The slip tube on the chimney is possibly an insulator for where the stovepipe goes through the tent.
Cook the fries twice. Once until they're just about done, take them out to cool and pop them back in to crisp up.
Keep the already cooked food warm by putting it under the stove.

That's exactly what I just came to comment. And I'm not sure deep frying in a synthetic tent is the smartest thing to do. Or putting the extra pc of ti tubing on the bottom, that in pretty sure is supposed to double wall the chimney where it goes through the tent to keep Temps down against the fabric. Not sure I don't have the instructions to not read like he did

Joe, Double fry for the best results on French Fries. Fry them until they are about how you had them at time stamp 36:15, remove from oil (on a plate or something) and allow to sit for about two minutes. Then return to oil and fry until golden and crispy. This method also works well for buffalo wings. Love the videos and wish I could camp the cool spots like you do. Thanks for the entertainment!

You seem to know what you are doing and that handy axe repair was very educational. You know what to take and what you are doing. You would have to to survive the cold out there. The burger in the can was interesting. Never heard of that before or canned gravy. A very interesting video. A great video.

  • @threejeeps4419
    @threejeeps4419 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Great video! thanks for making it. Some guidance about assembling the stove: Attach guy wires to the metal clips on the spark arrestor, stake the guy wires in the ground. The chimney really needs to be secured. The extra piece of metal is a heat shield that is positioned on the chimney where it exits the roof of the tent. It acts as a double wall with an air gap in between. Keeps the tent from melting/burning. Yea, wrestling to make the chimney is a real joy. BTW, get an electronic CO2 monitor and hang it in the tent - just in case....happy trails!

The Winnerwell Fastfold Ti has been on my list for years now, I should probably get on that.
From my research on tent stoves with rollup titanium chimneys, you have to be super careful making it into a chimney the first time. It helps to get someone to help you roll it up the long way, and do it where you have a large, flat, solid area to work in.
When you do the first burn in, the heat causes the material to take a 'set'. After that when you set it up it should be far less likely to crinkle up like that, and should be easier to roll the long way into the chimney shape because that's the set it took.
Rolling it up to pack away will be easier too, because you only have to deal with 1ft instead of 7ft of length.
Hope that helps you or someone else down the road. Thanks for the vid! 🍻

I'm wondering if that outer piece of smoke pipe, that you installed at the stove end, shouldn't go through at the top. That way it would gave some separation between smoke pipe and the canvas, as well as give that flap the shield to hit if the wind blows it back down. Maybe that's what those clips on the spark arrester are for.

Hell ya Joe! Dude that looked like a great time man that is a killer setup I like that the tent looks like a pretty well made tent and the stove looked like it preformed outstandingly. The snow was just the icing on the cake great video brother I cant wait for some more winter camping videos.

Hey,Joe ! Do you think that extra tube piece is to help protect the tent from heat at the point it passes thru the stove jack ? Great lookin Lil winter home ,eh? Thank you for another great adventure and for taking us along!

My thought as well. I think it is the de facto double-wall for the tent interface

    • @r.c.g.811

That tent has a proper stove jack and doesn’t need the double wall for the pipe.

Your smoke pipe came out the way I thought it would. First time rolling up that type of pipe you should use pool noodles as a form. The other thing is do the initial burn outdoors.
Looking forward to seeing how the tent sheds snow. But in a hot tent that might not be an issue.

Interesting to me, a former Nordic Ski Patroller and US Army ROTC winter survival instructor. I like the idea of a lightweight hot tent and light stove & pipe for very cold weather. I'd have taken my backcountry skis. boots and poles "just in case" B/C snowshoes are way too much work. Andmy folding saw but not an axe (too heavy).

  • @ribbitism

those chimneys, if you notice the short side rolled up way it came, are pre curved and they want to go into the long tube shape if you open it up. the easiest and best way is to 'throw' the roll out quickly into space while holding the first edge, it will pop itself into shape and you can start sliding the rings on to keep it closed at size. all those little dents and dings made from probably trying to hold it open as you unrolled, are causing it to fight the shape you want.

In German speaking areas, they make a pancake dish like that called Kaiserschmarrn. They start with a normal pancake, scramble it, caramelize the bits, and serve it drenched in powered sugar. Oddly enough they serve it with applesauce which is essentially used as a dip. Wild stuff, but it's so good. They serve it on the ski hills over in Austria/Switzerland.

When I "whip" a grip on a handle, or as you made here, an overstrike segment on an 🪓 or hatchet, I follow it up with a coat of wood hardener from the local hardware store. Once it dries, it gives a nice texture to grip and hardens the parachord to protect the handle.

All I can say, is you are one ambitious man. I love my chainsaw, and when I camp, it is always my constant companion. I can cut enough wood in 20 or 30 minutes to last me 3 or more days. Also, whipping the axe handle, I normally use 12 gauge fence wire, but cord seems to work for you too. I'm older than dirt now, so I don't do a lot of winter camping, but I still love doing it when I can. I have never tried hot tenting, but it looks pretty nice.

I hope you are always this lighthearted!

You could use a longer sled for a bed. Or as something to keep your equiptment off the ground in the tent. That way you dont lose your sled, and you can stay off the ground and stay warmer and drier.
