I can definitely see the merit of a gadget like this. I often have a single egg with a meal. It's all about attention span. It's easy to cook an egg but you've got to watch it the whole time and possibly flip it. To just not be able to think freeze you up to prepare other food items. I use a mini frying pan and a lid but you have to watch it that whole time.
I often make a single egg sandwich in the mornings, it literally takes a minute to cook the egg. And more then enough time to get a plate and bread out while cooking it. This device is made for dorm kids with no kitchen stove, or someone in a camper / semi truck.
@@misterhat5823problem is the last half minute where the egg can go from runny to firm at the blink of an eye. I would have liked to see him make a lightly scrambled sandwich egg or maybe try something different it wasn't designed for, being the one trick pony it is.
Unless you let the unit cool down to the same temp between uses, the extra heat to start with may be making the difference in how well it works. The price - puts it outside what I'm willing to pay. I've already got a microwave, so I got some microwave egg cookers that were $6 each and they let me select how well done the eggs are by the timer and power setting on the microwave. If I want poached eggs, I put a little water in the bottom and if I want fried eggs I put a little oil in the bottom. They turn out just right every time. And they're dishwasher safe. Almost forgot - Great channel!
If it could do two sunny side/over easy eggs at the same time maybe, but it's rare that I only cook a single egg. Seems easier to just toss a couple eggs in a warm pan and turn it off with a lid over it or something if you really want to be able to walk away. With a few more customizable options though, this could be really useful for a lot of people. Maybe they could make a double unit or something with a few more options. I'm also curious how much egg size changes the results.
Eggs aren't particularly hard to cook and I'm not generally a fan of gadgets taking up counter space, especially not single-purpose ones, but I'm also blind and like how easy this makes it to just prep an egg.
I first commented before the video was over about there not being an over easy setting between the sunny side up and ½ runny yolk. But then I finished the video, and it looks like the sunny side up setting after being preheated will give you over easy. SWEET!
Thanks for the review James. Sounds like an OK product. I used to cook my eggs using my steamer for 20 minutes in the morning while I got ready to go to work.
I don't like yolks completely liquid, so 1/2 runny looked good. But fried eggs need that wonderful, crispy, golden brown and delicious edge that this cooker doesn't provide, so it's not for me.
I always enjoy your videos, thanks for posting!! I hope you had a big bowl of grits to enjoy all those running eggs 🥚 with!! Central Florida here, grits are a staple!! 🤗
It would be nice if you could cook 2 eggs on the other settings (like setting #5), not just the last one. Being able to tweak the time would also be handy.
I'm sure you can try two eggs on a lower setting just have to see how it turns out with the less cook time. The heating element likely only has one heat seting and each different option comes down to total time cooked as demonstrated in the video.
thanks for the review. Much appreciated! I don’t have issues with standing, but I don’t like standing (if that makes sense) and I prefer well done eggs. Gadget arrived and functions/performs as expected. Tried on setting 4 and setting 5. I wouldn’t call it a fried egg because it doesn’t get that crispy brown bottom that I like - but it does thoroughly cook the yolk, which is what I wanted.. And setting 5 is perfect for breakfast sandwiches. Link below is picture of setting #4. Beep is loud, unit turns off. It does what I want.

I paid around $50 for a good quality hybrid pan, which is useful for a lot stuff other than just frying eggs. Like most of these kitchen gadgets, it's a one trick pony (and it doesn't really do it that well) Straight to the boneyard imo Thank you for another good video PS I hope you all have a nice weekend
don't forget to figure in the cost of the cook top or range....can't do much with a pan without the heating up bit. Now an electric frying pan on the other hand , that's a bit more flexible of a device.
If it beeped at around 2:48 seconds it was most likely designed to operate on AC power cycling at 50Hz, in the United States we use 60Hz so clocks designed for 50Hz actually run a bit faster... by about 20%.
Edit: After watching this I got it. Here's my observations: PREHEAT IT! I usually let it run a cycle on setting 3, then after that, sunny side up makes the perfect dipping eggs every time. Usually I can get 2 done by the time the toast is up and ready to be done. Requires very little cleanup, and takes up very little space so when I get home from work, I can make a quick 2 eggs and toast without any hassle and enjoy the rest of my free time before bed. No pans, no messy butter, no dishes, no fuss. Worth it to me. I just use canola oil nonstick spray, small spurt to each side. I also do like the indent that keeps the yolk in the center. Original Comment: I like this. Much cleaner than microwaving an egg in a ceramic mug which is what I do when I need a quick egg made.
