There's a lot to like about how you do battle reports... the added visuals and sounds of course, but also that you make it about the game, not yourselves. You don't start off the vids shouting at the camera like coked up dudebros... and it never feels like you're just shills for product. Excellent stuff that I enjoy watching. Thanks for making it!
In close combat, you test for morale as soon as you lose wound-wise, not just if you're below 50%. However, if you fail morale in CC AND you're below 50%, you rout.
Remember that some would count a pile of rubble as “difficult terrain” allowing a Max movement of 6’’, this is a way you can position to avoid a charge. Other than that awesome batrep, and crisp paint jobs :) hope to see more!
Hi Andreas. You make a very valid point. However, I've found that in the give and take world of tabletop gaming (and relationships) sometimes it's best to acquiesce to the other party's interpretation of the rules. For the greater good, as the TAO would say.
You two have inspired me to transition to GF. I’ve actually been building and painting again after a long break. Please, keep these fun bat reps coming.
I'm pretty sure there was a mistake with the Blast rules. They've been recently changed so that if the extra hits you get are capped at the amount of troops you're actually fighting. So the 18 hits on the Grunts should have been 10
I know this is a late reply, but each individual Blast hit is capped, not the total hits. So long as there are at least 3 Grunts, each Hammer hit gives 3 hits, leading to a total of 18.
About 2:30, I think you misstated the cover rule. It's not true that if one model in the unit is out of cover, you can shoot at it and hit the whole unit with no cover penalty. The rule for Cover Terrain on page 13 of the rulebook says, "If the majority of models in a unit are in or behind a piece of cover terrain, enemy units shooting at it get -1 to their hit rolls." So in a 10-model squad, if at least 5 of them are behind a wall, the whole squad counts as being in cover. It favors the defender, not the attacker. (For large models like tanks, the way I've usually seen it played is that you see if half the *model* is obscured, so a low wall won't give cover to a tank but a building would.)
5 models out of a 10 man squad isn't the majority though, rules as written 6 out of 10 must be in or behind cover to grant the entire squad the benefit of being in cover. I think what Lee meant to say was that even if you can draw line of sight to only a single model out of a 10 man squad, you can still hit and potentially kill the entire squad, including the 9 models you can't even draw line of sight to (albeit on a -1 to hit for all shots). Idk if that's actually the case but I think that's what he meant.
Is the Overwatch action a homebrew rule? I can't find it in the core rules... I think it made things feel a bit passive. Also, I definitely think it was a bit of a shame that the Battle Suits weren't deployed more aggressively. They were kind of wasted just hiding away and firing just a pair frag grenades each turn. Finally, I love seeing the old Broadside. I believe the newer Broadsides (which have been scaled up) are generally used as Heavy Battle Suits, which is how I plan to run mine... but it looks a bit scrawny for a Toughness 12 Unit so I think it's kinda fitting to just run them as Battle Suits with Indirect weapons.
OldHammer bro. I’ve got a slew of metal space marine and eldar dreads from 93’-95’ish still on square bases! That’s what they came with. Rules for 40k were better in those days….
That's to do with Daoism where disputes about how to romanize the Chinese characters has lead to alternate English pronunciations of Daoism... Both GW's T'au and the OPR TAO don't really have any reason to follow this rule and should have a T sound.
Um... why did you not move your suits up and attack and why did you not activate the shot gunners for Tao move up and shoot they were wasted? how do scouts/pathfinders have a 4 up save against mortar rounds? Why does the tao not have more ap? too many things do not add up
sorta same crap as GW where the space marines are OP and favored... The Tau are squishy like most xenos... They should have had a shield drone in the group...assuming Grimdark has that mechanic for Tau in their lore... I know if they dont I will add it...
At 14:25, you rolled six attacks with Blast(3), which all hit, resulting in 18 hits against a unit of 10 models. You played that correctly according to the version of the rulebook you had, but the rulebook has recently had an update. Now, Blast is limited to generating no more than one hit per model in the target unit. So under those new rules, the unit of 10 models would have needed to roll 10 defense dice, not 18, and it's likely that more of them would have survived. To compensate for this nerf to Blast, Blast now *ignores cover*, so firing grenades is a very effective way to deal with an infantry squad hiding behind a wall. See onepagerules.com/2022/01/07/new-year-new-game-version/ for more details.
You're actually reading that rule incorrectly. Yes, Blast can't generate more than one hit per model in the target unit, but that limit is for each *individual* attack with Blast. So as long as the target unit has at least 3 models in it, every Blast(3) hit can fully multiply. As such, the rule was applied correctly, even after the change. The change itself was largely intended to stop Blast from basically functioning at full effectiveness against single model units. Blast(3) is at full effectiveness against anything but solos or already decimated units (as even elite units have 3 models). Blast(6) however starts to show diminishing returns even against standard squads (5 models), so you want to use those weapons to shoot at swarm size or combined units (10+).
The older minis and the battlefield in a box terrain gives these games great nostalgic vibes :)

