Your parents are SO wholesome. They remind me of my parents. I don't know why, but I have the feeling if I ran a TH-cam channel, my dad would wear a t-shirt for it as well. Awesome vlog!
Thank you!
I live in San Diego, so Belmont park and Seaworld were my go-to parks, glad to see my first coaster being revamped slightly, even though it was 3 months ago.
Can't wait to ride it again! I tried it once back in 2020 and was left disappointed at how rough the entire ride was 😢
What an enjoyable video!! Great job! I'm gonna HAVE to try that Draft place!
You couldn't know how much that place has changed, not only since the 80's when the coaster was an old burnt wreck with its chipped paint surrounded by weeds and sand drifts...but even after the 1988 opening of all the new buildings when it was a 'shopping center' with its fancy schmancy boutiques. Once I entered the Save the Coaster Committee in 1981 and found out that the goal was to put it back in operating condition, there was never any doubt in my heart that it would somehow happen. Earlier, in 1981 I presented a proposal to keep the coaster with a rendering of a 'revitalized amusement center' with mini golf, jungle gym, little race course, sky slides, all under and within the frame of an inoperable coaster (up until 1981 NObody thought that would come back to life). So little did I know then that BOTH dreams would come true!! Belmont Park is BACK!!! Oh...and some Trivia regarding "Earthquake". The coaster was originally named Giant Dipper. In 1955 the motor and station house caught fire, killing the entrapped president of the Mission Beach Coaster Company. They coaster was almost torn down at that time, until new park operator Jack Ray took over, changed "Mission Beach Amusement Center" into "The New Belmont Park" and he totally restored the coaster. When it opened back up 5/31/57 the Giant Dipper sign was never replaced and the name forgotten. For years it was just called "Roller Coaster" until a 'name the coaster contest' in the spring of 1976, the winning name was the very apropos "Earthquake." Then the park closed a few months later.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
This was my first wooden coaster and I rode it just 1-2 years before the re-track. I had way more fun that I should’ve on it even though the first drop was pretty brutal
It’s always been a fun ride, but man that drop was rough! Glad it isn’t anymore 😄
out of all the times i've driven past Giant Dipper, i've never seen it run.
Oh wow, I live in Coronado, gonna have to go up there. I can’t believe they retracked that thing! I thought Belmont Park’s “people” were resistant to change it cause it’s a historical landmark!
Great video! Looks like a nice park! Nice seeing you all wearing your merch. I hope sales are doing pretty well. I got a sticker and cup so far and hope to get a light grey t shirt or maybe blue one instead soon when i have some more money.
Thanks Michael! I appreciate the support 🙏🏻
@@CoasterDash You're very welcome 🙏
Pretty cool you were able to make all your trips so far without a driver's license. Shows how resourceful you are. Despite being born and raised in a state with some of the better public transportation around (MA), getting to any of my local parks by public transit is borderline impossible.
I rode this in September 2023 it nearly broke my back it was so rough but still really fun.
I used to hear people say “my back hurts” or “my head hurts” after riding Giant Dipper. Not after this retracking 😆
I will have to have a think if it is worth another trip from the uk to have a ride!! lol .. love the brunch in draft too.. @@CoasterDash
Way smooth
Catapult falls just opened up, I rode it and the launch was meh the slash after the launch was nice got me soaked, the splash after the drop looks disappointing but it actually also got me soaked a bit
Oh, nice! We used to stay near there once a year but we haven't for a while and maybe we should bump that up in priority to get back down there.
Great vlog Marc! That brunch looks legit and Giant Dipper hasn’t looked this good in my lifetime! Thanks for the awesome video as always!
I appreciate the kind words!
Nice vlog! I got to get out to San Diego to ride Giant Dipper!
Love the abiance.
Question - At this park and Sea World, do you ever get to see or hear any Air Force Jets fly by, and if so, do you have any sweet videos for coaster and aviation lovers?
I must’ve rode this right before the retrack cause I rode it back in December, and I thought it was rough
Yeah, that was just before they got to work. Hopefully you can get on it again in the near future!
Imagine this as an rmc
This coaster intrigues me because of its history and colors. おめでとうございます (Congratulations!) on getting your Driver’s License🚗 It’s definitely not Mario Kart so be smart and safe on the road😂👍🏻🍄
I like the coasters history too. I don't think driving is a big deal. I'm a defensive driver and always careful and never had any issues. Driving is fun to a degree.
@@michael7054 It’s a joke since Marc is the biggest Mario fan👍🏻 I never really learned how to properly drive in a city until I moved away and it’s definitely been a learning experience. Where I grew up, it was the suburbs so definitely not as many cars and traffic compared to where I live now.
@morganmcmahon3021 Yeah parallel parking takes getting used to and it's definitely busier. I've driven all over cities like Columbus ohio and Cincinnati Ohio. I don't think it's a big deal. Just different. Yeah it was a good joke :)
It's nice that parks are taking care of these classic attractions just like Giant dipper! My home park (Six flags New England) Thunderbolt I heard was getting some track redone, which probably will enhance the ride experience! Thanks for the video, Marc! Nice meeting you at six flags new England!

Thanks for watching Aiden! Always great when these park take care of their classics 🙌🏻
Music video of the restoration (sorry for the poor video tape quality). th-cam.com/video/wA3FNgZpuMc/w-d-xo.html
I didn't know they had retracked Giant Dipper! Next time I'm down in San Diego I'm gonna have to check it out. Hopefully the retracking means the ride is a little smoother than it was the first few times I rode it 😅😅
Congrats on getting ur license, I keep procrastinating mine 😭😭😭 Also giant dipper looks really good right now!
Ay NO WAY you visited one of your home parks on my BIRTHDAY of all days of the year!🤯
Great video Marc
Thank you :)
@@CoasterDash you’re welcome
Congrats on passing the driving test. I passed two weeks ago after two years of practise. (The British test is insanely difficult)
w they be playing NASCAR in the background
Glad they fixed it up! Can we get a back row POV? It looked like it was more forceful in the back from your off-ride footage.
Thanks Roger! I’ll be sure to snag a back seat POV at some point in the future.
Looks smoother than Mine Blower
Oh, easily!
The last time I rode this was last november, and I made the mistake of sitting in the back row
It used to be brutal in the back car!
I can't tell if the retrack is wooden or if the ride got RMC track or GCI titan track. The rails are dark, so it's difficult to tell without riding it.
It’s still wooden
Isn't there a Giant Dipper in Santa Cruz that's very similar?
Yeah. Same manufacturer. Both are Prior & Church woodies but Giant Dipper at SCBB is more airtime focused and one year older
@@IntaminFanGRLPowerCoastersThe cars on the SCBB are Prior & Church, but the builder was Arthur Looff in 1924. It's a Looff wooden coaster and has a totally different track layout than the coaster at Belmont Park!!!
hi
Is parking free there? If yes, where do I park if I want to enjoy free parking?
It is! There’s free parking on either side of the park. If all the spots are filled up, try across the street.

@@CoasterDash lol you're my favorite TH-camr
If I had a nickel for every time if something that would end up changing my life didn't happen that I would learn to drive, I's have 2 nickels...which isn't a lot, but its interesting that it happened twice
Those of us who had the "privilege" of riding the coaster back in the '70s, know the true definition of "janky." You have no clue. . .