I think true sunny side up is somewhere between the first and the second attempt. The yoke has to shine through bright orange/yellow like the sun. The second one had the yoke muted too much. The first attempt hat too much of the white stuff uncooked still.
Pity they aren’t available in the UK. I’d make room for one of these in my little kitchen corner. I’d be curious to find out what happens if you put in 2 eggs and cook them on, say, ‘1-egg well done’ setting. Do the 2 eggs come out with softer yolks?
I hope he tests setting 1 again after setting 6 and then compare the two eggs cooked at setting 1 - my guess the second egg will be a lot more cooked as the unit is now warm Excellent! Thanks for doing that last test !
I like that product. That's a perfect way to get an egg or two cooked for an egg salad sandwich. It's flat so it's easy to chop up. There's no waiting for water to boil nor peeling of eggs after an ice bath. The egg white doesn't look fried. Minimal cleanup. If you just want an egg to snack on for a hangover it seems perfect. I want to buy this right now tbh. Seems like 3:13 is the perfect cook time for a poached style egg. This is a dream for a busy morning breakfast sandwich. I bet you can toast a muffin (already stuffed with ham and cheese) in there right before or after the egg and hit the road in a pinch. I'm getting hungry...
I always look for how the clean up is before I even look at any reviews on the cooking experience. If I can't clean it when the plates can be removed then the rest doesn't matter to me. I also do not see my option for OEM on the unit; I dislike sunny side, but I like dippy eggs. It looks intriguing though. Can you stop the cycle such as if you run 1 twice to get my version of eggs? Or are you forced to be there for the full time?
I think this product has its place in certain sectors. Dorm room or someone who travels for extended stays in hotels maybe. I’m thinking it may be nice for a young adult out on thier own for the first time. Maybe. But I wouldn’t give $40 for one unless it was a gift I was giving. Nice review as always!
I like my egg whites over cooked and my yokes runny. I usually separate the yoke and add it after the whites are nice crispy around the edges if I'm doing it in a pan. If I'm in a hurry, the microwave, 45 seconds works just fine and I'd save $40 bucks.🍳😊
I have one of the earlier models. It doesn't have the dip in the middle. They must have never changed the instructions after they improved it. It cooks the yolk usually to one side. I took it to a hotel that charges for breakfast and it works great in the room.
When I started watching this, the first thing that came to mind is that I can cook perfect eggs in any of my frying pans. But after watching the video, it appears to do exactly what it says it does. For someone living in a dorm where there is no stove, I think this would be a great gadget to have. For the average person who is able to cook whatever they want in their kitchen, it isn't really necessary.
You can get small portable induction stoves these days that could literally fry anything. Would think someone living in a dorm would like to cook something else besides just eggs.
@@bloxyman22 Tell me where I said this was the only thing they would need? I stand by my comment as this is small and takes little space, requires no other pan, is easy and quick to use and very easy to clean up. It doesn't prevent someone from having any other kind of appliance that they would wish to have.
@@bloxyman22 A lot of dorms (and assisted living facilities) don't allow any type of open cooktop, so I could see a couple gadgets like this one being useful. I think my Mother would have liked something like this when she was in an assisted living facility. I have discovered that it is easy to screw up a fried egg when I am not yet fully awake. I often use a stovetop "poacher", but this would perform pretty much the same function for me.
@@bloxyman22 Why do I always attract assholes who try to put words in my mouth? If you get a stove, then you need pots and pans. Then you have higher maintenance. Sometimes all you want, or need, is something like this.
By this point, it would not surprise me to see him holding up a live chicken and say something like "Yet another egg gadget. This one actually PRODUCES EGGS!".
Can you also buy the dash mini pancake maker for $13 an compare the 2 using the same time allotments? I don't want to spend $40 if I can get the same results with a cheaper product and the timer on my cell. Also can we get the same or close results using an airfryer and mini silicone or parchment paper cups, if we know the temperature the eggs fry at?
