Lauricia Van Der Hor Wellnafrikaans is a decendent from Dutch. Dutch settlers brought with them dutch language to South Africa.an estimated 90 to 95% of the vocabulary of Afrikaans is of Dutch origin. And they also have german loan words and english. Once again Rosy, you have brought another soothing video. Receiving a notification for your channel is instantly comforting. You are like a lifeboat in a stormy sea, especially at this time. Thank you beautiful lady.❤️ You are much appreciated 😘
I've learned a few Dutch words from the ASMRtist Brain Tingles, she's Dutch and did some show and tells with her Dutch cookbooks! The two languages definitely sound the same!
Gracias a tus vídeos hablando, no sólo me ayudas a dormir sino que también a aprender Inglés!!! Me pone feliz poder entenderte en todos los vídeos ♡ graciasssss ♡ Saludos desde Córdoba, Argentina c:
i'm Georgian and i'm studying Dutch, i know almost A2 and i can understand some Africaans, wow i liked it and i think i will study Africaans, they are similar
I miss Rosy ASMR. Her videos helped me get through a painful recovery after surgery. The videos were better at relaxing me than the painmeds. Thanks Rosy
I'm a belgian (flemish speaking) girl and i have a penpal in South Africa. Whenever i speak Dutch she would understand but whenever she speaks Afrikaans i barely understand which is funny. Although some words are pronounced the same as west flemish
@@lisa8012 yes and no in my opinion. Yes it is the same language but the accent are very different. As in even the dutch people dont understand eachother (same from flanders) let alone the other country.
This is entertaining because i am from south africa and can speak afrikaans and English se ja as jy nou vir my kan verstaan like die video asb en dankie
It's a weird situation for me, I understand Afrikaans when it's spoken to me, but I can't for the life of me speak it! Too much time in the UK and not enough time at home hey!
Rosy ASMR rosy what language do you usually speak with your friends and family? English ? Love your english accent its spot on 😊🌹 I am from sweden but I think I told you that. So I speak swedish 😊 swede 😉 like wat is jou naam is in swedish vad är ditt namn. So as you can see quite similar :)
Hi, Rosy! I have a wonderful Facebook friend who is from Cape Town and I fell in love with Afrikaans because of him. It honestly sounds super cool to my ears! In my native language - Bulgarian - we have exactly the same rolling r and I love this similarity very much. The guttural g is awesome too, but it's a bit difficult. It doesn't come naturally to me. 😬 But anyway... I'll be practicing and hopefully I'll get better. Wish me luck! 😁🍀 Thank you very much for the lesson! It was extremely helpful! Sending much love from Bulgaria! 🇧🇬💖🇿🇦
Liefs!
'Whatever your name is you would substitute for Rose... unless your name is also Rose' 😂 Super relaxing video and very interesting! As an englishman ive always found dutch and afrikaans as strangely understandable (the basics at least) its like brain fires thinking its hearing english but the words arent quite the same haha
This was a fun video to watch, and the comment section is just as entertaining, to see all the different people from all over the world relate. I know a little German myself so its interesting to see the similarities. You should become a teacher, Rosy, (if your not already) you are great at it!
I'm learning Dutch and know a little bit of Afrikaans from a The Little Prince book my cousin has, she's obsessed with this book and my uncle that travel a lot gave some copies of this book in other languages for her, one day I started to read the Afrikaans one to see the similarities with Dutch...I was baffled with the how similar it is, I didn't understood some words but I got most of it The differences between Dutch and Afrikaans reminds me a lot with the differences between European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese (there are other versions such as Angolan Portuguese but the Brazilian one is the most different one) and also European Spanish and Latin American Spanish And Latin Spanish has a lot variations between countries (i.e. Chilean Spanish is very different than Ecuatorian Spanish and so on), this also applies to Brazilian Portuguese as well bc we can have VERY different accents between states, i.e. Paulista accent, vocabulary and slangs are VERY different from the Cearense one, the Fluminense (or Carioca) one and so on It's so fascinating to see a certain language (i.e. Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish) being shaped to a brand new different one according with the region this language was introduced, with new words, new grammar rules, new slangs etc Loved this video, very interesting! ❤️ Btw my mother language is Brazilian Portuguese, the Paulista accent one!
Hey cute south African English Rose rosy I am amazed you are English didn't know that you're accent is still south African isn't it if I ever visit south Africa I will think of you because your the only south African I have on my subcribed list you're special I guess I would blush so much if I was at school in South Africa and was told to say words in afrikaans I have Manchester accent British and we don't even speak with good grammar lol I am 28 and tried to learn Spanish when I lived in Spain when I was 16 and I was terrible at it so I just give up on it rosy you're very cute and adorable please don't get hurt I will go listen to south African radio then watch you're video to sleep to thanks rosy xxxx
I wish the ex-colonizers would make Afrikaans compulsory at schools. In my opinion it’s a meaningful and very important language. Thanks for the video, it’s the only language and accent that helps me to sleep actually. Keep up the spirit God bless you!
To anyone wondering, dutch and afrikaans sound similar because people from the Netherlands come to south Africa and began colonization. they spoke dutch but the language changed with influence from native African language. (sorry for my bad explanation, not good with my history since i lived in south Africa only to mid primary skool
I’ve wanted to pick a 3rd language but I don’t think Afrikaans is for me unless you have a lot of time and patience. I heard another South African but sounds nothing like. Is the accent different,@ like the US depending on what part of the country one is in?
Lovely to see you! Really enjoy the sound of Afrikaans. Thanks for the video! BTW, how's covid19 situation down there? Sorry, but here news only talk about our own country. Hope you are safe and things there are controlled. Sending love! =^.^=
Thank you! We have 274 cases. Schools, large meetings etc. have been closed and I think most people are practicing self isolation like my family is. Hopefully it can be contained because my country doesn’t have the resources to deal with a large scale outbreak. Hope you and your loved ones are safe, sending love x
So playing a game I met a few South African lads(who I've become friends with) a oddly enough the first sentence I learnt was push(or press) the fucking button 🤣 druk de flokken cnappi. And now I'm here.
Funny how most Afrikaans speakers say they understand Flemish more than regular Dutch while for example: ‘What’s your name?’ is “Wat is jou(w) naam” both in Dutch and Afrikaans while in Flemish we’ll say ‘Wat is uw naam?’ I’d just think Dutch is easier to understand than Flemish :) Other example is: ‘How old are you?’ In Dutch is: ‘Hoe oud ben jij?” In Afrikaans: ‘Hoe oud is jy?’ And Flemish is: ‘Hoe oud zijt gij?’
I’m Dutch and I never knew Afrikaans and Dutch were this similar. It’s like you’re speaking Dutch with this cute little accent, love it
Ah that’s so sweet ☺️ I love that
Afrikaans not African lol
Afrikaans is similar to Dutch because Dutch immigrants settled in South Africa a long time ago. Most white South Africans are of Dutch descent.
twmusicoustic Oh well, I have English auto correction so it wasn’t on purpose. Sorry

Do you automatically get taught it in school growing up, or is it something people can elect to learn? I so wish I knew more languages!
