    - do not book with your usual account/member number so they cannot penalize you via your miles/membership

So Uber changes rates based on popularity of location, driver availability, etc.
When they take you to the place 10 miles away, they could be in a spot that is more advantageous to pick someone else up, or has easier drop off locations, or whatever, so they pass the lower price onto you.
The halfway point is more expensive because instead of passing through one of maybe a dozen possible routes, instead it's direct to that specific location in 5 miles. It could take longer per mile, use more gas, be more dangerous to stop there vs. just passing through, not have good drop-off or pickup points, etc. So they charge more.
Since you ditched, you now have a ride cancelation on your account. Every time you ride, the company knows you cancel rides.
Certainly you see how this can be annoying right? Lol. Driving isn't the best example either because you're often the only passenger in the Uber or Taxi.
Instead, imagine there is a second or third passenger. The system is trying to link you up with people within that journey. I try to get a ride from Cleveland to Cincinnati, and on the way, someone needs a ride from Cleveland to Columbus. Let's say it's only worth it for film to stop in Columbus and deal with their road construction because instead of driving back or having to find new riders, he's going to just continue taking you through the city to the next one. You paid less for your long trip because it's subsidized by several other short trips along the way. But then you just get put in the middle of a cornfield in the middle of Ohio. Now the driver has to drive all the way anyways or go back and find work, and any rides he picked up or might have been heading to on the way are moot and pointless.
Still not the best example, but with planes it involves dozens and dozens of travelers and fuel costs are much higher. It's the logical extreme.

No friend, it is not illegal. It is a legitimate ticketing scheme, however using the ticket as you discuss circumvents accepted ticketing parameters causing a carrier to lose money. I was a Reservations Sales Supervisor for TWA in the NYC Area Reservations Center at Two Penn Plaza, the office building above Madison Square Garden in midtown Manhattan from 1986-‘90. I learned about Hidden City ticket routing and other creative ticketing schemes. They are all legal to ticket. Your Example; Seattle - NYC - Richmond. This routing requires changing planes in NY. However upon arrival in NY get off the aircraft and leave. You don’t want to discuss your intention to not use the full ticket routing. And you can’t check-in luggage. If you do check your luggage it will be transferred in NY onto the flight to Richmond, so you can’t get it off of the plane in NYC. So just carry-on your luggage. Lastly this is only good to use going one way. If you buy a r/t round trip ticket SEA-RIC. Seattle to Richmond connecting through NY. And you fly Seattle to NY and stay in NY and not use the 2d leg of the ticket to Richmond. When your return is set, because you don’t get on the outbound return flight in Richmond, your 2d leg from NY to Seattle will automatically cancel because you didn’t board in Richmond. So recapping, this scheme is good for a low one way fare. To travel round trip is a different scheme, but I’m not going to discuss it here.

Started makin' trouble in my neighborhood.
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared,
And said "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air."
I whistled for a cab, and when it came near,
The license plate said "fresh" and it had dice in the mirror.
If anything I could say that this cab was rare,
But I thought "Nah forget it, Yo home to Bel Air."
I pulled up to the house about seven or eight,
and I yelled to the cabby "Yo homes, smell ya later."
Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there,
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel air.

  • @kmputertechsupplies2374
    @kmputertechsupplies2374 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The reason airlines don't like this is because there exist people who want to really go to c. The airline will now have to either
    1) send a new plane to c to satisfy the real demand to C which will now create a new flight with a lot of new empty seats.
    Or
    2) just say no to passengers which will make airline travel in the long-run unreliable. Costing everyone time and money...
    ........
Also remember flights are 2 ways, if 100/100 people board a plane A-B-C and 50 people get off at B, when that plane now leaves C-B-A there are only 50/100. This is not economical to the airlines, it's a business, and if they do not make money, they will stop. It will not hurt the airline but it will hurt the people who need to go A-C.
While this "hack" does work, it's an asshole move.

You will end up getting banned from airlines or be imposed outrageous “revenue integrity” fees for out of sequence use of your ticket. It’s against most airlines’ conditions of carriage to not use your ticket in full sequential order and they have all rights to enforce their own regulations. Airlines are businesses after all and all businesses have to make money somehow. So when an airline brands a fare from one city to another with a layover in a hub city per se, despite the customer saying they want to stop their journey in the hub, the contract the customer “signed” with the airline when they purchased that ticket stipulates they will fly that ticket fully in the order in which it shows. Misuse of that ticket is breech of contract and enforcement is up to the airline. It’s their fine print to “my house, my rules, you don’t like it, you don’t have to come to me!”

People are commenting absurd analogies. In my opinion it comes down to a few questions and a statement. My first question is if there are any laws stating this is illegal. The other question is there any current policies by airlines stating people can’t do this. That being said it’s within a company’s right to ban you since it’s their company unless the banning is based on a prejudicial circumstances. I look at it as a loophole. People exploit loopholes sll the time. If there is a loophole present then you can’t blame people for using it even if you don’t agree with it. I think of it as filing taxes. Why wouldn’t you use a loophole that is legal on your taxes to save money. I’ve never heard a person say they want the government to take more of their money
