,I've had these boots for about a month now, before that I had smx plus, and it's Iike night and day, especially the sole as it better grips on the pegs of my gen 4 zx10r, which gives more confidence when hanging of the bike
Love all the small changes that A-Stars made to the boot! I'm looking to invest in a pair of full length boots to potentially hit the tracks with; so far it's Dainese, TCX and Alpinestars. I've owned a pair of Dainese Dyno shortie boots and found them to fit a bit narrow. Even after a couple of minutes of walking around it starts get uncomfortable. I'm currently looking at A-Stars Supertech-R/SMX Plus vs TCX R-S2/S-R1. Both brands look really well made so I'm stopped at a fork in the road.
+LueXiong10 Well the Alpinestars and TCX boots you're considering are wider than your Dainese boots, so you can at least feel confident that they'll fit better. -DrewZilla
Looks like they found ways to produce the boot cheaper, called them "Updates" and are charging more, lame. Replacing metal heel parts with plastic, why? To save a gram or two and make your $500 boot less durable. Another area of disappointment is the inside panel that makes contact with the bike has less texture and feels much cheaper in design than the previous model, perhaps why he never made a close comparison. Some areas were truly improved like the recessing of the buckle, adding reinforcement to the bottom of the zipper area, and especially the tow slider and toe area of the boot, I've nocked off and worn down my fair share of toe sliders on this boot, it's good to see that they addressed this problem.
I have puma 1000v3 boots bıt for street riding and for walking and for siting in a cafe after ride they are not so comfortable, what about alpinestars supertech r they are more comfortable for to use daily?
I've been researching boots until I'm blue in the face. Have some old Sidi Vertibra that I love but they need to be upgraded. Also have Daytona Roadstars, but they don't protect from rolling your ankle etc. What I'm looking for is the most protective boot for track and street. If SHITF on the road, I want to protect my feet and ankles every way possible. Don't want my ankles twisted, feet or toes crushed etc. Surely someone makes something like this aside from motocross type stuff. What am I missing??
If you don't need them to be waterproof, there's also non-waterproof and vented versions as well as the Course D1. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-torque-out-d1-boots *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-torque-d1-air-boots *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-course-out-d1-boots *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-course-d1-out-air-boots
Old supertech were far better. Old ones lasts 13 years and still in use. New ones lasts 2 years and have a hole above the heel. Seems the New heel scorch the leather part above when fit in. I'm so disapointed that I'm searching for Dainese, TCX or Forma.. At the cost of those 2 years not enough..😮
Protection is protection, whether on the track or on the street. If you want the protection, you can certainly use them for everyday sport riding. Plus, if you do the occasional track day, you'll already have great boots. -DrewZilla
The BMW DoubleR Boots are BMW-branded Dainese Axial Pro Boots (what Valentino Rossi wears). The Alpinestars Supertech-R Boots are equally as good and Moto-GP quality (Marquez and Lorenzo wear the Supertech-R). They both offer hinged ankle protection against impacts as well as toe sliders. The DoubleR Boots are designed to be used with Dainese (or BMW-branded Dainese) race suits, while the Supertech-R Boots can be used with most any race suit. -DrewZilla
How substantial is the toe protection on this boot? Is it reinforced on the outer carcass and then has some light protection on the inner bootie? Or is there only light reinforcement on the toe area on the inner bootie? I highsided recently on my cbr wearing axial pro in's and the bike landed on my left foot. No broken bones/twisted ankle however my big toe got severely jammed and my foot is still swollen and i need a foot brace to walk around comfortably. Was curious to see if these boots would perhaps protect my feet to an even higher extent if i was to get in a similar accident. Thanks :)
The toe protection is similar to the Axial Pro In Boots. There is hard but flexible toe reinforcement built into the outer boot. The inner bootie does not have any hard protection at the toe. Race boots need to balance impact and flex protection while also giving a slim profile and good feel for shifting, so you won't have super-armored toes on road-race boots. -DrewZilla
Quick question? Is the sole replaceable or will there be no need? I spent about $180 on a short ankle spada boot but the sole wore through in under 3 months -_- i have since bought the sidi streetburners but also wanted to buy some of these for my new zx6r. Will the sole be a problem?
+kenno99999 It all depends on how rough your footpegs are and how you ride. If the soles do wear through, you can send the boots to Alpinestars (in California) to have new soles put on. -DrewZilla
It was my spada x-streets where the sole went through quick. The problem is I do alot of walking in bike boots as i normally use short ankle I use them for work and in 3 month they were unusable. Thanks the response. Love revzilla even if I'm in the UK ^^
@revzilla I'm looking for some new street boots for my sport bike, I tore my Achilles a while back so I'm looking at these or Smx plus care to make any suggestions ?
For the most protection, I do recommend the Supertech-R Boots. However, the SMX Plus Boots offer almost as much protection, and if your size is available, we have some on closeout for a lot less than the Supertech-R Boots. If you want the best, it's hard to beat the Supertechs, but if you want a good deal, go with the SMX Plus Boots. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-supertech-r-boots *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-smx-plus-boots-closeout

