  • Thank you, Kevin for bringing this lovely Saab for me to have a drive of.
Unfortunately a few things went wrong with the filming and it didn't turn out quite as well as I would have liked

Have a 2005 Aero convertible that I have had for six years - restoration as I could afford - Black diamond drilled and grooved discs , Maptune exhaust , Bilstein shock absorbers , Noob Tune stage 1 remap from 210 BHP to 260 , strut brace - timing chains can go at about 100k as tensioner wears - about £750 at specialist - mine went - prone to coil
    misfires - judders on acceleration.
Body work is great as you take wing liners off and treat anything lurking
Car has 5 star safety rating - very strong 💪 Worst aspect is the interior plastics can look shabby quickly - mine never let me down in six years - lots of spares about new and used as Swedish Govt underwrote supplies production. when Saab went under - need to service properly and regularly - mine goes to RTJ in Stockport Saab specialists 👌

Great review, nice car. Had a Saab 9-5 for a couple of years, it had over 200,000 miles on it and was fantastic. To this day, it had the most comfortable seats of any car I’ve owned. I called it Simon and, apart from a wheel bearing and the usual worn out gear linkage, it did not cost me a bean. Great cars, shame G.M. saw fit to kill the brand off, look what they gave us in return....., dreadful junk !.

Lots of people think the SAAB was just a rebadge Vauxhall \ Opel. It wasnt, it was virtually re engineered on the epsilon platform. SAAB did at least 2 versions of the 9-3 that had the same engine but with different turbo settings to give different BHP. Imnot sure if the top of the range (Viggen?) had a bigger engine but put out over 200 bhp. The convertible was one of the best around at the time. The key in the console was a safety feature that prevented the driver's knee getting injured in a front end collision and sadly many cars still have the key in the steering column today. You could feel a little scuttle shake if you pushed the car butnothing exceptional.

If you liked this car....... you will love the 2.0T Aero 210hp version! Mine is a 2007, 6 speed in silver, with black interior. Firm (not hard) smooth ride, It goes like stink, with a window open or the top down, put your foot down & listen to that signature Saab turbo whistle, handles well (thanks to the Saab ReAxs passive 4 wheel steering system fitted to all Aero`s post 2003, this combats torque steer, & enhances cornering), & for me, this generation 9-3 with the Aero pack body kit & uprated interior, is the best looking convertible, ever made......Engine management light.... My money says coilpack, before a 56 plate, they were beyond naff! A new replacement will be the unit they used from a 56 plate on, much more durable. That`s the only thing I can think off the top of my head, that would flag up a code on the petrol....

@@guitarlover302 I've never made up my mind about that colour.... yes mine is a Jan 07 car, & was picked up for £2900, 3 years ago. So far it owes me a pair of top strut bearings, a screen washer pump & a pair of wipers. Apart from regular oil changes & I changed the brake pads, that's it! Brilliant gorgeous looking car!

Not only the Aeros have the ReAxs steering, but all 9-3s 2003-. It’s subtle, but when you know it’s there, you can definitely feel it in tight corners.

@@heinzketchup3323 I'm sorry... but i have it direct from Abbott Racing Saab.... ReAxs is on the Aero sedan, convertible & sport combi ........only.

@@brobno9 Can you show me a source of that information? Wherever you look it is advertised as being present across the board. I’m sure someone would have noticed it missing while driving or under the car.

I had a Saab 9000cse auto it was a nice car. I have often looked at the Saab 93 they spent a lot of money developing these car's they managed to put themselves out of buisness. Don't believe everything you read on the back of a car I have learned this lol.😂 Saab took Vauxhall running gear and made it better. They thought the Vauxhall gear box was rubbish so put there own in. Nice one mate good review everyone makes a few mistakes 🤙👍

The 2L and 1.8 are the same, just the 1.8 is a slightly de-tuned version with the smaller Turbo. I have a 9-3 Saloon with the 2L and the engine is amazingly smooth and so much grunt, the power is so smooth. Not too much and not too little, just right for a daily car.

    Two thing's of concern.
Why are all us mg rover guys always ending up with pony tails and proper beards at some stage.
Also why do we all love Saab's and want one as an alternative car to own. I'd love a 93 auto convertible.

I love Saabs. They are much missed. I would have this 9-3 over a Mercedes CLK or 3-Series 'vert any day. Much more understated.

Disguised as a Vauxhall vectra underneath 😁 FPT or lPT model? Colour is going to be hard for resale but I like it 👍🏻

Yeah, he engine size and power can be confusing. You have the 2.0t and the 2.0T (case is important). I have the 2.0T, which off the line is 210 Bhp. But mine has a sports clutch, power turbo, and is mapped, so is around 250 - 260 Bhp, and around 300 Nm of torque. Nevertheless, no-one will be sad driving a Saab 9-3 Limey :) Of course, mine is a 2006 model, so still has the Saab engine, too. Goes like Sh!t of a shovel.
