I had a very hard time with Ship of Magic and it took a very long time to get into it. BUT MAD SHIP is my favorite book by a mile in that trilogy. You'll love it Theo. So yes, that one please!

I wanted to join the buddy read with the Gwynne books but just had too many other books I wanted to get to and many of them came from the library so I felt I should get those read and returned. Plus I have already read all of Gwynne's books. Definitely want to reread them all! Working on the Green Bone saga right now, and still struggling with Deadhouse Gates. I wanted to join the ranks of people who think Malazan are the greatest books ever but not sure it is a good fit for me. I know you will choose right for yourself in your next book.

Hi Theo. July wrapped with a memoir by Diahnn Carrol and Sundial by Catriona Ward. Ward is becoming a new horror favorite along with Stephen Graham Jones. August is starting with no clear trend, now reading Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee, The Confessions of Nat Turner by William Styron, Jane Eyre, and The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I'll settle on one and put the others aside for now. I'm undecided. Happy reading.
On my August TBR I have: «First Book of Lankhmar» (a «Fafhrd & the Grey Mouser» by Fritz Lieber Omnibus, so will spread these Classic S&S short stories inbetween the other books), the «Vindolandia» Trilogy by Adrian Goldsworthy (Historical Fiction, set along the Hadrian Wall), «The Tartar Steppe» by Dino Buzzati (Fiction with Kafkaesque features set along a border about to break into war, have the 70s movie adaptation: Gorgeous! Filmed on location at an actual ruined fortress in Iran, with soundtrack by Ennio Morricone!), «Count Belisarius» by Robert Graves (Historical Fiction, about the Byzantine General and Conqueror, often dubbed «The Last Roman»), and «The Last King of Lydia» & «The King and the Slave» by Tim Leach (Historical Fiction centered on Lydian King Croesus and the Persian Empire)!