+Ankit Shah The Supertech-R Boots are race-level boots, just like the Sidi Vortice and Mag-1. The Supertech-R Boots are a little bulkier but have a bit more internal reinforcement compared to the Sidi Mag-1. -DrewZilla
+RevZilla That would mean it offers the same level of protection as the Sidi Vortice and is almost the same in terms of bulkiness? Thanks for the info!!
+megazzeth Yes, the Vortice and Supertech-R offer the most protection, but the Mag-1 gives up just a little bit of protection for better feel and less bulk. -DrewZilla
I checked out a pair in our showroom, and they do not list any kind of date code on the inside of the boot. I recommend contacting Alpinestars directly. They should be able to cross-reference the serial number with production information. You can reach them at 1(800)438-2577. -TeamZilla AJ
Hi Team Revzilla - I have pretty think calves and would like to know it these boots have enough stretch to fit me. To give some context Alpinestars SMX 6 and SIDI MAG1-Air do not fit my calves after putting on my leathers (Alpinestars GP-Pro). My feet are size 42 Eu and my suit 50 EU. Thanks!
These Supertech-R Boots are good for those with large/thick calves, so there is a good chance they can work for you. Also consider the Sidi ST Boots. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-supertech-r-boots *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sidi-st-boots *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sidi-st-air-boots

this is a top notch poser boot . the more you make your ankle and foot stiff , the more forces will be directed to your knee . i rather have a broken ankle then my knee messed up . and the guy is now telling us how terrible the 2015 model is , in 12 months he will do the same to the 16 model .
+wasn't me It's not quite a direct transfer of forces like you're making things out to be. It's not "broken ankle vs. messed up knee." Also, by your rationale, MX boots are contributing to more leg damage than they're helping avoid. Unless you can come up with some kind of actual data to support your claim, I'm more willing to think you're talking out your butt. Every professional racing series I can think of has the ENTIRE field in pretty stiff boots. Why do you think this would be the case if they did nothing but increase the likelihood of knee damage which, as you say, can be a more complicated injury?
+opmike343 well mike you can think what you want , i have my opinion . i did dirttrackracing and still do trackday racing , and my opinion is that you will be safer wearing these when your on the track but not on the road . on the road you deal with obsticles . on the track you either slide or tumble and thats pretty safe with good gear . in dirtbike accidents you deal with sand so what your stating bout those boots is not an issue . 15 years ago i remember the boots were less protective and a brand named daytona came with this huge bulletproof tank of a boot . a lot of racers used them and a motormagazine came up with this theorie i remember . your knee can be fucked up in many permanent ways , while your ankle only can brak and or bands breaking
+wasn't me hey bro I'm just reading this know and I completely agree with you. I'm a casual rider that will probably go to the track 1 or two times a year. I was thinking about the smx 6. What are your recommendations. Max I wanna spend is 300

MrPninja what size
wendell watkins 45 euro
I wish they would stop putting shift panels on the right boot. I think the asymmetrical look would be cool.
They can't do that. If a person lose the left leg in an accident, put the shift on the right, and the back brake on left hand.
There are right shift bikes, not much race replicas, but they exist
Useless if you’re racing classic bikes with right foot gear changes :)
Like always Anthony, amazing review!!
Top notch grade A untouchable.