This thing barely handling 2 eggs for $40 makes me even more grateful for the brand new dash 2 tier egg steamer i found at savers for $9! I'd love to see an egg cooker battle royale one day
As you pointed out, one is stuck with their settings. One work-around would be to vary the temperature of the eggs: right out of the refrigerator, the eggs might be less cooked than at room temperature. Another way to have them be more runny eggs is to let the uncracked eggs pre-soak in water for 1 hour so they are rehydrated to the fullest.
I would use it pretty much daily Eggs are what keeps me alive 😅 And tbh is not a joke, eggs have all the vitamins human needs except for the C which you can drink mixing a bit of lemon juice in watter
Frying pan is still the best since I usually make three eggs at a time. The unit works and doesn't take up much space in your kitchen, but it's really not needed.
This might be a good product for me. In my house (5 people) it can be hard to find the right pan and lid when I want to make an egg or two and I would eat more eggs if it were simple like this. It probably would have been better to just have a strait adjustable timer so you could just make it what you want. Like eggs can cook differently if they are small, large or extra large so in my case I buy extra large eggs and after a few uses (timed) I would know the perfect setting and would likely write it on the unit with a silver sharpe.
I've used The griddle maker which is similar to the waffle maker mini. The egg maker is a good idea for those who have a tendency to forget that they put something on and it shuts off automatically. That might be worth the $40. Other than that, The griddle does the same thing.

I paid around $50 for a good quality hybrid pan, which is useful for a lot stuff other than just frying eggs. Like most of these kitchen gadgets, it's a one trick pony (and it doesn't really do it that well)
Straight to the boneyard imo
Thank you for another good video
PS I hope you all have a nice weekend
don't forget to figure in the cost of the cook top or range....can't do much with a pan without the heating up bit. Now an electric frying pan on the other hand , that's a bit more flexible of a device.
@@markbajek2541 Most people have a stove. And if you cant afford a stove you dont have $40 for a frivolous product like this.
did you give the dogs a few of the eggs after? my dog loves eggs. def agree with you on a custom timer setting, that would've been perfect.
If it beeped at around 2:48 seconds it was most likely designed to operate on AC power cycling at 50Hz, in the United States we use 60Hz so clocks designed for 50Hz actually run a bit faster... by about 20%.
Edit: After watching this I got it. Here's my observations:
PREHEAT IT!
Is it easy to clean too?
Seems like it does what it says it does. Nothing i need but it looks ok. Thanks for the video
Wouldn't be Freakin' Reviews without some egg gadgets! LFG! 😜😜
maybe it does need a warm-up on the first setting then try a sunny side up?? I'm going to get it and try it!! thanks for the review!!
Am I the only one here that doesn't really eat eggs but hoping to get a snippet of Bailey? Love you too J :)
I think true sunny side up is somewhere between the first and the second attempt.
The yoke has to shine through bright orange/yellow like the sun.
The second one had the yoke muted too much. The first attempt hat too much of the white stuff uncooked still.
$40 to cook one egg?
Immediately went to a no after that
I can get a single egg pan for like four dollars from Meijer
A bargain if you can write off lol
@326th i bet there's lead in em
I’d pay this guy $40 to dance for me
I bet Bailey is ready to help you eat up those eggs!! And eggs are great for a shiny, healthy coat on a dog!!
#TeamFeedBaileyTheEgg
Pity they aren’t available in the UK. I’d make room for one of these in my little kitchen corner. I’d be curious to find out what happens if you put in 2 eggs and cook them on, say, ‘1-egg well done’ setting. Do the 2 eggs come out with softer yolks?
You remind me of a neighbor that recently passed away. It was hard watching this video. Great review and thumbs up.
I hope he tests setting 1 again after setting 6 and then compare the two eggs cooked at setting 1 - my guess the second egg will be a lot more cooked as the unit is now warm
Excellent! Thanks for doing that last test !
Don't you hate having to watch videos all the way to the end to find out that's exactly what happened.
@@markbajek2541 yeah, I tend to comment as I’m watching along 😁 thank goodness comments can be updated !
dorm cookery.
kind of a shame you didn't try a mixed egg. because i bet that would work great for sandwhich eggs.
Just what a growing family needs, a device to cook one egg at a time. 60 minutes later. Dad, where’s my breakfast?. 😂
Eggs are a beautiful specimen of food.
