  • I bought a Saab 9-3 1.9 TiD and had to change my opinion on whether a diesel convertible is acceptable to own for a petrolhead... what do you think? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You showed the boot when the roof was up, and then the cover for the roof when the roof is down will just hang down from the top of the boot, giving the impression that it is a very tiny boot, but the cover can be pushed up giving the booth almost twice the volume! Boot volume roof up: 352 liter
    Roof down: 235 liter

The swoopy button on the key switches on the lights so you can find your car in the dark. Sort of like "Oi! I'm over here you daft beggar" As you found out it also activates the panic alarm on long press.

Bought one for 2k of Ebay 3 years ago. Great fun to drive. Loads of pull. Feels solid.
Get one whilst you can !

The price in Sweden is a lot higher; 10-15k EURO is normal and for low mileage it can be a lot higher. Almost all cars for sale in Sweden are imported. Here it is already regarded as a classic. My recommendation is take good care of it and keep it. It’s going to be a good experience and investment

Future classic? One fine looking car and certainly makes a change from the merc and BMW convertibles.

I have an EOS 2.0tdi, was a great car, low consumption, but not longlasting the materials, the door cover, the mirror cover, the leather seats etc. and rusty

Not really a Vauxhallengine. The z19dth-engine was made by Fiat and were put in Alfas, Opels and other brands owned by GM including Vauxhall.

His comments about the interior finish durability completely applies to VW/Audi interiors of the era as well.
Sounds like some of his other complaints are just that he can't appreciate the uniqueness of SAAB's. Yet, by the same token, if it was set up exactly like any other regular mid-market to up-market brand in the interior, he seems the type of bloke to simultaneously complain that GM had "killed the uniqueness of the company and what made it special".

I owned a C70 mark 2 with the metal roof as a diesel and it was amazing. Beautiful looking open or closed IMO way better looking than the mark 1. also the interior is way more upmarket, they lost the plasticky look altogether. Only downside was a massive transmission failure that left me with no reverse in my holidays 😪(fixed under warranty though). My next one will be a mercedes e class 350 diesel cabrio (2010 - 2016 model), so no diesel dissing here...

Beware that from 2008 the 93 cabrio became a totally new car! Stiffer construction, much nicer exterior,
more quality buttons on the dash etc.etc. The aero ttid diesel with double turbo and 180hp used 0,5Liter/10km. With a software update ≈350$ you would have 210hp and torque 400nm at 4000rpm!

Diesels are OK so long as they either have plenty of umph, OR they are hyper milers that getting silly huge mpg

Diesel rag/tin tops are OK to drive unless it's an audi A 4.They sound like Massey Furguson field scrapers.

My local specialist recommends 5w-30 for this motor, needs to be GM Dexos 2 (Dexos D from 2025). I've been using Mannol low saps for the Tid and Alfa JTDM for the last five years and my cars all work perfectly despite age and mileage. 0w-40 for the twin turbo (TTid) - not sure why to be honest, but either car change the filter. Lazy previous owner's garage on one of mine hadn't drained the oil or changed the filter and I had to replace the turbo.
