  • A customer brought us this 135HP Evinrude Ficht to diagnose a "no power" issue. We found the printed circuit board to be bad. While it was here we scanned the motor and reamed the water cooled ECU to prevent a future overheat. We always run motors before they leave our shop and when the motor wouldn't start we found his spark plugs to be fouled. Once replaced it started up and ran perfectly.
We have been re-manufacturing outboards for over 30 years. In that time we have learned which motors are the most reliable in the long run. We believe that the history of an outboard over its life span is the best judge of its quality and reliability. Check out all the models we rebuild on our website at outboardexchang...
If you'd like a copy of any of the documents we mention in our videos please feel free to send us an email and we would be happy to share them with you.

I just purchased a 99 115 with an emm on the top like that only it was gold in colour. The water passage was completely blocked with around 3inches of hardened salt. 😢 have I bought a dud. I did see the motor running for a few minutes but didn't get it out on the water.

Clear out the salt passage and then scan it and see if the EMM ever overheated. If it overheated more than 10 times the EMM might blow pretty quick.

@Oexchange appreciate the quick response thanks. I'll have to get it going on a stand and have someone come out to scan it unless I can purchase equipment to do it myself. Unfortunately it was heavily clogged. It's been cleared now but not sure if it's dead or not yet. I would assume that much build up means it's pretty fried. It fires up and idles fine just not sure what it's like under load
