    I have always had combination acne prone skin.on Jan this year I had severe breakout which made me start tretinoin which almost took 4-5 months to subside the purging and finally i am now left with PIH with on and off one or two breakouts which lasts for shorter duration than before. During the purging time I also started with azeliac acid in serum formulation after niacinamide in the morning routine and still continuing with tretinoin every third night and in between I also use salicylic acid 2%from paula’s choice and alpha arbutin along with aha bha pha chemical peel once weekly. I am already started to feel confident again and the best advice is to be patient, follow skincare routine with discipline and let the drugs do it’s wonders. Happy Skin to everyone 😊

      @@Jessca.451 Hello! Did you use it for five days straight? Maybe you went in too quickly. My acne isn't severe, and my derm said to apply it twice a week, in the morning. Jasmine Jas BP is very very drying hence the itching... I've been an acne suffer for 2 decades and used 90% of what's on the market, including heavy duty Accutane twice but whenever I put anything with BP in it I start to flake like a snake. The only way for me is to use it every other day and keep off any other active ingredient. Otherwise I'll be scratching like mad!

Or should I only "spot treat" (u may have answered this in ur vid but think u we're reffering to AA?) I've heard so many conflicting answers fm other derm channels, but u seem to specialize in this area! Love your channel btw!!

    Hi Dr. Sam,
    I’m currently using all of your products exclusively and have noticed once I cut out any extra products from different lines that my skin has improved dramatically. The only things I use outside of your line is makeup. The Gossamer Tinted is used as my “Beginner” base but I still need extra coverage. Any thoughts on dipping into a makeup line geared for acne prone sensitive skin? That would be AWESOME!

      How do you use azelaic acid? Full face or on the spots only?

    • @melonmelon7427
      @melonmelon7427 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nishat Ara all active ingredients should be used on the full face. It is actually contraindicated to spot treat using actives. Acne begins as a micro comedone ( something deep inside the skin that you cant see or feel). It takes 2+ months for the micro comedones to become a spot that you can see or feel coming. This is why is best to apply to the entire face as you simply don't know where the micro comedone (aka the future spot) may be on your face. By the time you see it to spot treat it, is late. You need to 'attack' it in its micro phase.

    • @melonmelon7427
      @melonmelon7427 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you consider Tretinoin? I've actually been on it then switched to Epiduo and I much prefer the result of Epiduo. Just a word of advice, if you do decide to go on Tret, start at the lowest strength and if you are oily definitely avoid the cream Tretinoin and get the gel. But be aware, Tret is much much harsher than Epiduo. If you get results from Epiduo I would keep going. No point reinventing the wheel. What strength are you on?There are 2 strengths with Epiduo.

    I've learnt a lot from this, thank you :) Just wondering how to treat my daughter's acne, she is nearly 10, and has been getting spots on her chin and around her nose. She also has eczema and very sensitive skin. She was recently on antibiotics and antiviral medicines because of a strong breakout. At the moment she has one stubborn red scar on her chin. I use azeleic acid and Niacinamide myself, which work great for me, but I know this is not for my daughter's age. At what age are children fine with these? And could you possibly make a similar video to today's, just orientated towards the young age? Thank you

    • @melonmelon7427
      @melonmelon7427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I remember another famous dermatologist addressing age and active ingredients and she stated there is really no age limit. If there is a skin condition there, you should aim to treat it. It's more healthy skin vs unhealthy skin rather than young skin vs old skin. You may find the psychological damage can be far greater than the risk of using an active ingredient. I wouldn't go in with a retinoid but using a salicylic acid face wash and a 10% azelaic acid seems reasonable. I'm an adult now but have been using acne products since age 11 when I started to get acne. Initially it was prescribed by dermatologist and eventually just repurchased by my mum for me. Consider a lower concentration and maybe start by using every other day and see what happens.

    • @madgesticm
      @madgesticm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melonmelon7427 thank you so much for this. I am glad to hear that it's fine to use some of the actives, with caution of course and lower concentration. I hope Niacinamide is a possibility, too?

    • @melonmelon7427
      @melonmelon7427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@madgesticm niacinamide is good but when it comes to acne, products with benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are more effective. Niacinamide is good to provide moisture which is important when using active ingredients as these can be drying. The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% is used by my friend’s daughter who is around 11-12 and has cleared up her acne very nice. Cerave face wash with salicylic acid is quite good too. Maybe she can use that once a day and apply Azelaic acid 10 % every other day then increase to daily if she tolerates it.

    so i have a question: My skin looks wet when I apply SPF. Is it still protecting me?
    I use two serums ( niacinamide serum from the inkey list and neoglucosamine serum from neutrogena) and Cerave Cream.
    I put a lot of the inkey list serum and wait 10 mins before applying the next serum. and after that, I apply my cerave cream and wait 30 minutes before putting on my spf, which is bioderma photoderm spot spf50, which is a water resistant sunscreen and is very moisturizing.
    my skin looks very dewy and wet and i don't care about it as soon as i'm getting the protection.
