The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Definitely, the sixties, with that hair style, the audience with men dressed in suits and women in dresses. A classy time.
Lana was good but the song…😮! Thanks for sharing!

The passion and talent that Lana puts into her performance are what saves a mediocre song...

Reading the comments just goes to show how musical taste is subjective.
I find her vocals and performance excellent singing this very good song.
I agree with another post….has a James Bond theme feel to it!

I was around at that time and I am unfamiliar with the song. It sounds like it should have been in a movie. She did a great job, as it must have taken a lot of practice to get it down the way she did. Great singer.

just how would you know if she did a good job with it?

Me too, I’m very surprised I’ve never heard the song or the great singer.

Freeze frame at 1:26 EVERY person in the audience was focusing on her, and they were all so well dressed. Lana Cantrell decided to pursue a law career in part because a former manager had spent much of her earnings over the years and she wanted to protect other performers from similar experiences. Lana is a lesbian and actress Judy Carne claimed to have had a love affair with her.

Adapted from Francis Lai's song "In our shadow" from his score for A MAN AND A WOMAN, 1966. Powerhouse performance from the incredible Lana Cantrell. I'm so glad more folks are discovering her voice!

As one who's life WAS wrapped around this woman's little finger, I have to say, I may be 66, but I don't remember this song. My mother saw her sing My Way on Sullivan one night long ago, and the rest is history. I sang and imitated her and my bff sang (better) and imitated Streisand. Those were the days. Pun intended.

I think she was an unfairly inderrated artist in her time, perhaps a not always good choice of songs for her television appearances had something to do with it, as in this case... I feel that here, her passion, her good technique and a decent orchestration are the only things that save this song...

Not a fan of the song, but nicely done. And the orchestra sounded fantastic as usual.

This song sounds a little awkward--not her performance--but lyrically. I wonder if it was originally written in something other than English.

Good voice, but somehow her songs and performances don't stick with me. I think there is something about the rhythm that just doesn't work (for me).

I was 6 when this was televised, great voice very powerful, song meh. Many have commented on the audience dressed and acting like humans. I remember as a kid people dressing like that and much more civil and civilize (even though Vietnam was dividing the nation). I don't know where class went in America - seemed to have died in the 1990s politics of hate.
