- They are sailor's out looking for a good time with two young lovelies. Stan and Ollie are out to impress, they intend to buy drinks (in a soda fountain) for everyone, but Stan only has 15 cents, enough for 3 sodas. Sodas were 5 cents in 1929! Here is Jimmy Finlayson doing several of his patented "double-take and squint' looks.
Testament to their timeless comedy genius , is the fact people , some 100years later still find them hilariously funny ..... young or the old .....without doubt, the finest comedy duo there's ever been......
I totally `grasped the situation` that this scene is absolute perfection. Two comedy geniuses who totally eclipse anybody from the modern age. Timing, grace, humility, and a wonderful sense of innocence permeate through this sketch from start to finish.
So very true
Perfectly put
Well put they will never be bettered
Never in my lifetime or my grandchildrens. Stan & ollie, simply the greatest.
A perfect description.
1:34 Geez! Finlayson's wonderful eye squint! One of the great most memorable facial quirks in the history of comedy!
“Well, you keep asking me!” 😂😂😂 these two are the #1 comedians of all time!!
Pulls the hair from Ollies chest and twiddles them onto the floor 🤣🤣..!!
That was one Stan's in other movies pulled Oillie's chest hair
James Finlayson was in a class all to himself, comic genius
This is probably my favourite of all their shorts. From start to finish it's a comedy masterpiece. If you watched it every day for a year you'd still crack up
Brats and Laughing Gravy absolutely kill me too.
My half was at the bottom. Lol 🤣🤣😂😂🇬🇧🇺🇸 loved them they were the best comedy duo in history and they'll never be another like them. ❤❤❤😁😊
Absolutely. Stan & Ollie are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the greatest comedy team of all time. 🎬📽️🎞️🎥🎦 🎭🎭🎭🎭🎭 😁😁😁😁😁
The future can b full of surprises, mayb in a 100 or 200 years from now, a new partnership could appear
Years later Abbott and Costello copied the idea behind this scene. I think, for them, it was a sandwich.
One of the greatest sketches of comedy ever. Its magic. God bless you both
The 15¢ routine is one of Laurel & Hardy's more famous routines. 🎥🎭😁
BROOKLYN NEW YORK, The True Original Kings Of Comedy
They are just so far ahead of any other comedy duo that ever lived or ever will.
Stan was so cute the way he acted! And Ollie always used much more patience with him!
They certainly are! So are Stan's expressions and gestures! 😀
"Alright, I'll have a banana split!" 😂😆
*points at self*
Imagine taking your date to a soda fountain today? Of course we don't have any now.
3 absolute giants of comedy.
This is my most favorite scene from any laurel hardy movie.
The ideas they come up with!! They were genius!!
131 utter miseries! How COULD ANYONE not love this.
Babe breaking the 4th wall at 4.50, first comic to do that. The best there ever was, best there ever will be...
priceless and timeless magic from the masters!
Absolute brilliance. Stan and Ollie were THE BEST......
Absolutely! 😁😁😁😁😁
It's so hard to improve on perfection. Words are inadequate to say how utterly brilliant this short is. They will live on as the best of the best. I bless the day they met😂😂❤️♥️
Recommended viewing: "Stan and Ollie," the new film about the best comedy duo in history.
These great gentlemen been so fantastic. We love them.
Next time I share the last can of beer , justifiably correct
"My half was on the bottem" 😂😂 genius!
In That case, Stan should've used a straw
Jimmy Finlayson (the bartender) was also hilarious ! LOL
Good morning to you, good morning to you
Good morning, bartender, good morning to you
The person behind the counter of a ice cream parlor is called a "soda jerk," not "bartender."
Lowell Thomas, Jr. yes he was with that look
He played the guy who calls up Spanky in the little Rascals. "Hello, who is this?" "I don't know, I can't see ya"
He appeared in many laurel and hardy films
Wonderful comedy from masters of comedy brilliant.
Five cents per soda - good price!
Crazy thing is I have 20 cents in my pocket right now, I would lend them the dime😂.
Evergreen!!
Probably the best comedy line ever !
Stan looks so cute in his sailor suit 😍😭😭😭
Hyacinth Bucket springs to mind.
I'm going to have to remember that!
YOU REFUSE!!! 😂
I couldn't help it;my half was on the bottom! The best joke ever!
The word Classic is banded around far to often on modern shite, this is a True Classic
Absolutely. 😁
This is BRILLIANT
Absolutely class
Timeless!🤣😂😆 👏👏👏👏👏
Brilliant!! Nothing further to say.
Finlayson as always the fly on the ointment , so funny the whole thing
Bananasplit! Priceless!!
I just love the way Oliie tips his hat forward at 1.50 .....Genius!
What, no military discount?

Truly great duo
The Real Masters of their Profession
Best ad for root beer ever. I went out bought 6 pack of it next day and drank my half which was at the bottom
😆😆😆😆😆
😀😀🤣😁😁😁😂😅😅laurel.and hardy style sir.
