RD Burman never balantly or shamelesy copied western tunes like others ,thats why his songs are more sought now a days. Out of 2200 songs,you will only find 120 songs where he got inspired but others copied shamelessly . They even copied tunes,rhythms, similar sound but RD Burman mixed his own thinking,rhythm and made a diffrent song. Example - Tumse milke( Parinda) ,just listen the song by Lui Sayer when u need you,u will find just a touch of that song

Lot of Pakistani claims that Bollywood copies their music. But it's half truth, because Pakistani singers also copies their songs from middle East countries or Iranian music. Ex. Hawa Hawa, and the original songs were folk songs or qawallis which were songs of the land and no one has their copy right. Also the classical music used in those songs is Indian classical music.
There are few copies, but Pakistani music is mostly original, and most of the tunes and songs are copied. Now Reshma who was a folk singer, one of her songs is recently copied and Kriti Sanon is dancing on it. Even Lata sang a copy of Reshma's song "Yarraa Sili Sili"

In Pakistan, there are proper poets who write poetry and that is then composed and sung, it is not like two three people got together and copied songs from somewhere. Coke studio is famous, but you can look up the old ptv musical programs and even the dramas had proper music and lyrics from famous poets. The copy paste culture is more prevalent in India, because of making a quick buck. You can research it all you want, all our famous singers have sung songs from our famous poets.

I can't agree with the first part of your statement. It is the tune which make the song rhythmical and not the other way round. Lyrics are added to be able to sing a tune in some logical manner. You might not have heard such songs we have in the days of the audio cassettes recorders.