I love the added flair of the narrative commentary without slowing down the pacing of the gameplay
I love your battle reports. They are fast, but clear. Casual feeling, but also oddly cinematic. Very good stuff!
Love these Batreps. Makes the game feel very thematic and narrative. :)
Love your little added special effects, it is amazing to see that small detail of an explosion on the zoomed out view.
Thank you for these battle reports! Love your guy's style of commentary. Took my friends and I out of our 40k slump and got a few games in already.

Great batt rep format and killer commentary. Would love to see more! Subbed!
I really enjoy these OPR videos. Many thanks for posting!
Coming soon to a theater near you...."The Charge of the Jackals".

Really enjoyed this, lovely to see the classic TAO colours too.
Those TAO are painted so beautifully! (As are the battle brothers!)
I haven't even reached the end of this and I am now completely sold on OPR. Now I just need to find a place in NYC to play
Great looking board and armies :) also fun battle report! Congrats!
Yes so happy to see this posted!
thanks for another video on this topic :)

@@TheSpoonisme ooooooh I see, thanks!
I like the paint jobs on the Battle Brothers. I'm painting mine as the Maltese cross legion also.
More please! Subscribed.
Great video. Always wanted to see the TAO coalition in action.

Great Bat Rep. lots of fun. Keep them coming! Loving OPR (at least what I’m seeing. Still haven’t found anyone to play yet😞)
It buggers me extremely that there are only 9 grunts in that combined TAO unit! :D
The short format is very nice.
Hi Eric. Yeah, I noticed that in the editing process. Stuff happens.
Just getting into GF and enjoy these videos. Subbed for more GF stuff.
Great paint jobs as well!
Nice use of Protectorate of Menoth focus tokens!
They were on clearance!
As far as pronunciation goes, TAO would be the same as Tau.
Thanks for the batrep! :D
Right, not to be confused with T'Pau

Hi Justin. Yeah, I was trying hard not say "Tau" since we weren't playing 40k. I still slipped up a few times though.
Hammertime!
Great video and play though.
Where did to get the fire marker for your burning vehicle?
Glad you enjoyed the vid. That flame marker is just a tuft of painted pillow stuffing on top of a tea light.

Overwatch is one of the optional rules in the full rule set.
@@oldhammered Ah neat! Thank you!
Look forward to seeing more OPR games [especially with the classic TAO/T'au models].

Strange question, but what table size are you playing on?
Hi Nate. The table itself is 42x42. The mat is roughly 36x42. One Page Rules calls that a kitchen table size game.
that dread being on a square base makes my eye twitch

You should have done turn 5.
Does stealth and cover stack anyone know?
Yes it does. Just ask my Shadow Hunter (Lictor) in a building :-)
I love your original tau paint scheme. So bummed the GW promotional material moved away from the ochre palette.
Sure TAO and TAU are pronounced exactly the same, and just heard you pronounce it that way whilst typing 😂
Tao in Google translate says it’s pronounced Dau in English… sounds so weird.. I’m going with what you said their the T.A.O
