to a small black box that is a second aerial in the rear window, you can see extra vertical lines on the glass, my radio had no reception at all without it.
Stupid question - but do I need to disconnect the battery before I start this? Or is it ok as long as the car is turned off. Cheers Mate
Hi. I didn’t disconnect mine but it wouldn’t hurt to if you did. All the best 👍
No need to disconnect the battery
Takk!
Vito if you have so much knowledge then please please please share it with us minions 🙏 bawbag
@@mrbrownz554 🤣🤣🤣
@@mrbrownz554 I've worked on the giullietta since they've been out in 2010. I must have carried out loom repairs at least over 30 times. Most of the time they've been repaired by someone already using this method and it doesn't last. The repair kits have a much better silicone wire that does not go hard like the originals. The fact is, it all depends on how much you use the boot, if it's not often then this repair will last a while. But in my experience it's not a permanent fix.
@vitocorleone8360 Iv fixed my loom with added wire and shrink tubing it's part of the fun of owning an alfa fixing these problems I can't wait until the next wire breaks 😀 I get your point though but normal people don't own alfas
