I still don't understand why colonisers are still buried there, we call ourselves Spiritual people, yet we fail to see that our country is colonised spiritually. I agree with you Maya, we need to change those burial places

I don’t know where Wade Maya’s guide got his story about Cecil John Rhodes being loved by the locals and being honoured with a Matopos hills burial. Rhodes died on 26 March 1902 & was buried by white settlers without the approval of the locals, which the colonizers would never have needed of course (Zimbabwe had been a colony 8 years then and the locals were under total subjugation which explains the revolt & the hangings of 1896) - I guess in his head Zimbabwe was also named Rhodesia as a show of the locals’ love and respect for Rhodes
I never got the guide’s name but I challenge him to tell us where he got his history from - sometimes it’s ok to answer I don’t know to questions you don’t know the answer to.

Believe me the sanctions have worked and they have really stagnated development and stopped any kind kind of development to happen. This is a country that has been in an economic quagmire for the past 22 years. Imagine how well everything looked in 2000. How much has happened in other countries in the last 22 years? If the same had happened in Zim during that same perioed, imagine how much of a difference you would seeing from this video.

The USA wouldn't waste time dealing with individuals, America wants to make a statement and they do it on individuals but rather on a country's enabling institutions. Zimbabwe is a country that must be made an example of so that others do dare try to do what Zimbabwe did

Thank you for this WODE MAYA😭😭😭😭🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Im a Zulu/Tswana hybrid although I speak IsiZulu as a home language because of my Dad.. my grandmother, my fathers mother, is a Ndebele woman from Khezi a village near Bulawayo she married my Grandfather who was from Emadadeni near eMlazi township KZN, I’ve never been to Bulawayo before but my Dad and Mom have and it’s such an ironic way to start the video with the history of the Ndebele people and the city🔥 because I also always grew up thinking that my Grandmother and the rest of her family were Zulu people, i mean the way they looked even other people who didn’t know them here referred to them as Zulu people and the vibes they gave and the overall culture, up until I was like at the age of like 12 and 13 when she gave me a little history lesson of who I am and who she was and where she’s from and I was honestly mind-blown. I couldn’t actually believe it for a while and asked my parents who’ve visited there before and they confirmed it and my mother as a Tswana woman explained to me she’s met Batswana in Bulawayo Zimbabwe although they are a minority and having said that it really gave me a whole new perspective of life and being African as a whole and I’m really glad that she took me out of the bubble of ignorance at a very young age before I was even inside it .. I then began to educate myself and realised that the similarities between Zulu and Ndebele culture are so similar that they are literally the same thing on a Cultural basis but the only thing that makes a difference its the language it’s like German and Swiss-German basically a subversion of the same language and I’ve met a few Ndebele people here in Joburg as well they are really good people.. and now after seeing this video for real and seeing how beautiful the place and the people for the FIRST TIME EVER😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾it made me feel even more connected with the place, my spirit is really telling me to visit one day and I really hope they’ll accept me🙏🏾❤️… thanks for the video bruv its really helps people like me who have always been curious have a little closure🙏🏾 it really made my day!!🙏🏾🔥🔥 I am them, they are i and we are one Nguni people✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿🇿🇦/🇿🇼/🇸🇿…

I was born and bred in Harare but Bulawayo is my favorite city. It is a city well planned to cater for growth in population. There is so much space in Bulawayo hence fresh air and less congestion because of the wide roads. It is also the smartest city. No litter or pilling garbage. The people are also very fashion forward and they dress so well. In Bulawayo you can dress whichever way you want without anyone gawking at you unlike in Harare. It is a cosmopolitan city where other languages besides Ndebele, are spoken by a significant number. The women are very beautiful.
It’s because Bulawayo has always had a well run Council compared to the Harare Council.

Harare inetsvina, kunyepa here. Harare ine congestion and you know all open spaces that were left as breathing spaces are being filled up. Talk of Chiremba Park, New Cranborne etc. a new Church being built by Hubert Angel in an open space in Breaside. All road reserves have car sales. Just last week I observed some new stands in Glen View 1 towards a river. Bulawayo still maintains its open spaces. Recently there was talk of wanting to build in Mabelregn recreational park. Kana ndiwewo. At some point a part of Harare Gardens was about to be sold to Crown Plaza. Even the environment is not being protected, Long Chen was built on wetland. Saka ndiri kuziva zvandirikutaura usandisaize.
@CALL IT IT IS yes we were under colonial rule but it’s us black people who build those buildings as slaves. Just like the Americas was built by black Americans who were slaves. They might have designed the buildings and roads etc but we did build as their slaves and servants. They are rightly ours. The fact remains that Bulawayo city council runs that city better than Harare the Capital City.
I understand your feelings about the sacred hill in the Matopo. Yes we can say we need to remove those graves but their presence reminds us of a bitter history that we should not forget nor repeat. I like what president Mugabe said about this issue. He said these white colonisers paid nothing to our ancestors but now let them pay taxes in their graves when other white come to visit and pay to see these graves then they are paying back what they stole from us. So I say let the graves stay as a tourist attraction