"My half was on the bottom!" - Classic. This is without doubt one of the funniest scenes in the history of film. So beautifully understated. Much better than any of the crap that passes for comedy these days. Stan and Ollie were worth 10 billion Seth MacFarlanes.
+animfan98 Only 10 Billion......
👍👍👍👍👍 😁😁😁😁😁
animfan98 Laurel and Hardy were true greats. Genius. The best ever. However, little unfair on Seth. Seth MacFarlane is very good. Not fair to put him down because he’s not a genius.
@@vantheman1234 just putting appropriate context.
these will be remebered in a thousand years.😅
Also, Seth MacFarlane is a very crass and cruel person, whereas Laurel and Hardy didn't have to resort to using sexually explicit material to get laughs AND they were universally regarded as nothing but kind, sweet, loving people.
Best Comedy Team Alltime, hands down.
How could anyone put thumbs down to these comedy geniuses!
Every time I go out with friends I always ask "Soda, soda, soda. And what will YOU have, Stanley?"
Soda
Can I have a banana split?
Soda
Frassasaaas👍
The blonde girl in this skit died as a result of childbirth problems in her early twenties. Such a sad loss.
Yes,Gloria Greer died 2 years after making this movie, at the age of 23. Very sad.
@@mrsbrownandhercat How sad! 😢
Finlaysons looks are priceless!
Master of the slow burn and double take
@@Sshooter444 And at least partially the inspiration behind Homer Simpson’s catchphrase.
YOU MUST REFUSE!!
I just love these two legends 🤣🤣
This one is a classic!
49 people don't like frasassas 😂
blind deaf and dumb with sense of humour bypass
Stan Laurel's 15 cents would be equivalent of two dollars and twenty seven cents today's standards...
"My half was on the bottom" I love Stans whiny face :-D
Stan was the only one who had money so he was entitled to drink both halfs, lol. The way Oliver says Sassafras cracks me up every time 🤣🤣🤣
Just found this clip, I used to watch them as a kid...now I'm 30 and this scene still cracks me up!!
I'm just putting it on for the GOILS!
those galls have a lot of patience
hahaha these days 2000, no more.
I think it’s pronounced ‘goyles’ 😂
Oh, hardly ever. But I do and that's what counts!
" I have an idea. When I ask you to have a drink. You refuse!"
Oh great.Thanks very much!
Soda, soda, soda...banana split.
That last bit was genius! xD
never beat it
Best comedian
I did this to my dad and sent me this
I love the way Stan doesn't take any shit.
You must refuse!!
yea but the bill was 30 cents
Oliver Hardy. Soda soda soda, and what will you have Stan.
Stan Laurel. Soda!!.
I'll never get bored watching Laurel & Hardy, this will still be funny a 100 years from now when we're all dead
I'm 17 and enjoy this a lot lol
never be bettered son.😀
Has anyone got a clip of the ice cream parlour “what other flavours have you not got” is another classic
karl smith That would be the film Come Clean(1931).
We don't have chocolate! What flavor is this? CHOCOLATE!
They’re so cute and funny. “The goyles” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My dad watches this sort of thing with me and I love it
4:02 - DOHHHHH!!!
"but I dont like frassasass"
One of the finest funniest scenes. Perfect delivery hugely entertaining. Must of had some laughs recording this.
James Finlayson Doh
One of the more famous Laurel & Hardy routines. 😁
Did Stan just pull out one of Oliver’s chest hairs? 😂🤣
Yes he did! 😁
comedy at its best by the pros of comedy
Exactly! 😁 👍
Absolutely brilliant.
Was it funnier when the sodas turned out to be 10c?
2019 brilliant
I liked olli's way when he shaking his hand to say just moment hhh I used to just tha same hhhh that priceless
If I were Laurel, I would have taken lead before Hardy and say "Soda, soda, soda (pointing to myself) and what would you have Ollie? I think you wouldn't have anything. OK, we will proceed."
But that would ring a bit false because Stan would (at the drop of a hat) be out of character. Comedy only really works by remaining true to character. Had the barman interjected on this final attempt to order, BEFORE Ollie could point to himself in relation to ordering the third soda, by his asking Stan "And I take it you want a soda", to which Stan quickly replies, "Yes, please!", then your envisaged situation of Ollie having to be the fall guy could believably have been carried off.
It's probable they went through all the permutations of possible scripts, but let's not quibble too much. My only quibble with this scene is that the camera does not pan back a little (or quickly jump to) to include something of the young ladies' reactions. But this was made in 1929! Sound on film was still new then. Film-making was still new.
Soda!
This is were douh is coming not from the Simpson
COMEDY LEGENDS
Only L&H fans would know that joke very well. 😃
Timeless comedy :)))))
Hahahahaha, you've got to love these guys.