Unmatched versatility
The second egg was perfect for me. Guess I'd better start saving my pennies 'cause I am terrible at making fried eggs.
You’re not terrible you just haven’t made enough.
Not sure why you're on the fence about this one. Seemed to work perfectly. I can also see making pancake buns with this for homemade McGriddles 😋
I might have just found my new egg cooker, but is it truly set-it-and-forget-it? Does it stop cooking after the timer goes off?
8:08 - Now THAT is how I like my eggs!
Can you try making scrambled in it? Tyvm, love your channel.
I'll keep using my skillet. Might use it as I get older though. Great review, James. 🤗
I just make mine in a frying pan...3 at a time and come out great!
I Love Freakin' Reviews Videos 💗
The Dash Griddle cooks a fried egg very well, but I am preferring my AllClad small frying pan these days.
This is the first egg gadget I actually want. I have heII making over easy (runny yolk) fried eggs. I mangle them🤣
I have one of the earlier models. It doesn't have the dip in the middle. They must have never changed the instructions after they improved it. It cooks the yolk usually to one side. I took it to a hotel that charges for breakfast and it works great in the room.
It's small easy to pack, might be good when going on a trip. At home I would use my frying pan.
@@barcham You talking about not having a stove implies that. I just dont understand why you would not just get a small stovetop if that was the issue.
@@bloxyman22 A lot of dorms (and assisted living facilities) don't allow any type of open cooktop, so I could see a couple gadgets like this one being useful. I think my Mother would have liked something like this when she was in an assisted living facility.
I frequently have one or two eggs for breakfast and this looks like an easy and quick way to do so with minimal cleanup.
Were your eggs on the counter during the whole test? If so that first test got a fridge-cold egg and the last test got a much warmer egg.
Egg temperature before cooking influences cook time. Was the egg temp the same for first and last test?
By this point, it would not surprise me to see him holding up a live chicken and say something like "Yet another egg gadget. This one actually PRODUCES EGGS!".
That “tool” is basically a rice scooper 😂
Oh James, once again, you ARE the eggman! Great video as always 👍 Happy Saturday 🎉
That and the Dash waffle maker is good for RV's. It does what it says. and you can't mess up.
I love that every single breakfast gadget looks the exact same, my breakfast sandwich maker from 2010 looks the same as every single other one
This thing barely handling 2 eggs for $40 makes me even more grateful for the brand new dash 2 tier egg steamer i found at savers for $9! I'd love to see an egg cooker battle royale one day
How easy is it to clean? Does the cooking tray come out or is it just one unit?
There should be a setting between the first and second. That was perfect
I need between setting 1 and 2. I prefer to use a pan but this could be good for food at work / in the office
I cook egg in my dash pancake maker ; I bought one for my 87yo dad and he loves it too for cooking egg.
I'm going to try this with my Dash mini griddle. Just for the Hell of it.
Not for Pennsylvania folks. We call Sunny-side up “dippy” eggs because we dip toast in the yolk. 😂
I'd need at least two or three of these running to make my breakfast lol.
I like it. Especially for traveling. It does what it says. A little expensive but besides that, just let it preheat and you're good to go.
I still use and love my old cast iron. It’s faster to use and can cook more than 1 at a time!
I would use it pretty much daily
Eggs are what keeps me alive 😅
And tbh is not a joke, eggs have all the vitamins human needs except for the C which you can drink mixing a bit of lemon juice in watter
Frying pan is still the best since I usually make three eggs at a time. The unit works and doesn't take up much space in your kitchen, but it's really not needed.
Electric frying pan for the win!
I don't like using a frying pan that's much wider than the egg because the yolk spreads out wider than the bread.
How’s the weather in Las Vegas? There has been no summer in London this year
This might be a good product for me.
It's kinda expensive, but it seems like it works well for what you would buy it for.
I bought this, Nostalgia MyMini Personal Electric Griddle. I'm going to try it just using the time from your cooker. It's half the price.
missed opportunity to give the double well done a smiley face
I would only use this to make the 2 egg well done setting simply for sandwiches, it made a nice "sandwichable egg layer"
How much power does it draw can you run two of them at once on a single outlet it would have to draw 750 watts or less
When I was a kid, I would only eat the yolks on toast. My dog would happily finish my eggs like they were oysters