i respectfully disagree, the sacred hill needs, have, to be restored to its original state. exhume all of those buries there. build a small burial ground at the foot of the hill and rebury them there. in the UK, there have been wild protests by blacks and whites who removed statutes of slave traders from their pedestals, toppled others into rivers- these have been recovered and placed in museums so why not Zim follow suit. its the right thing to do. relocate them to the foot of the hill where they belong, not the top! tourist will still pay to see the new burial ground at the foot oft the hill. then they get to pay again to get to see the beauty of the 'freed' top! ACT ZIM! ACT NOW!

Some South Africans are fighting with Zimbabweans because they lack understanding, but fortunately the leaders and the majority are correcting that. The truth is that the colonizers are the one who created the situation we are in and then United States add on by destroying the welfare of our people in Zimbabwe by imposing stupid economic sanctions against them. Other Zim Ndebele think they from the Zulus I don't no why? The late king Mahlangu is Mntungwa n Mzilikazi who was amaTebele king refused to be ruled by Shaka Zulu is also Mntungwa. Him Mzilikazi moved from eMbo land which is now part of KZN n Freestate. They the same as Ndebele in Mpumalanga n Limpopo
Someone lied and the truth needs to come out. The Ndebele people in Mpumalanga look like the Ndebele in Zim. The accent is also the same. I feel like the amaHlabezulu have more in common with amaNdebele awase Mzansi than they do amaZulu.
Morolong then how come Ndebeles from Zim share the similar surnames with Zulus and not Ndebeles from SA?
@@mxolisiduke7503 South Ndebele share surnames with Zim Ndebele ....they do. And remember king Shaka forced many tribes to under him besides that Nguni people share clan names, for example there are Ndlovu in Zim, Mpumalang (South Ndebele), kwaZulu, kwaXhosa even in Swazini.

Wow nice video with a well informed tour guide. People of Bulawayo are related to people of SA because of historical links.
Iam well versed in the Nguni kingdoms disintegration and migration. Mzilikazi left the present KZN and settled in Pretoria around 1820. Soshangane left for Mozambique, Zwangendaba went for Malawi and Zambia, Nyamazane the Swazi left for Zimbabwe.
The Mzilikazi was after by the boers Fottrekers under Andries Pretorius in 1830. He lost men men because the boers were armed with maxima mechine guns. Mzilikazi started to recruit young many from the around area to his army the SA Ndebele. The likes of Mahlangu, Mabena, Sibindi, Jiyana etc.
I would like to dispel the notions that Mzilikazi left SA running away from Shaka, how can he runaway from someone who have died long ago. The colonialist are pushing that wrong narrative because Mzilikazi was attacked by whites. Mzwangendaba conquered the present day Zimbabwean tribes only left after head that Mzilikazi was coming. Mzwangendaba fled to Malawi and Zambia. Then Nyamazane the Swazi queen was deafeted and submitted to Mzilikazi. Swazis are Dlamini, Luphahla, Lushozi, Maseko etc. Mzilikazi left Pretoria with a lot of tswana speaking people because he believed in numbers. Just like Shaka who managed to round up all Nguni states and formed the Zulu kingdom.
So people mustn't be surprised to see similarities of Zim people and SA people. Nguni who come with Mzilikazi are Khumalo, Gumede, Sithole, Ndlovu, Dlodlo, Dlomo, Mkhize, Mkhwanazi etc.

Actually, if u r not a nguni person (Zulu, Ndebele, Swati & Xhosa) you can't differentiate these 4 languages for first time of contact.
I am not nguni but if you speak slow I can understand 70+ % of all that you say. There is ALSO

Fantastic! The conceit of the European is truly impressive - buried three times! Would you believe it? The Zimbabwean history is really appreciated. Anyone who read Shaka Zulu by E.A.Ritter or saw the miniseries by the same name and didn't know what happened after Shaka's general migrated to what is now Zimbabwe would appreciate this. Especially the reference to "Bayete." In fact, I have a new curiosity to read up on Zimbabwean history. One thing, in what was clearly understood dialog, there tended to be a few patches where I could not understand as when Wode Maya faded out at a bit at 37:00. Keep up the great work!

It's so sad...Aside from some of the horrible history, Zimbabwe is incredibly beautiful, with incredibly beautiful people!

In the South you have a tribe named the Nguni the most famous are the Zulu. Our most famous King is Shaka he famous for uniting the Nguni tribes and foaming the Zulu Nation during this period different Nguni people from where expelled or forced to leave the zulu Kingdom some migrated to morden day Mozambique Zimbabwe Zambia Botswana Namiba all over Southern Africa. In Zimbabwe you had the Ndebele people who migrated north after our chief Mzilikazi clashed with Shaka. Hence we are the same just like I'm west Africa the Europeans did not take this into consideration when they split up Africa.
There was also people there before the Ndebele came Rozvi ,nambia, Kalanga,Tswana and even karanga and Tonga etc do not forget that as well in same area. I do agree with you if that split was done correctly Zimbabwe would have a coast but anyway here we are today having to fight same elements and life issues together. If Singapore can pull it with much more different people we can.This president hopes he continues with devolution so that more people decides their own future At Provincial down to municipality because what is culturally right In Mutare is not same in Plumtree ,Chinhoyi, Lupane or Bindura. as each district as its own issues and laws need to be made locally by people who face the consequences and benefit of those laws directly.

We stopped witnessing highrise structures being built in our city way back in 1993 after the 1992 drought left all our supply dams dry.Big companies relocated to other parts of the country.The growth has been in surburban as of recently.We believe many property investors will visit us again after we start drawing water from the Gwayi Shangani Lake next year.Zimbabwe is beautiful indeed and we can prosper again as Africans with the mentality of Wode Maya.Thanks Wode for showing everyone a beautiful Zimbabwe.You are a true African brother indeed.We love you as Zimbabweans and wish you a lot of success in whatever you do.Love from Bulawayo Zimbabwe 💗

@Rafael w you are the stupid one take your frustrations out on your governement not us those resources have lift out many black south africans out of poverty as we speak we have the most black dollar millionaires in africa in just a space of 28 years of Black leadership those same resources make sure that our less fortunate people have access to Grants such as the child grant that a child gets from the day they are born till they reach 18 years then we have Nsfas which funds our less fortunate people to further their studies in tertiary it also provides them with monthly allowances that cover rent,food,books,clothes and transportation those same resources also give our people who live with disabilities grants even children who were dumped ordont have parents get the foster grant if you are unemployed you get the unemployment grant if you reach the Age of 60 years you get the erlderly pension grant which supports our elders every month if it happens you get involved in a car collusion Road accident fund will pay you millions not to mention the people who go to other parts of south africa and build shacks the government dismatles those shacks and builds them dignified homes its not our fault your country wa ls going backward since independence blame yourself and your leaders take a look atour siblings Batswana from Botswana they have come a long way since independence they built their country their are not whining like you they got their independence 60 years ago too but they are not whining they have built such a beautiful country

Zimbabwe is truly remarkable. The will of its people was ultimately realised.
For how the city got its name. Let it be known that the capital 'isigodlo' of Shaka himself in KZN was and still is called kwaBulawayo. Mzilikazi simply replicated the same and made his own koBulawayo when he decided to settle in present day Zimbabwe. The myth and stories you'd be trying to be explain what the name means and trying to add context.
It is no coincidence that they are 2 Bulawayos one in KZN and the other in Zimbabwe and both centres of Kings
The sad thing about us Africans is that we go to other African countries and already have this mindset not to expect much from these places.
Most of the time our expectations when traveling to another African country is based on the little information we have in hand. We don't know more about each other.
Well Africans don't even know their own countries to start with.....

Zimbos and South Africans are not really fighting. There are thousands, if not millions of Zimbabweans in SA, and we lived in harmony for years. The problem comes from the criminals who flee Zim and commit crime in SA. As we speak, there are over 18 000 foreigners serving jail term in SA. The other thing is that some Zimbos accept job offers at lower wages than the legal minimum wage. So many South Africans feel that Zimbos take their jobs unfairly. Most of the Zimbo who are involved in crime and who allow employers to exploit them, came to SA illegaly. The issue I mentioned here causes commotion between South Africans and Zimbos, especially the lower class. In the middle and upper class there are no issues at all. The way I see it, it is an economic clash, it is a fight for survival, of which the two governments must work together to bring solutions, especially on the Zimbabwean side.

The issues you talk of only exist in the poor, marginalised, uneducated black South African communities. And South Africa's police minister is on record saying only 12% of prisoners in South Africa are foreign nationals. So the Zimbabweans are criminals myth begins to show its cracks. South Africans need to educate themselves and stop fighting for petrol attendant jobs.
